20090255006 | Transgenic Zebrafish - Transgenic zebrafish containing sqt genomic sequences driving expression of a reporter gene are provided. This line faithfully reproduces the spatiotemporal expression pattern of endogenous sqt, and at the late blastula stage is expressed in the YSL as well as in the blastomeres. The data show that expression in embryonic and extra-embryonic tissues is controlled by separable regulatory elements, including at least two elements that mediate the response to Nodal signals in different cell types. An element upstream of the transcription start site mediates the response to Nodal signaling specifically in the EVL cells. By contrast, a conserved Nodal response element (NRE) in the first introns is required for transgene expression in the blastomeres. The data show that expression of the transgene in the blastomeres depends on Nodal signaling activity. Furthermore, expression of sqt and cyc in the blastomeres depends upon Nodal signals from the YSL. These experiments suggest that Nodal signals in the YSL act to induce nodal-related gene expression in the embryo margin by activating the Nodal autoregulatory pathway. Targeted depletion of Nodal signals from the YSL results in embryos lacking endoderm and head mesoderm, similar to the defects observed in mice lacking Nodal function in the visceral endoderm. Thus, the data provides strong genetic evidence for the functional conservation between the YSL and the visceral endoderm. This suggests a common evolutionary origin for teleost and mammalian extra-embryonic tissues, despite their profound morphological differences. | 10-08-2009 |

20100127065 | Authenticating a document with a magnetic stripe - Methods, systems, and apparatus for efficiently authenticating a document (e.g. a credit card) having a magnetic stripe are provided. The magnetic field at different points of the magnetic stripe are measured, e.g., by a checkout scanner to create a magnetic signature. Digital samples of the measurements may be transformed into coefficients of continuous basis functions, e.g., a Fourier transform. These coefficients are then compared to reference values (e.g. corresponding coefficients) to produce a measure of the authenticity of the document. The number of coefficients used can advantageously be smaller than the number of digital samples without compromising accuracy, thus using less bandwidth between a scanner and an authentication entity. | 05-27-2010 |
20100127071 | VERIFYING CARDHOLDER IDENTITY USING SIGNATURE OF THE CARD - Methods, systems, and apparatus for verifying the identity of a cardholder are provided. A digital representation of a magnetic characteristic of a magnetic stripe of the card is stored on a portable electronic device of the cardholder. During a transaction, the digital signature is then transmitted so that it can be compared with a reference signature. The identity may be verified, and a response sent to a party requesting the verification, e.g., during a transaction between the requesting party and the verified party. | 05-27-2010 |
20100127072 | AUTHENTICATION OF DOCUMENTS HAVING MAGNETIC STRIPE - Methods, systems, and apparatus for efficiently authenticating a document (e.g. a credit card) having a magnetic stripe are provided.
20100127079 | UPDATING OF REFERENCE MAGNETIC SIGNATURE FOR AUTHENTICATING A DOCUMENT WITH A MAGNETIC STRIPE - Methods, systems, and apparatus for accurately authenticating a document (e.g. a credit card) having a magnetic stripe are provided. The magnetic field at different points of the magnetic stripe are measured, e.g., by a checkout scanner to create a magnetic signature. Digital samples of the measurements may be used to create a representation of the magnetic signature. The representation can then be compared to reference values to produce a measure of the authenticity of the document. The reference values are updated over time to reflect changes in the magnetic stripe of the authentic document, as may occur due to physical deterioration. For example, reference values may be optimized based on recent measurements of the authenticated document to provide a more accurate determination of authenticity for future measurements. | 05-27-2010 |

20130031773 | SPINDLE MOTOR, DISK DRIVE APPARATUS, AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING SPINDLE MOTOR - In a method of manufacturing a spindle motor, a sheet preferably made of a thermoplastic resin is closely adhered to an upper surface of a base portion of a spindle motor such that the sheet covers a base hole of the base portion. Next, heat is applied to a region of the sheet which coincides with the base hole to define a sheet hole continuous with the base hole. Thereafter, a coil is arranged over the base portion, and a conducting wire defining the coil is extended through the sheet hole and the base hole to be drawn downwardly out of the base portion. The sheet hole is thus defined after the sheet is closely adhered to the base portion. In addition, the sheet hole is defined by melting the resin through application of the heat. It is therefore easy to arrange the sheet and define the sheet hole. | 02-07-2013 |

20100126639 | MAGNESIUM-CONTAINED HIGH-SILICON ALUMINUM ALLOYS STRUCTURAL MATERIALS AND MANUFACTURE METHOD THEREOF - The magnesium-contained high-silicon aluminum alloys for use as structural materials, including profiles, bars, sheets, and forgings, are manufactured by a process including the steps of: casting an alloy ingot by direct chill casting, preheating the ingot to disperse eutectic Si phase particles, and thermal-plastic processing and heat-treating to obtain the product with a final shape and a modified microstructure. The aluminum alloys contain 0.2˜2.0 wt % of Mg and 8˜18 wt % of Si, and have homogeneous and fine microstructure, wherein the aluminum matrix is equiaxed with an average grain size less than 6 μm, and the silicon and second phase particles are dispersed with an average size less than 5 μm. Without adding any modifiers, they are low-costly produced by incorporating the direct chill casting with thermal-plastic processing and heat treatment, which give rise to good plasticity and relatively high strength. | 05-27-2010 |

20140379473 | SPONSORED ONLINE CONTENT MANAGEMENT USING QUERY CLUSTERS - Aspects of the subject disclosure are directed towards managing sponsored online content based upon advertiser behavior. Defining mini-markets to represent such advertiser behavior may be accomplished by clustering queries that generate revenue from one or more campaigns. Query revenue data between queries and a set of campaigns may be used to determine such mini-markets. To illustrate, a query whose highest revenue is attributed to a campaign may be selected for that campaign's mini-market. When that query is entered as a search term, the campaign's mini-market helps allocate space for advertisements. | 12-25-2014 |
