20090070123 | FINANCIAL DECISION AID FOR 4-D NAVIGATION - A method for facilitating a financial decision for 4-dimensional navigation of a vehicle includes receiving navigation information for the vehicle. A current location of the vehicle is determined. Data associated with at least one predetermined location of a plurality of predetermined locations is retrieved. A range of costs for said vehicle, representative of the at least one predetermined arrival time for the at least one predetermined location, is estimated. The range of costs is associated with a minimum value of the navigational information and a maximum value of the navigational information. An indicator representative of at least one cost of the range of costs is displayed. | 03-12-2009 |
20090265049 | AIRCRAFT SYSTEM EMISSIONS AND NOISE ESTIMATION MECHANISM - A method for generating emissions estimations of an aircraft is provided. A plurality of aircraft parameters is gathered. A first parameter of the plurality of aircraft parameters is selected for a first model. The first model mathematically contributes to the formulation of a first emissions estimation. The first model is considered with a plurality of additional models in view of the plurality of aircraft parameters to obtain the first emissions estimation. The first emissions estimation is a composite representation of the first model and the plurality of additional models in view of the plurality of aircraft parameters. | 10-22-2009 |
20100030467 | SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PERFORMING 4-DIMENSIONAL NAVIGATION - A system and method are disclosed for computing a vehicle's motion in four dimensions (e.g., three spatial dimensions and time) and reliably predicting the vehicle's arrival time at a predetermined location, by providing a graphical display to an operator of the vehicle's progress that enables the operator to adjust the vehicle's movement and achieve the desired arrival time. Specifically, a system and method are disclosed for computing the movement of an aircraft in four dimensions, predicting its arrival time at a predetermined waypoint, and displaying (in a highly intuitive format) the aircraft's progress in achieving that desired arrival time. The pilot can then adjust the movement (e.g., speed) of the aircraft in accordance with the parameter(s) displayed, in order to achieve the desired arrival time. Thus, for example, numerous aircraft could be scheduled to arrive at a specific final approach waypoint at a predetermined rate (e.g., one aircraft per minute), which would enable the traffic controllers to optimize runway traffic without having to stack the aircraft in holding patterns and thereby waste fuel. Notably, although an example of an aircraft navigation and control system and method is disclosed, the system and method can be implemented for any type of vehicle (e.g., aircraft, spacecraft, ship, submarine, bus, train, automobile, etc.) whose operator desires to reach a particular location at a specified time. | 02-04-2010 |

20100145599 | SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DISPLAYING PROTECTED AIRSPACE ASSOCIATED WITH A PROJECTED TRAJECTORY OF AIRCRAFT IN A CONFIDENCE DISPLAY - A display system and method for a display, in real-time, of a confidence display, displaying the protected airspace associated with a projected trajectory of a first aircraft and the protected airspace associated with a projected trajectory of at least one additional aircraft during a phase of flight. The system processes data representative of a phase of aircraft flight of a first aircraft and at least one additional aircraft and determines the protected airspace associated with a projected trajectory of each aircraft based at least in part on the processed data. An image representative of the determined protected airspace of each aircraft is displayed on the display system as a confidence display. | 06-10-2010 |
20100191467 | SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR GENERATING OBSTACLE POSITION INDICATOR ON AIRCRAFT DISPLAY DEVICE - A flight display system is provided for deployment on a host aircraft including at least one obstacle-tracking data source. In one embodiment, the flight display system includes a display device and a controller. The controller is configured to be coupled to the obstacle-tracking data source and to receive data therefrom indicating the current position of a navigational obstacle. The controller is operably coupled to the display device and is configured to generate thereon an obstacle position indicator (OPI) graphic indicating the current position of the navigational obstacle relative to the current field of view of the display device. | 07-29-2010 |
20110106447 | SYSTEM FOR PROVIDING A PILOT OF AN AIRCRAFT WITH A VISUAL DEPICTION OF A TERRAIN - A system for providing a pilot with a visual depiction of a terrain includes, but is not limited to, a data storage unit for storing terrain data, a position determination unit for determining a position of an aircraft, a near to eye display unit worn by the pilot for displaying visual images and for determining a view direction of the pilot. A processing unit is communicatively connected to the data storage unit, to the position determination unit and to the near to eye display unit. The processing unit controls the near to eye display unit to display a three dimensional representation of a viewed terrain region that includes a depiction of the terrain overlaying the terrain within the viewed terrain region and is graphically differentiated to correspond with an altitude of the terrain within the viewed terrain region. The depiction of the terrain is at least partially transparent. | 05-05-2011 |
20110193725 | METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR DISPLAYING A SYMBOL REPRESENTATIVE OF AN AIRCRAFT IN FLIGHT - Methods and systems are provided for displaying a symbol that is representative of an aircraft in flight. The method includes, but is not limited to, the steps of detecting an attitude of the aircraft and a view direction of an operator of the aircraft, and displaying with a near-to-eye display unit a three-dimensional symbol in an exocentric manner. The three-dimensional symbol is displayed to appear to be oriented in a manner that is representative of the attitude of the aircraft. The three-dimensional symbol is further displayed to rotate in a manner that corresponds with the view direction. | 08-11-2011 |
