20090279652 | Synchronizing Clocks Across a Communication Link - Apparatus, system and method for synchronizing one or more clocks across a communication link. A slave clock may be synchronized to a master clock by means of a synchronization signal sent from the master to the slave clock side of the link. The synchronization signal may be an expected signal pattern sent at intervals expected by the slave side. The slave clock may correlate received signals with a representation of the expected synchronization signal to produce a correlation sample sequence at a first sample rate which is related as n times the slave clock rate. The synchronization signal receipt time indicated by the correlation sample sequence may be refined by interpolating the correlation sample sequence around a best correlation sample to locate a best interpolation at an interpolation resolution smaller than the sample resolution. The best interpolation may in turn be further refined by estimating between interpolator outputs adjacent to the best interpolation output. The synchronization signal receipt time thus determined is compared to the expected time based upon the slave clock, which is adjusted until the times match. After initialization, all slave clock errors are preferably accumulated to prevent long-term slip between the slave and master clocks. Formerly independent master and slave clocks synchronized across the communication link constitute a noncommon clock which may be compared on each side of the link to secondary independent clocks, and the secondary independent clocks may then be separately synchronized by adjusting one to have the same difference from its local noncommon clock as the secondary clock on the other side of the link has from its local noncommon clock. | 11-12-2009 |

20130102531 | FUNCTIONAL VASCULARIZATION WITH BIOCOMPATIBLE POLYSACCHARIDE-BASED HYDROGELS - Slow vascularization of functional blood limits the transplantation of tissue constructs and the recovery of ischemic and wounded tissues. Blood vessel ingrowth into polysaccharide-based hydrogel scaffolds remains a challenge. A synergistic effect of multiple angiogenic GFs was established; the co-encapsulation of VEGF plus other growth factors induced more and larger blood vessels than any individual GF, while the combination of all GFs dramatically increased the size and number of newly formed functional vessels. Rapid, efficient, and functional neovascularization may be achieved. | 04-25-2013 |
20140030236 | DERIVATION AND MATURATION OF SYNTHETIC AND CONTRACTILE VASCULAR SMOOTH MUSCLE CELLS FROM HUMAN PLURIPOTENT STEM CELLS - Embryonic vascular smooth muscle cells (vSMCs) have a synthetic phenotype (Syn-vSMC), but in adults, they commit to the mature contractile phenotype (Con-vSMC). Con-vSMCs differ from Syn-vSMC derivatives in condensed morphology, prominent filamentous cytoskeleton proteins, elastin production and assembly elastin, low proliferation, numerous active caveolae, enlarged endoplasmic reticulum, ample stress fibers and bundles, as well as high contractility. The human pluripotent stem cell-derivatives can differentiate into a desired phenotype. Differentiation can be controlled by appropriate concentrations of relevant factors. Growth in high serum with platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB) and transforming growth factor-β1 induces the Syn-SMC phenotype with increased extracellular matrix protein expression and reduced expression of contractile proteins. Serum starvation and PDGF-BB deprivation causes maturation towards the Con-vSMC phenotype. When transplanted subcutaneously into nude mice, the human Con-vSMCs aligned next to the host's growing functional vasculature, with occasional circumferential wrapping and vascular tube narrowing. | 01-30-2014 |
20140273220 | Self-Organized Vascular Networks from Human Pluripotent Stem Cells in a Synthetic Matrix - A bicellular vascular population derived from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) undergoes morphogenesis and assembly in a synthetic hydrogel. It is shown that hPSCs can be induced to co-differentiate into early vascular cells (EVCs) in a clinically-relevant strategy dependent upon Notch activation. These EVCs mature into ECs and pericytes, and self-organize to form vascular networks in an engineered matrix. Upon in vivo implantation, multicellular human vascular networks are functionally perfused. Thus, a derived bicellular population is exploited for its intrinsic self-assembly capability to create functional microvasculature in a deliverable matrix. | 09-18-2014 |
20150017724 | METHOD FOR GUIDING THE DERIVATION OF ENDOTHELIAL CELLS FROM HUMAN PLURIPOTENT STEM CELLS EMPLOYING TWO-DIMENSIONAL, FEEDER-FREE DIFFERENTIATION - This invention relates, e.g., to a method for differentiating mammalian (e.g., human) pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) into endothelial cells (ECs) in vitro, by plating a single-cell suspension of PSCs onto a suitable surface such as type IV collagen and culturing the cells with VEGF after which ECs can be harvested. A preferred embodiment of the method first cultures the cells without VEGF and then sequentially cultures the cells with VEGF. Differentiation can be enhanced by adding an inhibitor of transforming growth factor β to the culturing with VEGF. | 01-15-2015 |

20110218794 | CONCRETIZATION OF ABSTRACTED TRACES - An abstract trace may be defined based on a coverage goal. An execution of a System Under Test (SUT) is guided in accordance with the coverage goal. Non-deterministic decision, which correlates to receiving a stimulus to the SUT, is decided based on a probability function. After one or more executions, the probability function is modified based on a measurement of similarity between the abstract trace and each of the one or more executions. The modification of the probability function may be performed using on Cross-Entropy method. The modification is performed in order to cause determination of non-deterministic decisions in executions to better correlate with the abstract trace. In some exemplary embodiments, a determination whether the abstract trace is reachable is determined based on a rate of convergence of the executions to the abstract trace. | 09-08-2011 |

20100060736 | Vehicle Interior Classification System And Method - A vehicle interior classification system and method in accordance with the present invention determines a classification relating to the interior of the vehicle, such as the occupancy status of a vehicle seat or the state of alertness of a vehicle driver, from one or more images of an appropriate portion of the interior of the vehicle acquired with an image capture device. The acquired images are preferably processed to limit the dynamic range of the images to obtain a resultant image which can comprise one or more regions of interest which are less than the total field of view of the image capture device. The resultant images are processed to extract information about features in the image and, in one embodiment, this processing is achieved with a two-dimensional complex discrete wavelet transform which produces a set of coefficients corresponding to the presence and/or location of the features in the resultant image. The set of coefficients produced with such a transform is potentially quite large and can be reduced, through described techniques, to a subset of the total number of coefficients, the members of the subset being selected for their ability to discriminate between the classifications defined for the system. By selecting a subset of the possible coefficients, computational requirements are reduced, as are hardware requirements in the system, such as memory. The selected set of coefficients (whether comprising all of the coefficients or a subset thereof) are provided to a classifier which processes the coefficients with a set of calibration vectors, that were determined when the system was calibrated, to determine the most probable classification for the portion of the vehicle interior. | 03-11-2010 |

For each classification, a classification vector of at least one appropriate weight is stored that corresponds to the determined subset of coefficients. | 03-06-2014 |
