A cam is carried in stationary position adjacent to the carrier surrounding the first axis, and a cam follower is operatively coupled to the arm in engagement with the cam for rotating the arm and the mold charge pick-up cup around the second axis as the carrier is rotated around the first axis. The second axis of rotation of the arm preferably is perpendicular to the first axis of rotation of the carrier, and the cam and follower preferably are such that the mold charge pick-up cup is oriented horizontally to receive a mold charge and oriented vertically to deposit the mold charge in the mold of the compression molding machine. A control valve preferably is carried for selective application of vacuum and air under pressure through a passage in the arm to the mold charge pick-up cup to assist in pick-up, transport and deposit of the mold charge into the mold. | 08-06-2009 |

20090326149 | BRANCHED POLYCARBONATES AND PROCESSES FOR PRODUCING THE SAME - Methods for making a branched polycarbonate are disclosed. An interfacial mixture comprising water, a substantially water-immiscible organic solvent, a dihydroxy compound, a polyhydric branching agent, an endcapping agent, a catalyst, and a base is formed. The base and the branching agent are dissolved in the mixture before the dihydroxy compound is added, and the interfacial mixture has a basic pH. The mixture is reacted by adding a carbonate precursor to the mixture while maintaining the pH between about 8 and about 10 to form the branched polycarbonate. The resulting branched polycarbonates may contain more than 1.5 mole % of the THPE; have residual chloride content of 20 ppm or less; and a weight average molecular weight of about 55,000 or less. They may also be highly transparent. | 12-31-2009 |
20090326183 | BRANCHED POLYCARBONATE-POLYSILOXANE COPOLYMERS AND PROCESSES FOR PRODUCING THE SAME - Methods for making a branched polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer are provided. An interfacial mixture comprising water, an organic solvent, a polyhydric branching agent, a non-siloxane-containing dihydroxy compound, an endcapping agent, a phase transfer catalyst, and a base is formed. The base and the branching agent are dissolved in the mixture before the non-siloxane-containing dihydroxy compound is added and the interfacial mixture has a basic pH. A first carbonate precursor is added to the interfacial mixture while maintaining the pH at from about 3 to about 9 to form a branched polycarbonate mixture. Next, the pH is increased to from about 8 to about 13 and a siloxane oligomer is added to the branched polycarbonate mixture. The branched polycarbonate mixture is then reacted to form the branched polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer. The resulting branched copolymer contains 20 ppm or less of residual chloride, is transparent, has improved flow properties, and has good flame retardance at thin wall thicknesses. | 12-31-2009 |

20120211957 | Triple Axle With Rubber Torsion Mechanism - A preferred embodiment of the present invention includes a triple torsion axle system and kit with various features to help reduce or prevent damage that otherwise may occur with large loads. For example, each axle assembly includes larger diameter caps on the ends of each torsion bar to prevent the bar from pulling out of its outer tube during high side loads. In another example, the outer end of the torsion bar has a rounded surface that is fixed to a swing arm so as to better equalize the stress around the weld joint. Additionally, the triple torsion axle is configured such that when the vehicle is unloaded, the middle axle assembly supports more weight than the two adjacent axle assemblies. However, when the vehicle is loaded, all three axle assemblies provide similar support to the vehicle. | 08-23-2012 |

20150338348 | ULTRASENSITIVE SERS FLOW DETECTOR - The invention provides an apparatus and methods for label-free, chemical specific detection in flow for high throughput characterization of analytes in applications such as flow injection analysis, electrophoresis, and chromatography. A surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) flow detector capable of ultrasensitive optical detection on the millisecond time scale has been developed. The device employs hydrodynamic focusing to improve SERS detection in a flow channel where a sheath flow confines analyte molecules eluted from a capillary over a planar SERS-active substrate. Increased analyte interactions with the SERS substrate significantly improve detection sensitivity. Raman experiments at different sheath flow rates showed increased sensitivity compared with the modeling predictions, indicating increased adsorption. At low analyte concentrations, rapid analyte desorption is observed, enabling repeated and high-throughput SERS detection. The flow detector offers substantial advantages over conventional SERS-based assays such as minimal sample volumes and high detection efficiency. | 11-26-2015 |
