20090311973 | Radio Transmitter and Radio Receiver with Channel Condition Assessment - FM radio transmitter is being widely used in portable devices as a convenient way to output audio contents to ubiquitously available FM radio receivers in cars or homes. However, the signal from the FM radio transmitter may be interfering with the signal being broadcast by an FM radio station. A scan system is incorporated into the FM radio transmitter to quickly and reliably identify a vacant channel for the FM radio transmitter to use. The scan system measures on-channel and out-of-channel signal quality and selects a best channel for transmission based on the measured on-channel and out-of-channel signal quality. The scan system is also incorporated into an FM radio receiver to quickly and reliably tune to a valid channel. The scan system selects the valid channel based on the measured on-channel and out-of-channel signal quality. | 12-17-2009 |
20090311982 | FREQUENCY MODULATION (FM) CLEAR CHANNEL SCANNING SYSTEM AND METHOD OF USING SAME - A scan system receives signals within a band from an antenna and divides the band into sub-bands and scans the channels of each sub-band to determine a candidate channel based on the lowest figure of merit (FOM) and includes an on-channel selection block responsive to a received digital signal and operative to select only the on-channel frequencies and to substantially disregard the out-of-channel frequencies from the digital signal. The scan system generates a FOM on-channel signal representing a measurement of the signal quality of the on-channel signal and includes an out-of-channel selection block responsive to the digital signal and operative to select only the out-of-channel frequencies and to substantially disregard the on-channel frequencies from the digital signal and operative to generate a FOM out-of-channel signal representing a measurement of the signal quality of the out-of-channel signal. | 12-17-2009 |

20100017919 | Rice Gene, GS3, Exerting Primary Control Over Grain Length and Grain Weight - The present invention relates to an isolated major gene GS3 which regulates grain weight and grain length in the rice and the cloning of said gene. The DNA sequence of GS3 gene is as shown in SEQ ID NO. 1 and is 7883 bp in length. GS3 gene comprises 5 exons and encodes 232 amino acids. It is predicted based on bioinformatics analysis that said protein contains conserved domains including a PEBP-like domain, a transmembrane domain, a cysteine-rich domain of TNFR/NGFR and a VWFC domain. cDNA sequence of said gene is as shown in SEQ ID NO. 2. By sequence alignment between three large grain species and 3 small grain species of rice, it is revealed there is only one common single nucleotide mutation in a 7.9-kb region between the two different grain-length groups. Said nucleotide mutation is located at the second exon of the GS3 gene, in which a cysteine codon (TGC) in the small-grain group is mutated to a termination codon (TGA) in the large-grain group. This mutation causes a premature termination in the large-grain group, which leads to a 178-amino acids truncation (including part of the PEBP-like domain and all the other three conserved domains). The present invention also provides methods of producing transgenic plants comprising sequences disclosed herein. | 01-21-2010 |

20120023621 | Cloning and Application of a Pleiotropic Gene Ghd7 that Controls Grains Yield, Heading Date and Plant Height of Rice - The cloning and application of a pleiotropic gene Ghd7 that controls grains yield, heading date and plant height of rice are provided. The gene has the nucleotide sequence as shown in SEQ ID NO: 1. The sequence of the present gene is 3,917 bp in length, contains two exons and encodes 257 amino acids. The cDNA sequence of the gene is as shown in SEQ ID NO: 1. The present gene encodes a protein having the CCT domain of CO protein and having the amino acid sequence as shown in SEQ ID NO: 1. Rice plants transformed with GHD7 gene are obtained using transgenic technology. The transgenic plants all exhibit markedly increased yield, larger number of spikelets per panicle, delayed heading date and elevated plant height as compared to their respective controls (wild type receptors plants). The trait changes are quite consistent with the phenotypes of the two parent genotypes of GHD7 near isogenic lines of Zhenshan 97. The methods for gene cloning, breeding of near isogenic lines and transgene manipulation are also provided, as well as the application of pleiotropic gene GHD7 in research of rice breeding and plant evolution. | 01-26-2012 |

20080262512 | Thrombolysis In Retinal Vessels With Ultrasound - Systems and methods are described providing for the use of ultrasound energy to effect the dislodging of one or more blood clots inside blood vessels. Such clots can include those inside retinal vessels, especially in patients with central retinal vein occlusion. Embodiments of the present disclosure may be used for any retinal arterial or venous occlusion. In exemplary embodiments, a small probe can be inserted into the eye of a patient and placed over the retinal vessels. Acoustic streaming created by the probe can be directed to an area or region including targeted blood vessels, resulting in increased flow in one or more retinal veins and facilitating or effecting mechanical dislodging of one or more blood clots in the targets blood vessels. Exemplary embodiments can utilize ultrasonic energy produced at a frequency of approximately 44 MHz to 46 MHz with pulse repetition frequencies of approximately 100 Hz to 100 kHz. | 10-23-2008 |
20080319319 | Intraocular Ultrasound Doppler Techniques - Systems and methods are disclosed providing for the use of ultrasound energy to measure blood flow within blood vessels by Doppler velocity measurement. Directional high-frequency pulsed-wave Doppler measurements can be made with a suitable ultrasonic needle transducers for in vivo measuring of blood flow. A needle probe can include a ultrasonic material such as PMN-PT. Such blood flow measurements can be made in any part of the body, e.g., in the central retinal vein and branch retinal veins. | 12-25-2008 |
