20140056006 | ILLUMINATION LENS FOR LED BACKLIGHTS - Exemplary embodiments of the present invention relate to an illumination lens disposed over a light-emitting diode (LED). The illumination lens includes an internal surface surrounding the LED and configured to intercept light emitted by the LED, wherein the internal surface comprises an arch-shaped non-rotationally symmetric, elongated horizontal cross-section. The illumination lens also includes an external surface comprising a central cusp, the external surface extending laterally with non-axially-symmetrical profiles in different horizontal directions, the non-axially-symmetric profiles being elliptical with respect to a tilted major axis of the illumination lens, wherein the light-emitting device is configured to produce an elongated illumination pattern. | 02-27-2014 |

20120268950 | Wide-Angle Non-Imaging Illumination Lens Arrayable for Close Planar Targets - An illumination lens for hemispherically emitting light emitting diodes is disclosed that produces a circular illumination pattern of wide extent on a relatively close target. Exemplary applications are in commercial refrigerator-case lighting and in LED backlights for liquid crystal displays. This illumination lens is designed to be installed in arrays, such that the multiple patterns overlap to sum up to a nearly uniform illumination pattern. The individual lens produces an illumination ramp which monotonically declines to zero at or close to the location of the adjacent lens in the array. Design methods are disclosed whereby this illumination ramp is translated into a source-image size function that is the basis for generating any particular lens. Preferred embodiments include a cusp at the center of the outer surface. Design methods are disclosed for numerically generating the lens surfaces for any particular combination of array spacing and target distance. | 10-25-2012 |

20140254134 | Wide- Angle Non- Imaging Illumination Lens Arrayable for Close Planar Targets - A circular LED illumination lens for short throw lighting, for example, as part of a set of such devices installed on mullions in reach-in refrigerator cabinets, to uniformly light access across the rectangular door and shelves. The len has an upper surface with a cavity for the LED, an upper surface the shape of a toroid, generated by an elliptical arc, that serves to magnify the light rays from the LED in an outboard direction, and the minor axis tilted about 17 degrees relatives the center axis of the LED which serves to direct the rays at the center of the shelves. The upper surface also preferably includes a spherical dimple to direct light away from the center axis. | 09-11-2014 |

20150219927 | HYBRID CONTACT LENS - A hybrid contact lens has a rigid gas permeable (RGP) central portion and a soft flexible portion that extends outward from the RGP central portion. The soft flexible portion defines the posterior surface and base curve of the hybrid contact lens that contacts a user's cornea, such that the RGP central portion does not contact the user's cornea while wearing the hybrid contact lens. The hybrid contact lens can be a single lens system with one optical power, or a dual lens system with two different optical powers. | 08-06-2015 |
