20110270646 | COMPUTER IMPLEMENTED DECISION SUPPORT METHOD & SYSTEM - In this research, we propose to extend the robust optimization technique and target it for problems encountered in supply chain management. Our method represents uncertainty as polyhedral uncertainty sets made of simple linear constraints derivable from macroscopic economic data. We avoid the probability distribution estimation of stochastic programming. The constraints in our approach are intuitive and meaningful. This representation of uncertainty is applied to capacity planning and inventory optimization problems in supply chains. The representation of uncertainty is the unique feature that drives this research. It has led us to explore different problems in capacity/inventory planning under this new paradigm. A decision support system package has been developed, which can conveniently interface to manufacturing/firm data warehouses, inferring and analyzing constraints from historical data, analyzing performance (worst case/best case), and optimizing plans. | 11-03-2011 |

20110276354 | ASSESSMENT OF SOFTWARE CODE DEVELOPMENT - A cost per unit of processed code metric is determined based on a quantity of processed code during a given time period that is attributable to one or more developers, and a cost to develop the quantity of processed code during the time period attributable to the one or more developers. Also, a quality scaling factor is calculated based on quality measurements for the quantity of processed code. Thereafter, the cost per unit of processed code metric is scaled (or discounted) by the quality scaling factor to provide a cost of development index (CDI). Because the inputs to the quality scaling factor may be determined in an automated fashion, this CDI determination permits more rapid response to any adverse assessments. Furthermore, because direct measurement of code quality is employed, more meaningful insight is provided into the likelihood that end product, i.e., the software code, is of good quality. | 11-10-2011 |

20120084028 | Framework and Methodology for a Real-Time Fine-Grained Power Profiling with Integrated Modeling - A method, a system and a computer program product for determining power consumption levels for granular segments of program code in a data processing system. A power profiling utility (PPU) utilizes/comprises a power monitoring module, a power profiler module, a performance profiler and a power modeling component which enables PPU to efficiently characterize power consumption of various types of applications. The PPU uses a power measurement device to obtain power consumption measurements corresponding to execution of a first code segment. Additionally, the PPU identifies information about program characteristics of granular code segments within the first code segment. The PPU then determines total power consumption for execution of the first code segment from an aggregation of power consumption measurements corresponding to all iterations of the first code segment. Ultimately, the PPU derives from the total power consumption calculated for the first code segment a finer grained power profile by using the program characteristics information and power modeling information. | 04-05-2012 |

20090155434 | PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION OF HIGHLY ENRICHED FRACTIONS OF NATURAL COMPOUNDS FROM PALM OIL WITH SUPERCRITICAL AND NEAR CRITICAL FLUIDS - From palm oil valuable compounds like the tocochromanols, carotenoids, phytosterols, and others can be derived. Enrichment to highly concentrated fractions is hindered by the enormous number of components involved, the very low volatility, the very low solubility of many of the compounds in organic solvents, and the high viscosity of the mixtures to be processed. Starting materials for the new process are enriched fractions of tocochromanols (about 20 to about 50 wt.-%) and/or carotenoids (about 10 to 30 wt.-%) from palm oil obtained by conventional processes, or by counter current multistage processes with supercritical carbon dioxide. These processes, not addressed here, may comprise: Removal of free fatty acids, transesterification of the triglycerides to methyl or ethyl esters, removal of the esters, e.g. by short path distillation, separation of the tocochromanol fraction from the carotenoid fraction by cooling. In the new process, fractions derived from crude palm oil, already enriched to some extent in tocochromanols, carotenoids, phytosterols, and others, are being treated by supercritical fluid technology in a unique combination of counter current separation with selective adsorption and desorption using supercritical fluids. A first enrichment, comprising one or more separation steps by application of a near critical or a supercritical fluid in a single or multistage (counter current) separation process is combined appropriately with a second enrichment step wherein the product of the first enrichment step is directly adsorbed on an adsorbent (silicagel) by passing the product flow over a fixed bed of adsorbent without substantial pressure change, and subsequent desorption with the same (or an other) near critical or supercritical fluid at the same or a different pressure as in the first separation, or by a pre-designed sequence of pressures and temperatures. For the tocochromanol enrichment, carbon dioxide at near critical conditions above the critical temperature of carbon dioxide is used. For the carotenoid enrichment, propane at near critical conditions below the critical temperature of propane is used. | 06-18-2009 |

20120170393 | PROGRAMMABLE DELAY INTRODUCING CIRCUIT IN SELF-TIMED MEMORY - Delays are introduced in self-timed memories by introducing a capacitance on the path of a signal to be delayed. The capacitances are realized by using idle-lying metal layers in the circuitry. The signal to be delayed is connected to the idle-lying capacitances via programmable switches. The amount of delay introduced depends on the capacitance introduced in the path of signal, which in turn depends on state of the switches. The state of the switches is controlled by delay codes provided externally to the delay introducing circuitry. Since idle-lying metal capacitances are utilized, the circuitry can be implemented using a minimum amount of additional hardware. Also, the delay provided by the circuitry is a function of memory cell SPICE characteristics and core parasitic capacitances. | 07-05-2012 |

20110282980 | DYNAMIC PROTECTION OF A RESOURCE DURING SUDDEN SURGES IN TRAFFIC - Various embodiments of systems and methods for dynamically protecting a server during sudden surges in traffic are described herein. A gatekeeper is triggered by an incoming system request. Based upon queue size associated with the server and expiration of the elements of the queue, the gatekeeper determines whether to forward the incoming system request to the server. The queue size comprises a maximum allowable load within a time window. The expired elements in the queue are removed by comparing the difference of current time and time-stamped time, with time window. If the queue is not full or even if the queue is full but one of the elements in the queue is expired, the incoming system request may be forwarded to the server. If the queue is full and there are no expired elements in the queue, the incoming system request may be dropped. | 11-17-2011 |
