20090168833 | METHOD AND DEVICE FOR TESTING THE FIRE HAZARD OF A MATERIAL - The invention relates to a method and a device for testing the fire hazard of a material. According to one embodiment of the method, a plane region of the surface of a specimen made of the material is brought in contact for at most a predetermined contact time with a glow wire, which has been heated to a predetermined temperature. Image data of the specimen are furthermore acquired by at least a first camera at least while the specimen is in contact with the glow wire. Image processing of the acquired image data of the specimen is furthermore carried out, preferably in realtime, ignition of the specimen by the glow wire being detected if applicable. A first duration is then determined, which corresponds to the length of time between the application of the tip of the glow wire on the specimen and the ignition of the specimen. Furthermore, according to one embodiment of the invention, a second duration may if applicable be determined by means of the image processing of the acquired image data of the specimen, the second duration corresponding to the length of time between the application of the tip of the glow wire on the specimen and the end of the ignition of the specimen. The method and the device are suitable in particular for carrying out tests to assess the fire hazard of materials according to the standards EN 60695-2-10, -12 and -13. | 07-02-2009 |
20100098131 | ANALYSIS OF EFFECTS OF CARGO FIRE ON PRIMARY AIRCRAFT STRUCTURE TEMPERATURES - Systems for analyzing effects of cargo fire on primary aircraft structure are provided. A particular system includes a processor and a memory accessible to the processor. The memory includes instructions executable by the processor to access a thermal profile of a suppressed fire in a physical model of a cargo compartment of an aircraft. The instructions are also executable to analyze heat transfer resulting from applying the thermal profile of the suppressed fire to a structure of the aircraft surrounding the cargo compartment to determine a predicted temperature reached by one or more parts of the structure surrounding the cargo compartment as a result of the suppressed fire. The instructions are also executable to generate an output including the predicted temperature reached by the one or more parts of the structure surrounding the cargo compartment. | 04-22-2010 |
20110228808 | SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR COLLECTING AND ANALYZING THE MEASUREMENTS AND OBSERVATIONS REQUIRED DURING FLAMMABILITY TESTING - A system and method are disclosed for collecting and analyzing the measurements and observations required during flammability testing of materials. The system may include one or more input devices for electronically providing one or more timing signals related to a timing sequence of a specified flammability test and one or more attribute signals related to selected attributes of a test specimen. Additionally, a timing device may be coupled to the one or more input devices. The timing device may be configured to perform one or more time interval measurements based on the one or more timing signals. Further, a computing device may be coupled to the timing device. The computing device may be configured to analyze the one or more time interval measurements and the one or more attribute signals to determine a flammability classification for the test specimen in accordance with the specified flammability test. | 09-22-2011 |
20130128915 | TEMPERATURE CONTROL ELEMENT FOR HEATING AND RAPIDLY COOLING MEASUREMENT SAMPLES - A temperature control element for a measuring device for controlling the temperature of a measurement sample, comprising first and second heating elements delivering thermal energy to the measurement sample, and control means for controlling the heating of the measurement sample, wherein the first and second heating elements heat the measurement sample until a limit temperature has been reached, and wherein thermal resistivity between the first and second heating elements is increased starting at the limit temperature, and the control means disconnects the contact between the first and second heating elements when the limit temperature is reached. A cooling element withdraws thermal energy, and the control means controls cooling of the measurement sample, wherein thermal energy is withdrawn from measurement sample by bringing the cooling element closer to the shut-off of the first heating element, and interrupting the contact between the cooling element and the shut-off of the first heating element. | 05-23-2013 |
20130136150 | Device for Measuring the Flash Point of Liquids and Solids - Device for measuring the flash point of liquids and solids includes a measurement chamber (formed by a measurement basin and a lid) and which is provided with means for heating the liquid or the solid in the basin, an electrical igniter having a spark gap, temperature sensors, a pressure measuring apparatus and a press-on device for tightly connecting the measurement basin and the lid. A control device is provided in order to control the heating means, the igniter and the press-on device and to collect the measured values of the temperature sensors and the pressure measuring apparatus. The control device is formed by a computer designed as an embedded system, which is connected to the heating means, the igniter, the press-on device, the temperature sensors and the pressure measuring apparatus by means of an interface device. The measurement chamber and the control device are arranged in a common housing. | 05-30-2013 |
