20080218821 | Method and Apparatus for Synchronous Laser Beam Scanning - A scanner system. The system includes a mirror assembly having multiple reflective surfaces arranged to form one polygonal shape about an axis. A plurality of the multiple surfaces are each positionable to reflect radiation propagating from the source at a reflective angle and a position on the reflective surface to direct the radiation along a transmit path. When one reflective surface is so positioned, another surface is positioned to receive and reflect radiation along a detector signal path for processing. According to a related method for acquiring image data a mirror assembly is provided with multiple reflective surfaces sequentially arranged to form a polygonal shape about an axis. A beam of radiation is reflected from a first of the reflective surfaces and along a path in a first direction to a target region and a return signal propagates along the path in a second direction away from the target region. A portion of the return signal is reflected from a surface of a second of the reflective surfaces of the mirror assembly and along a path to a detector. | 09-11-2008 |
20080218822 | Scanned-Beam Heads-Up Display and Related Systems and Methods - A heads-up display that includes a scanner and a projection assembly. The scanner generates an image by sweeping a beam of electromagnetic energy, and the projection assembly directs the image into a predetermined viewing space having a region with a substantially uniform intensity profile. Such a heads-up display can often be made smaller than a conventional heads-up display, and can often generate an image having a higher quality than an image generated by a conventional display. Furthermore, one can often calibrate and recalibrate such a display without physically modifying or replacing a component of the display or of a vehicle incorporating the display. | 09-11-2008 |
20090034037 | METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR REDUCING SPECKLE BY VIBRATING A LINE GENERATING ELEMENT - Provided is a method and system for reducing speckle in an image produced from a light source. The method, in one embodiment, includes providing a line generating element, the line generating element having a collection of optical elements having an axis. The method, in this embodiment, further includes directing an input beam of light at the line generating element while the line generating element is being vibrated back and forth in a direction substantially transverse to the axis. | 02-05-2009 |
20090051991 | OPTICAL BEAM SCANNING APPARATUS AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS - An optical beam scanning beam apparatus includes: a light source that emits one or more light fluxes; an optical beam deflecting device that deflects the light flux, which is emitted from the light source, to an scanned object in a main scanning direction; and an aperture part provided between the light source and the optical beam deflecting device. The aperture part includes a first aperture through which a main light beam of the light flux emitted from the light source passes, and at least one second aperture which is different from the first aperture and is provided at one or more of both sides or one side in the main scanning direction and a sub-scanning direction of the first aperture. With this configuration, it is possible to properly reduce sidelobe occurring in a beam profile. | 02-26-2009 |
20090059333 | Optical scanning apparatus, and image forming apparatus - An optical scanning apparatus includes a semiconductor laser and a first optical element that are fixed on a single continuous member. A second optical element, which is a diffraction optical element, has a diffracting surface in which an elliptical groove is formed and which includes a diffracting portion power such that a change in the beam waist position in a main scan direction and a sub-scan direction due to temperature variation in the optical scanning apparatus becomes substantially zero. The member on which the semiconductor laser and the first optical element are fixed has a linear coefficient of expansion such that the ellipticity of the elliptical groove increases. | 03-05-2009 |
