20150241274 | Method and Apparatus for Luminaire Characterization - A method and associated apparatus are disclosed for measuring illumination characteristics of a luminaire having unknown characteristics. The method includes steps of providing an array of calibrated photodetectors in known locations in proximity to a mounting location, and then illuminating the array with a luminaire having unknown illumination properties. The resulting data is used to calculate the luminous intensity vs. angle from the luminaire and the luminous flux of the luminaire. Methods of calibrating the measurement with a known luminaire are presented along with methods of determining the angular position of the detectors in the array. Color-sensitive detectors can be used to determine the angular distribution and average value of the luminaire's correlated color temperature. | 08-27-2015 |
20140297227 | SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PLANNING AND MONITORING A LIGHT SENSORY NETWORK - A method of determining the position of an array of sensors, an array of solid-state lamps, or other devices which sense or emit electromagnetic waves includes first determining a sensing or emitting distribution for one of the devices, then integrating that distribution over the area to be covered by the sensors or emitters. In response to the integrated distribution, the sensors or emitters may be repositioned, reconfigured, or reoriented to provide desired coverage. Wireless access points that communicate to wireless end points associated with the lights and/or sensors are designed and positioned to provide adequate signal strength. All elements, light distribution, sensor range, and wireless signal strength may be plotted in contour plots within the same user interface that enables users to place the devices in a specified area. | 10-02-2014 |
20140293993 | SENSOR NODES WITH MULTICAST TRANSMISSIONS IN LIGHTING SENSORY NETWORK - An embodiment method for communicating data within a lighting sensory network may include configuring a first plurality of lighting nodes to operate as sensor nodes, configuring a second plurality of lighting nodes to operate as listening nodes, generating, by a sensor node using an encryption key, a sensor message associated with sensor data and including at least a timestamp, calculating an interval for transmitting the sensor message, wherein the interval is randomized and exponentially increasing, determining whether to transmit the sensor message based on the calculated interval, transmitting the sensor message in response to determining to transmit the sensor message based on the calculated interval, receiving, by a listening node, the sensor message at a listening node, determining whether the received sensor message is useful based on the timestamp and a predefined age threshold, and performing a lighting action in response to determining the received sensor message is useful. | 10-02-2014 |
20140293603 | LED LIGHT BULB REPLACEMENT WITH ADJUSTABLE LIGHT DISTRIBUTION - An LED lightbulb retrofit is described that can be adjusted to (a) to accommodate both top-socket and bottom-socket applications, (b) generate a variety of IESNA illumination distributions, (c) generate different levels of total lumens, (d) mount to different sockets such as medium and mogul bases, (e) and work in both refractors and globe fixtures. LED printed circuit boards are mounted on multiple exterior surfaces of a single heat sink with internal fins that can be cut to different lengths to accommodate different numbers of PCBs with a parallel connector mounted (a) symmetrically for symmetrical lighting distributions or (b) asymmetrically for asymmetrical lighting distributions. LED light is controlled by an adjustable array of reflectors or lenses located over the LEDs. | 10-02-2014 |
20140222510 | Lighting Infrastructure and Revenue Model - Methods, devices, and systems for implementing lighting infrastructure application frameworks and networks and associated revenue models. In one embodiment, a computing device may receive a request from a first device to access data from a lighting infrastructure application framework, and the data from the lighting infrastructure application framework may include data from lighting node platform(s). In an embodiment, the computing device may perform authorizations related to providing access to data, as well as transmit responses to requests for data. Costs and revenues associated with applications may also be performed based on usage of platforms, sensors, and controllers within a lighting infrastructure. In an embodiment, software, applications, and other instructions may be transmitted by a computing device in response to receiving requests. In another embodiment, a computing device may process received data (e.g., sensor data from lighting node platforms) to detect trends or events relevant to applications. | 08-07-2014 |
20140140056 | SYSTEM FOR OPTIMIZED PLANT GROWTH - A system for enabling controlled plant growth of plants in containers includes linear tracks spaced apart from each other by intervening supporting plates. Each track includes an array of blue and red LEDs affixed to a heat sink which can slide along the track to be positioned in a desired arrangement to the container beneath it. A controller for the LEDs is positioned between every other pair of tracks to control adjacent arrays of LEDs. The controller controls the LEDs to provide light of desired intensity and wavelength to the plants in the containers. | 05-22-2014 |
20140084795 | NETWORKED LIGHTING INFRASTRUCTURE FOR SENSING APPLICATIONS - A network using existing streetlights is described. Each street light becomes a node in the network, and each includes a power terminal for receiving electrical power, a light source coupled to the power terminal, a processor coupled to the power terminal, a network interface coupled between the processor and the network of lighting systems, and a sensor coupled to the processor for detecting a condition at the node, and in response providing information about that condition to the processor. | 03-27-2014 |
