Description:
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0001] 1. Field of the Invention
[0002] The present invention relates to golf club technology, and more particularly, to a two-piece type golf club head.
[0003] 2. Description of the Related Art
[0004] In order to stabilize the manipulation of a golf club, the center of gravity of the club head is preferably designed as low as possible. For lowering the center of gravity of the club head, a heavy weight material, such as stainless steel, may be used during fabrication. However, a heavy weight material has the physical properties of high hardness and low flexibility. In order to enhance the flexibility of a club head, a material having better flexibility, such as titanium, shall be used. However, a material having better flexibility normally has less weight. Thus, we are facing a dilemma when selecting materials for making golf club heads.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0005] The present invention has been accomplished under the circumstances in view. It is the main object of the present invention to provide a golf club head, which is a two-piece design.
[0006] To achieve this and other objects of the present invention, a two-piece type golf club head of the present invention comprises a body member and a bottom member. The body member comprises a top wall, a peripheral wall extending around the top wall and defining a ball-hitting surface, an opening surrounded by the peripheral wall and a neck located at one end of the top wall, and a bottom member mounted in the opening and connected to the peripheral wall of the body member.
[0007] Other advantages and features of the present invention will be fully understood by reference to the following specification in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which like reference signs denote like components of structure.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0008] FIG. 1 is an oblique top elevational view of a two-piece type golf club head in accordance with the present invention.
[0009] FIG. 2 is an exploded view of the two-piece type golf club head in accordance with the present invention.
[0010] FIG. 3 is a sectional view of the two-piece type golf club head in accordance with the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0011] Referring to FIGS. 1-3, a two-piece type golf club head in accordance with the present invention is shown. The two-piece type golf club head comprises a body member 10 and a bottom member 20.
[0012] The body member 10 comprises a top wall 11, a peripheral wall 12 extended from a ring-shaped border area of the top wall 11 toward one lateral side and defining a planar ball-hitting surface 13, a bottom wall 14 extended from a bottom side of the planar ball-hitting surface 13 and terminating in a bottom flange 15, a neck 16 located at one end of the top wall 11 and adapted for fastening to a golf club shaft (not shown), and a top flange 17 extended from the peripheral wall 12 and integrally connected with the bottom flange 15 to form an annular flange.
[0013] The bottom member 20 comprises a mounting groove 21 extending around a part of the border edge thereof and a mounting flange 22 extending around the other part of the border edge, i.e., the mounting groove 21 and the mounting flange 22 extend around the whole border edge of the bottom member 20 with the two distal ends of the mounting groove 21 respectively connected to the two distal ends of the mounting flange 22. The bottom member 20 is mounted at the bottom side of the peripheral wall 12 of the body member 10 to force the mounting groove 21 into engagement with the bottom flange 15 of the bottom wall 14 and to abut the mounting flange 22 against an outer side of the top flange 17, enabling the mounting flange 22 and the top flange 17 to be lap-connected together.
[0014] Further, the bottom member 20 and the body member 10 can be fixedly fastened together by welding or explosion welding. Because the bottom member 20 and the body member 10 are two separated components, they can be Made of different materials in different structural designs. Further, bottom members 20 with different specific gravities or made of different materials can be selectively used with the body member 20 to form a golf club head having a different gravity or physical properties.
[0015] Further, because the planar ball-hitting surface 13 is an integral part of the body member 10, the top wall 1 and the bottom wail 14 give optimal support to the planar ball-hitting surface 13, i.e., the planar ball-hitting surface 13 can have better flexibility when hitting the ball. Thus, the two-piece type golf club head structure of the present invention effectively improves the drawbacks of the conventional products and solves the manufacturing problems of the prior art designs.
[0016] Although a particular embodiment of the invention has been described in detail for purposes of illustration, various modifications and enhancements may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Accordingly, the invention is not to be limited except as by the appended claims.
