Abstract

An article of manufacture for providing a golf chipping and pitching training tool is disclosed. The article includes a circular golf landing mat, a center cut out for indicating a golf cup, a set of concentric circles centered about the center cut out, and a horizontal and vertical line across the golf landing mat dividing the golf landing mat into 4 quadrants.

TECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] This application relates in general to an article of manufacture for providing golf training assistance, and more specifically, to an article of manufacture for providing a golf chipping or pitching and putting training tool.

BACKGROUND

[0002] There are many different golf game improvement tools on the market. All of them focus on improving one area of a player's game. Examples include putting mats or chipping nets. However, in the game of golf confidence in the process are the keys to helping you lower your scores. You need to feel like you have done something before you can be confident that you can repeat it under pressure on the course. Practicing your short game process in full has a major influence on you lowering your scores.

[0003] Therefore, a need exists for an article of manufacture for providing a golf chipping or pitching and then putting training tool. The present invention attempts to address the limitations and deficiencies of prior training aids according to the principles and example embodiments of the present invention.

SUMMARY

[0004] In accordance with the present invention, the above and other problems are solved by providing an article of manufacture for a golf chipping or pitching and then putting training tool. according to the principles and example embodiments disclosed herein.

[0005] In one embodiment, the present invention is an article of manufacture for providing a golf chipping or pitching and then putting training tool. The article includes a circular golf landing mat, a center cut out for indicating a golf cup, a set of concentric circles centered about the center cut out, and a horizontal and vertical line across the golf landing mat dividing the golf landing mat into 4 quadrants.

[0006] In another aspect of the present disclosure, the circular golf landing mat has a diameter of 13 feet.

[0023] In general, the present disclosure relates to an article of manufacture for providing a golf trainer. To better understand the present invention, FIG. 1 illustrates an example embodiment of an article of manufacture for providing a golf chipping or pitching and then putting training tool according to the present invention.

[0024] This trainer 101 combines the process of chipping or pitching and then putting that a golfer likely performs 18 or more times a round, and will need to master in order to be confident standing on the fringe or rough and repeat in order to lower scores. The concept is simplistic. The trainer 101 is a straight forward circular mat that allows a golfer to not only dial in his/her chipping form and gain confidence that he/she is able to chip closer to the hole, but then also gain confidence in to then standing directly over that chip, near or far, and create the muscle and cognitive memory required to stand over that putt and make it in to the hole from anywhere within 6 feet. The trainer 101 also is segmented in quadrants to enable advanced and intermediate golfers to also practice chipping or pitching to a quadrant 212a-d enabling them to practice chipping or pitching to different areas of the green that may leave them with an easier putt that has less break and is more likely to be holed.

[0025] The trainer 101 may be used in any location that provides enough space for the distance the golfer wishes to practice. The trainer may be used both indoors as well as outdoors. The golfer may use his/her own clubs in practicing chipping or pitching and then putting. The trainer 101 is made of a synthetic grass like mat that replicates the putting green on a golf course. It may also be made of multiple types of synthetic grass to create even more practice scenarios for the golfer. The golfers can utilize multiple types of existing golf balls when using the trainer 101. If they truly want to practice their game, they will use the same ball they play with to ensure that they are truly practicing accurate distance control on the chip or pitch and then also using the same ball for putting. When used in this way, the trainer 101 truly enables practice that can be repeated in play. However, the golfer can use any types of golf balls or training balls that they feel will make an impact on their game or if there space is limited, and they want to reduce the potential for accidental breakage to other objects in their environment. i.e. Tables, chairs, electronics, etc. The material of the trainer 101 makes it truly mobile, easy to move and flexible. The addition of quadrants to the trainer 101 also greatly increases the usage of the trainer 101 to more skilled players. Even golfers with the skill to play professionally can utilize the trainer 101 to improve their game. The trainer also provides the opportunity to afford a very young golfer to learn and improve. Even players under 5 years old can use this trainer to start engraining muscle and mental memory to ultimately play better golf because of the ease of use of the trainer 101.

[0026] FIG. 2 illustrates another example embodiment of an article of manufacture for providing a golf chipping or pitching and then putting training tool according to the present invention. The trainer 101 is a 13 foot wide circular mat. In addition, quadrant lines that run horizontal 211 and vertical 210 across the entire mat in order to clearly define 4 different quadrants 212a-d. A lip may also be added to the cup area to enable golfers to practice speed control. The golfer need to hit putts firm to make more of them and adding the lip that putts or chips or pitches needs to navigate in order to go in the hole will help golfers practice this skill and make sure they will hit the firm enough on the course to go in. The mat presents a central circle representing a golf cup. A set of increasing concentric circles mark the distance from the cup. In the embodiment of FIG. 2, the circles mark distances of 2 feet, 4 feet, and 6 feet. Each circle is presented in a different color to permit the golfer to see his/her distance from afar. One of ordinary skill will recognize that any number of marking circles may be used consistent with the principles of the present invention. Other embodiments may be made with the circular mat having diameters of 4.5' and 8.5' having the concentric circles scaled down in size accordingly.

In fact, many of these features may be combined in ways not specifically recited in this application. In other words, any of the features mentioned in this application may be included to this new invention in any combination or combinations to allow the functionality required for the desired operations.

Claims

1. An article of manufacture for providing a golf chipping and pitching training tool, the article comprises: a circular golf landing mat; a center cut out for indicating a golf cup; a set of concentric circles centered about the center cut out; and a horizontal and vertical line across the golf landing mat dividing the golf landing mat into 4 quadrants.

2. The article of manufacturer according to claim 1, wherein the circular golf landing mat has a diameter comprising 4.5 feet, 8.5 feet and 13 feet.

3. The article of manufacturer according to claim 1, wherein the set of concentric circles comprises 3 rings having increasing diameters.

4. The article of manufacturer according to claim 3, wherein the set of concentric circles have a diameter of 2, 4, and 6 feet.

5. The article of manufacturer according to claim 1, wherein the center cut out has a raised lip.

6. The article of manufacturer according to claim 1, wherein the circular golf landing mat is made of synthetic grass like mat that replicates the putting green on a golf course.
