Abstract:
Regular grid game board such as used for chess or checkers but with
stencil filtered back lights used to indicate the dark and light
semi-transparent game board regions in lieu of typical reflective game
board coloring. This enables game play in dimly lit environments with the
use of game board back lighting, but prevents eye strain with the
configuration of back lighting for the dark game board regions only. It
also enables the use of non traditional checkered colored patterns of
similar brightness and hue on the game board, where the light squares are
indicated by back lighting and the dark squares are indicated by the the
absence of back lighting.Claims:
1. Semi-transparent checkered game board pattern that is of similar or
identical color.
2. The use of checkered pattern interval back lighting to produce the checkered game board pattern that is of similar or even identical color through the use of color brightness levels as enabled by interval back lighting.
Description:
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to checkered game board construction method so as to enable the use of non traditional checkered color palettes and to enable safe use of the said checkered game board in dimly lit environments.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
[0002] Common checkered game board are manufactured from wooden and paper materials, which is, while efficient, limits the checkered patterns to color choices from distant locations of the visible electromagnetic spectrum, so as to aid in the readability of the board. This limits typical color choices to white/black, white/green and other such common combinations.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0003] The object of this invention is to solve the above problem of limited color choices and environment limited readability in traditional checkered board game designs.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0004] For a more complete understanding of the present invention and the advantages thereof, reference is now made to the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
[0005] FIG. 1 is a top view of the invention.
[0006] FIG. 2 is a side cut out view of the same invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
[0007] The present invention provides a square grid game board typically used in chess and checker and other games that can be safely used in the dark and that can support similar or even identical color sets to differentiate the square and player colors.
[0008] This is accomplished through the use of semi-transparent material that is back lit in intervals. This invention combines the features of non lit reflective game boards made of wood or other materials, and the features of completely back lit game boards that are found in the marketplace.
[0009] Hereinafter, an embodiment, which is an interval lit semi-transparent game board, will be explained based on the accompanying drawings.
[0010] As shown in FIG. 1, the top view of the semi-transparent pane of the checkered game board is shown. The checkered pattern is composed of lit regions as is shown in 1, designated by low density hatching, and of non lit regions as is shown in 2, designated by high density hatching.
[0011] FIG. 2 shows the side cut out view of the same embodiment. Relating back to the previous figure, the checkered pattern parts composed of non lit regions are as is shown in 3, designated by high density hatching. Similarly, the checkered pattern parts composed of lit regions are as is shown in 4, designated by low density hatching.
[0012] The side and bottom casing made of any suitable material such as wood, plastic or metal is shown in 5 and 7.
[0013] A sample lighting option is shown in 6, where a lamp is shown lighting the square above, producing the light region in 4. Similarly, a sample absence of lighting is shown in 8, producing a dark region such as in 3.
