Abstract:
An air gun projectile includes a tail portion, a nose portion, and a
container having a top releasably secured to the nose portion. Filling is
contained in the container. The container is tapered to a bottom. The
tail portion includes spaced vanes formed with a lower portion of the
container, and a rim formed with outer ends of the vanes. The vanes are
inclined with respect to the rim. The rim is tapered to a bottom. The
container includes a plurality of spaced longitudinal grooves formed on
an inner surface, and a plurality of circular grooves formed on the inner
surface. The nose portion includes a plurality of spaced longitudinal
grooves formed on an inner surface, and a plurality of circular grooves
formed on the inner surface.Claims:
1. An air gun projectile, comprising: a tail portion; a nose portion; and
a container releasably secured to the nose portion and configured to
contain a filling; wherein the container is tapered to a bottom; wherein
the tail portion includes a plurality of spaced vanes formed with a lower
portion of the container, and a rim formed with outer ends of the vanes;
wherein the vanes are inclined with respect to the rim; wherein the rim
is tapered to a bottom; wherein the container includes a plurality of
spaced longitudinal grooves formed on an inner surface, and a plurality
of circular grooves formed on the inner surface; and wherein the nose
portion includes a plurality of spaced longitudinal grooves formed on an
inner surface, and a plurality of circular grooves formed on the inner
surface.Description:
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
1. Field of the Invention
[0001] The invention relates to air gun projectiles and more particularly to an aerodynamic air gun projectile having an improved tail portion.
2. Description of Related Art
[0002] Conventional air gun projectiles are disadvantageous because it experiences great drag during flight, i.e., decreased firing range.
[0003] Thus, the need for improvement still exists.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0004] It is therefore one object of the invention to provide an air gun projectile comprising a tail portion; a nose portion; and a container releasably secured to the nose portion and configured to contain a filling; wherein the container is tapered to a bottom; wherein the tail portion includes a plurality of spaced vanes formed with a lower portion of the container, and a rim formed with outer ends of the vanes; wherein the vanes are inclined with respect to the rim; wherein the rim is tapered to a bottom; wherein the container includes a plurality of spaced longitudinal grooves formed on an inner surface, and a plurality of circular grooves formed on the inner surface; and wherein the nose portion includes a plurality of spaced longitudinal grooves formed on an inner surface, and a plurality of circular grooves formed on the inner surface.
[0005] The above and other objects, features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following detailed description taken with the accompanying drawings.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0006] FIG. 1 is a perspective view of an air gun projectile according to the invention;
[0007] FIG. 2 is an exploded view of FIG. 1;
[0008] FIG. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of FIG. 1;
[0009] FIG. 4 is another longitudinal sectional view of FIG. 1 showing a flow field of the launched projectile;
[0010] FIG. 5 is a bottom view of FIG. 1;
[0011] FIG. 6 is a perspective view of the lower portion of the projectile showing the flow field of the launched projectile; and
[0012] FIG. 7 is an environmental view showing the projectiles loaded in an air pistol in a ready to fire position.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0013] Referring to FIGS. 1 to 7, an air gun projectile in accordance with the invention comprises a tail portion 10, a half-spherical nose portion 2, and a container 1 having a top releasably secured to the nose portion 2. The container 1 is tapered downward. The tail portion 10 includes four spaced vanes 3 integrally formed with a lower portion of the container 1, and a rim 4 formed with outer ends of the vanes 3. The vanes 3 are inclined with respect to the rim 4. The rim 4 is tapered to a bottom. A plurality of spaced longitudinal grooves 11 are formed on an inner surface of the container 1. A plurality of spaced longitudinal grooves 21 are formed on an inner surface of the nose portion 2. Two parallel circular grooves 12, 13 are formed on an intermediate portion of the inner surface of the container 1. Two parallel circular grooves 22, 23 are formed on the inner surface of the nose portion 2. The provision of the grooves 11, 12, 13, 21, 22 and 23 facilitates the breakage of the projectile after it hits an object after being launched. Filling 5 (e.g., paint, pepper powder, or the like) may be filled in the container 1.
[0014] As shown in FIGS. 4, 5 and 6 specifically, it is envisaged by the invention that smooth air flows with greatly decreased drag are generated when the projectile has been launched. Further, the flight is more stable.
[0015] As shown in FIG. 7 specifically, the projectiles are loaded in an air pistol 7 in a ready to fire position.
[0016] While the invention has been described in terms of preferred embodiments, those skilled in the art will recognize that the invention can be practiced with modifications within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
