Secure easily accessible pocket

Abstract

A garment pocket that secures a smartphone or wallet without using zippers or velcro and a method for making same. Keep valuable items secure while being quickly and easily accessible. Protects a phone from damage by coins and keys. The pocket is made secure based on its opening direction and placement relative to a normal pocket by using its outer flap as a barrier to catch any items that may slide out. This pocket is on the hip to reduce damage to phones during activity by moving them off the users lap. The placement of the pocket also reduces pocket swing.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

(A) Field of the Invention

[0004] The present disclosure relates generally to a garment pocket. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to a secure pocket in a garment for carrying smart phones and wallets without them sliding or falling out and a method for making same.

(B) Background

[0005] A mobile phone is a very big and important part of peoples lives today. They are used for work, banking, relationships, navigation, entertainment, and much more. They are rarely left behind and can be expensive.

[0006] Some people carry these devices in pockets and they are vulnerable to sliding out and being lost or broken. When lifting your legs, sitting, or lying down they can fall out. This happens most frequently when at the gym or wearing athletic shorts/pants.

[0007] Some people carry phones in an arm band or a bag/purse which are not very accessible.

[0008] When carrying a phone in a front pocket it tends to sit in front of the leg. This causes the pocket to swing a lot when running. The phone can also rest on top of your leg when you sit down which can get in the way or get damaged when lifting weights.

[0009] Some pockets have zipper or button closures. These add an extra step in retrieving items from a pocket. Zippers can break or become stuck and buttons can fall off.

[0010] A phone can be scratched in a front pocket when carried with keys, coins, or other objects.

[0011] Wallets can be carried in a front pocket and easily fall out as well causing loss.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0012] A garment pocket that secures and protects cell phones or wallets from sliding out causing damage or loss while still being easily accessible. This pocket works along with a standard pocket and is secure without the use of zippers, velcro, or buttons. Having a separate pocket for a cell phone protects it from scratches from keys, coins, and other items. The secure pocket is located on the hip which helps reduce pocket swing. This also improves comfort by moving a cell phone off the users lap allowing for greater range of motion.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0020] A garment pocket that secures items in his or her pocket, for example, but not limited to, cell phones, money, keys, and wallets. The following description refers to the use of a pair of athletic shorts that use the secure garment pocket for the security of belongings, comfort, and quick access. However, it will be understood that this invention may be used in any other desirable application for example for sweatpants, athletic pants, skirts, and any other lower body garment. It is understood by those of ordinary skill that the secure pocket can be coupled to a standard right side pocket or a standard left side pocket. It also can be used with standard pockets that have a zipper, velcro, or button closure.

[0021] FIG. 1 illustrates a perspective view of a garment 50 with its preferred embodiments. Said garment 50 has a waistband 30 around the perimeter of the top of said garment and is attached to said garment with bottom waistband seam 32. A side seam 24 runs vertically down from the bottom of waistband seam 32 on each side of said garment. Garment 50 is illustrated with a standard pocket 20 as known in the industry and is shown with dashed lines as it is unseen from the outside of the garment. Said standard pocket 20 is accessed through a vertical pocket flap 22 along the side seam 24 with it's opening access towards the rear of said garment. When sitting, lifting your legs, or lying down items are susceptible to falling out of said standard pocket as the opening direction is facing down towards the ground. The secure pocket 6 has an opening access that is facing the front of said garment in the opposite direction of said standard pocket.

[0022] As shown in FIG. 3 a cell phone 8 is being inserted into secure pocket 6 through secure pocket opening 12 which is facing the front of said garment. Said cell phone in FIG. 2 is shown in a vertical direction in the formed pocket perpendicular to said pocket opening. Said cell phone sits in said secure pocket close to the users hip.

[0023] The secure pocket 6 is formed from two pocket walls 10 in an "r" shape that are seamed together at it's perimeter. The top of secure pocket opening 12 to the bottom of said opening is not seamed to be an access to said secure pocket between said pocket walls 10. The pocket walls 10 having a top seam 14T that is joined to said garments waistband 30 at the bottom waistband seam 32. Said pocket walls each having a rear side seam 14R that extends from the top of said pocket to the bottom of said pocket intersecting bottom seam 14B creating a semi-round corner. Said bottom seam intersecting the bottom of front side seam 14F creating a semi-round corner. Rear seam 14R opposing pocket opening 12 and front side seam 14F, said pocket walls having a bottom seam 14B opposing top seam 14T.

[0024] Upper seam 14U begins at the top of the secure pocket opening 12 and extends towards said rear seam curving downwards one quarter circle terminating at said rear seam. Upper seam 14U joins the said secure pocket walls together creating the rounded top pocket shape.

[0025] FIG. 4 illustrates an inside view of garment 50 and the preferred embodiments. The secure pocket 6 joins to said garment at the waistband 30. The top seam 14T of said pocket is attached with a continuous seam to the bottom waistband seam 32.

[0026] FIG. 2 illustrates a side view of a garment 50 with a cell phone 8 in the secure pocket 6. Said garment has a pocket flap 22 on the upper portion along the side seam 24. Said flap is the opening access to the standard pocket 20. Secure pocket opening 12 is located underneath said pocket flap and about one inch closer to the front of said garment than said pocket flap.

Pocket flap 22 covers said pocket opening when said flap is in it's natural position so any items that could inadvertently exit said secure pocket can be stopped by said flap.

Said inner wall has a vertical slit or separation in the material creating the standard pocket wall opening 16. Secure pocket perimeter 28 is joined to the back side of inner wall opening perimeter 18 with a continuous seam. Said pocket perimeter opening and inner wall opening perimeter are the same size and shape.

[0031] In one example embodiment the secure pocket 6 has a bottom seam 14B that is three and a half inches wide, the secure pocket opening 12 is three and a half inches tall, the height of front seam 14F is six inches, and rear seam 14R is eleven inches.

Claims

1. A secure holding pocket for a cell phone or wallet forming part of a garment, the holder being formed as a separate holding pocket with it's opening access located within a standard pocket of said garment.

2. A secure holding pocket wherein said pocket is formed by material seamed together around its perimeter configured to an "r" shape leaving a pocket opening access region for permitting a cell phone or wallet to be received and held in said holding pocket.

3. A secure holding pocket according to claim 1, wherein said pocket opening access is configured to be perpendicular to a surface stood on by a person wearing the garment.

4. A secure holding pocket according to claim 1, wherein said pocket opening is located and joined to the inside wall of said standard pocket.

5. A secure holding pocket according to claim 1, wherein said pocket opening access is underneath the outer pocket flap of said standard pocket.

6. A secure holding pocket according to claim 1, wherein said pocket opening is structured to face the front of said garment.

7. A pocket according to claim 2, wherein the top of said pocket is attached to the bottom waistband seam of said garment.
