DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0015] With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 5 thereof, a new fan device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.
[0016] As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 5, the omnidirectional fan assembly 10 generally comprises a base 12 that is positionable on a support surface 14. The base 12 has a top end 16 and a bottom end 18, and the bottom end 18 abuts the support surface 14. The base 12 may have a conical shape, a cubic shape and any other three dimensional shape. A tower 20 is rotatably coupled to the base 12 and the tower 20 extends upwardly from the support surface 14. The tower 20 may have a height ranging between approximately 60.0 cm and 90.0 cm.
[0017] The tower 20 has a bottom end 22, a top end 24 and an outer surface 26 extending therebetween. The outer surface 26 has a plurality of intersecting sides 28 and the tower 20 has a cubic shape. The bottom end 22 of the tower 20 is rotatably coupled to the top end 16 of the base 12. Moreover, the tower 20 may be rotated 360.0 degrees about a vertical axis extending through the top end 24 and the bottom end 22 of the tower 20. The bottom end 22 of the tower 20 has an air intake 30 extending into an interior of the tower 20 to pass air into the interior of the tower 20. A handle 31 may be attached to the top end 24 of the tower 20 for carrying the tower 20 and the base 12.
[0018] The outer surface 26 has a plurality of apertures 32 extending into the interior of the tower 20 and each of the apertures 32 is in fluid communication with the air intake 30. The apertures 32 are distributed around each of the intersecting sides 28 of the outer surface 26 and the apertures 32 are vertically distributed between the top end 24 and the bottom end 22 of the tower 20. The plurality of apertures 32 may be divided into a plurality of groups of apertures 32 and each of the groups of apertures 32 may be positioned on a respective one of the intersecting sides 28 of the outer surface 26 of the tower 20.
[0019] A plurality of fans 34 is provided and each of the fans 34 is coupled to the tower 20. Each of the fans 34 blows air when the fans 34 are turned on for cooling an area. The area may be a room in a house, an office, an outdoor porch and any other area that can be occupied by a person or persons. The fans 34 are distributed around the tower 20 for urging air omnidirectionally with respect to the tower 20. Moreover, each of the fans 34 is capable of being discreetly turned on with respect to each other for urging air in a selected direction with respect to the tower 20.
[0020] Each of the fans 34 is positioned in a respective one of the apertures 32 in the outer surface 26 of the tower 20. Thus, each of the fans 34 urges air inwardly through the intake and outwardly through the respective aperture when the fans 34 are turned on. Each of the fans 34 may be electric fans or the like that may include an electric motor and a plurality of blades that are rotated by the electric motor. The plurality of fans 34 may be divided into a plurality of groups of fans 34 and the groups of fans 34 may be on a respective one of the intersecting sides 28 of the outer surface 26 of the tower 20.
[0021] A plurality of grills 36 is provided and each of the grills 36 is coupled to the outer surface 26 of the tower 20. Each of the grills 36 is aligned with a respective one of the apertures 32 to cover the fan 34 that is positioned in the respective aperture 32. A rotating unit 38 may be provided and the rotating unit 38 may be coupled between the tower 20 and the base 12. Additionally, the rotating unit 38 may rotate or oscillate the tower 20 about the vertical axis and the rotating unit 38 may include an electric motor and corresponding gears or the like.
[0022] A plurality of switches 40 is provided and each of the switches 40 is coupled to the tower 20. Each of the switches 40 is electrically coupled to a respective one of the fans 34 to turn the respective fan 34 on and off. The switches 40 may be divided into groups of switches 40 and each of the groups of switches 40 may be positioned on a respective one of the intersecting sides 28 of the outer surface 26 of the tower 20. Additionally, each of the groups of switches 40 may be in electrical communication with each of the fans 34 in a respective one of the groups of fans 34. Thus, each of the groups of fans 34 may be turned on simultaneously or independently. Each of the fans 34 in each of the groups of fans 34 may additionally be turned on simultaneously or independently.
[0023] A power cord 42 is coupled to and extends away from the tower 20 and the power cord 42 is electrically coupled to each of the switches 40. The power cord 42 has a distal end 44 with respect to the tower 20. A plug 46 is electrically coupled to the distal end 44 for plugging into a power source 48. The power source 48 may be a female electrical outlet in the area or the like.
[0024] In use, the base 12 and the tower 20 are positioned at a selected location and selected ones of the switches 40 are manipulated to turn on selected ones of the fans 34. The fans 34 can be turned on in any combination, including all fans 34 simultaneously, all fans 34 in a selected group of fans 34, all fans 34 in a selected plurality of groups of fans 34 and any other conceivable combination. Additionally, the tower 20 is rotatable about the vertical axis thereby facilitating air to be urged in any selected direction from the tower 20. The number of fans 34 that are turned on can be increased and decreased to urge the air at a variety of selectable velocities. In this way the user has nearly complete control over the direction, volume and velocity of air blown by the fans 34.
[0025] With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
[0026] Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word "comprising" is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article "a" does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
