Description:
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Field of Invention
[0001] The present invention relates to a yoga mat with reinforced sections to provide additional cushioning.
Description of Related Art
[0002] Yoga is an ancient practice that has increased popularity in recent years. Yoga is a form of body movement synced with breathing techniques to provide both physical and psychological benefits for the participant. Yoga practice is usually conducted on a mat on a flat surface. Yoga studios are very popular and provide specialized practice and instruction on yoga techniques and movements. One essential equipment for yoga relates to the yoga mat that is used by practitioners. The mat is usually about 6 foot in length and 21/2 feet in width. The mats usually come in various thicknesses and include a sticky surface to help with the practice of yoga. Yoga is normally practiced without shoes and bare feet; therefore, the mat must have some stickiness or resilience to prevent slipping. Further, the thickness of the mat may vary to provide cushioning for the user when engaged in various positions. It is the object of the present invention to provide a yoga mat that varies in thickness and includes a reinforced cushion portion at the mid-line of a yoga mat.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0003] The present invention relates to a yoga mat including: a head section, wherein the head section has a first thickness; a foot section, wherein the foot section has a second thickness; and a mid-section, wherein the mid-section has a third thickness. Preferably, the first thickness equals the second thickness and the third thickness is greater than the first thickness and the second thickness. Although the first thickness and the second thickness may differ, the third thickness is greater than either the first thickness or second thickness.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
[0004] FIG. 1 depicts a yoga mat in accordance with the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0005] The present invention relates to a yoga mat with a reinforced cushioning portion at the mid-section of the yoga mat. The yoga mat includes a head portion and a foot portion at each respective end of the yoga mat. A reinforced section is provided at the mid-section of the yoga mat. The reinforced section provides a greater thickness and thus increased cushioning at the center of the yoga mat. This length of the reinforced section may vary and preferably is about 12 inches in length.
[0006] FIG. 1 shows the yoga mat 100 in accordance with the present invention. The yoga mat 100 includes a head Section 32 and a foot Section 36. These sections are manufactured with a first thickness and preferably an equal thickness as shown in FIG. 1. Mid-Section 34 includes a reinforced section that has a second thickness. This second thickness as shown in FIG. 1 is greater than the first thickness of the head Section 32 and foot Section 36. This reinforced section provides additional cushioning for the user and padding as needed for practice of yoga on the top surface of the mat. Preferably the mid-section is 12 inches in length and 0.25 inches to 0.75 inches in the thickness.
[0007] The foregoing descriptions of specific embodiments of the present invention have been presented for purposes of illustration and description. They are not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the invention to the precise forms disclosed, and obviously many modifications and variations are possible in light of the above teaching. The exemplary embodiment was chosen and described in order to best explain the principles of the invention and its practical application, to thereby enable others skilled in the art to best utilize the invention and various embodiments with various modifications as are suited to the particular use contemplated.
