BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

(1) Field of the Invention

(2) Description of Related Art Including Information Disclosed Under 37 CFR 1.97 and 1.98

[0006] The disclosure and prior art relates to training devices and more particularly pertains to a new training device for training in throwing a football.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0007] An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a pad that is positioned between a non throwing arm of a quarterback and a torso of the quarterback. The pad has a channel therein to receive the non throwing arm thereby facilitating the non throwing arm to be positioned in a preferred geometry for throwing a football. The pad is comprised of a resiliently compressible material. The pad is compressed between the non throwing arm and the torso when the football is thrown thereby enhancing throwing mechanics.

[0008] There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.

[0009] The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWING(S)

[0010] The disclosure will be better understood and objects other than those set forth above will become apparent when consideration is given to the following detailed description thereof. Such description makes reference to the annexed drawings wherein:

[0011] FIG. 1 is a top perspective view of a quarterback training assembly according to an embodiment of the disclosure.

[0012] FIG. 2 is a right side view of an embodiment of the disclosure.

[0013] FIG. 3 is a bottom view of an embodiment of the disclosure.

[0014] FIG. 4 is a top view of an embodiment of the disclosure.

[0015] FIG. 5 is a perspective in-use view of an embodiment of the disclosure.

[0016] FIG. 6 is a cross sectional view taken along line 6-6 of FIG. 2 of an embodiment of the disclosure.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0017] With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 6 thereof, a new training device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

[0018] As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 6, the quarterback training assembly 10 generally comprises a pad 12 that is selectively positioned between a non throwing arm 14 of a quarterback 18 and a torso 16 of the quarterback 18. The pad 12 has a channel 20 therein to receive the non throwing arm 14. In this way the non throwing arm 14 is positioned in a preferred geometry for throwing a football 22. The pad 12 is comprised of a resiliently compressible material such as foam rubber or the like. The pad 12 is compressed between the non throwing arm 14 and the torso 16 when the football 22 is thrown thereby enhancing throwing mechanics.

[0019] The pad 12 has a first surface 24, a second surface 26 and a peripheral surface 28 extending therebetween. The peripheral surface 28 has a front side 30 and a top side 32 and the channel 20 is positioned on the first surface 24. Moreover, the channel 20 curves between the front side 30 and the top side 32 at approximately a right angle. In this way the channel 20 positions the non throwing arm 14 in the preferred geometry.

[0020] The peripheral surface 28 is concavely arcuate between the front side 30 and the top side 32. Thus, the pad 12 forms a rectangle with one rounded corner. The second surface 26 has a prominence 34 thereon and the prominence 34 is aligned with and is coextensive with the channel 20. The prominence 34 enhances the pad 12's resistance to being compressed.

[0021] A bag 36 is provided and the bag 36 is positioned around the pad 12. The bag 36 is comprised of a fluid impermeable material to keep the pad 12 dry. Additionally, the bag 36 is comprised of an abrasion resistant material to protect the pad 12 from abrasion. The bag 36 is bonded to the first surface 24, the second surface 26 and the peripheral surface 28 with an adhesive or the like. The bag 36 may be comprised of leather or the like.

[0022] In use, the pad 12 is positioned between the quarterback 18's non throwing arm 14 and the quarterback 18's torso 16 to train for throwing a football 22. The non throwing arm 14 is positioned in the channel 20 such that the non throwing arm 14 is retained at approximately a right angle. The non throwing arm 14 is compressed against the pad 12 when the football 22 is thrown. In this way the core muscles in the torso 16 are engaged and muscles in the non-throwing arm are engaged. Thus, the engaged core muscles enhance velocity and accuracy with respect to throwing the football 22.

[0023] With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

[0024] Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word "comprising" is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article "a" does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
