Abstract:
A descending spiral sink drain hole insert is comprised of a ring, an
attached descending, circular spiral, and preferably (but not
necessarily) a metallic material. This ring sits flush against a sink
surface, suspending the spiral inside of a sink drain hole, where it
allows waste and water to drain downward, yet shields any splattering
debris from resurging when a garbage disposal unit is operated. The
preferably metallic material would be ideal for easy-cleaning, sturdy
quality, dirt-resistance, and easy handling.Claims:
1. A ring sits flush against the sink instead of having to insert entire
unit into sink drain hole, which suspends attached spiral inside sink
drain hole and allows entire unit to be easily removed and reinserted and
prevents unit from falling into drain hole and/or disposal unit.
2. The circular, descending spiral rests inside of the sink drain hole and allows waste and debris to drain downward but provides 360-degree protection from debris splattering back up.
3. Unit is intended to be constructed from a sturdy, heat-resistant, dishwasher-safe, dirt-resistant, and easy-to-clean material, but by no means does it have to abide by these construction parameters, neither must it have to look as illustrated and can be assembled as necessary to be any size, material, shape, or angle as long as it utilizes the concept of being able to drain from above and block anything from below.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0001] To whom it may concern, I, William Ratledge, have invented a concept to help solve problems associated with the use of garbage disposal units. These disposal units, when operated, tend to splash and splatter waste and debris in random directions. My invention simply eliminates the inconvenience of this occurrence. It also provides a person with its own conveniences regarding its own handling and cleaning. This invention concept is intended mostly as a device that will be used inside of a sink drain's opening over an installed garbage disposal unit, but is by no means limited to this specific application. This specification includes all possible variations of specified concept (not just the proposed best version and/or included illustrations) and covers all possible utilizations modifying or mimicking the specified descending spiral (and attached ring), regardless of the scale, proportions, angle, constructive material, and/or any other variation/detail that may be modified or copied.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0002] The point of this concept is for this device to fit into the sink drain's hole opening that waste, water, and debris travel through in a standard sink (typically in a house's kitchen) where a garbage disposal unit would be installed directly below this drain hole opening. The attached ring would allow a descending spiral to sit directly in between the circular wall of a sink drain hole by (the ring itself) sitting flush against the surface of the sink. The descending spiral would then sit suspended in between the sink drain hole's circular wall. This descending spiral will allow any appropriately sized waste to drain down on top of this spiral and eventually into the sink hole. When a disposal unit is operated underneath installed invention, any splattering food, waste, water, and other debris will be completely contained by the circular design of the descending spiral. Thus, any person(s) operating the disposal unit is (are) completely shielded from specified debris/waste. The entire unit is easily removable to allow the drainage of abnormally sized waste. The unit's construction would ideally be made of durable, easy-to-clean, dishwasher-resistant material to maximize efficiency with cleaning and dirt-resistance.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0006] Referencing FIG. 1, the ring 1 is attached to the descending spiral 2. This ring 1 sits flush against a sink surface and allows the spiral 2 to descend in the sink drain hole opening. The unit installed into a sink hole is shown in FIG. 3, where 3 designates the thick-line shaded area as the sink and 4 (shaded with thin lines) is the actual circular wall that is the sink drain hole in which the spiral 2 rests suspended by the unit's ring 1.
[0007] The spiral 2 will allow waste to drain on/down it in a descending manner to its bottom edge where this waste will fall into the garbage disposal unit. Ideally, this spiral 2 would be made of metal and possibly coated with non-stick material. The entire unit (the ring 1 and the spiral 2) would ideally be made of a sturdy, dishwasher-resistant, non-stick material for maximum efficiency with dirt-resistance and easy cleaning. All possible variations of this design are still included with this concept, however, regardless of what would ideally perform its function the best. This spiral 2 will then shield the operator of the garbage disposal unit from splattering waste, water, and debris with its 360-degree coverage over the sink drain hole and garbage disposal unit.
