BOLT ACTION AR15 BARREL NUT

Abstract

This invention is for a bolt action barrel lock nut with standard AR15, M16, and M4 connection point. This will allow the modularity, customization and weight savings of the standard AR15 to extend to the popular bolt action rifles that utilize barrel lock nuts. This barrel lock nut will allow the use of handguards/rails that connect utilizing the standard AR15 barrel nut that is shaped like a cog and depicted in the attached notional drawings. The barrel nut would also allow the use of a standard AR15 barrel wrench or a Savage style barrel wrench.

DRAWING DESCRIPTION

[0001] This nut is depicted in the diagram for application on a standard shank savage barrel. The same style nut would find utility in being applied to many other rifles. The nut can be seen in a profile view in the attached drawing.

BACKGROUND

[0002] Barrel lock nuts are used on a number of bolt action rifles. Perhaps the most popular are that of the Savage and the Remington 700 aka "Remage" rifles. These rifles utilize a barrel lock nut that enables the installation of barrels onto the receiver without necessitating a gunsmith. This lends itself to armory level and field installations of barrels. This barrel lock nut is nothing new; however, could use a few improvements.

[0003] The proliferation of AR15 components and tools encourages the standardization of weapons platforms. One such standardization would be the use of a standard AR15 barrel wrench. Another is that of the standardized AR15 handguard connection. There are numerous lightweight, customizable and battle ready handguards already available. This invention would enable both the use of the standard AR15 armorers' wrench as well as the capability to attach any of the currently available AR15 handguards.

Claims

1. The attachment of AR15, M16, and M4 styled handguards to bolt action receivers utilizing a barrel lock nut regardless of receiver size, thread or manufacturer.
