Cane Holding Device

Abstract

A cane holding device securable to a wearer's belt. The cane holding device includes a panel having a tubular member thereon, wherein the upper end and lower end of the tubular member are open. A cane can be positioned through the tubular member and the tubular member is sized to allow the elongated rod of the cane to pass therethrough while preventing the handle from passing therethrough. The upper end of the panel includes a loop through which a user's belt can be threaded in order to secure the cane holding device onto the user. Alternatively, the upper end may include mating fasteners adapted to form a loop for removable securement to the user's belt or other similar area of the user's body or garments.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Field of the Invention

[0002] The present invention relates to a cane holding device. More specifically, the present invention provides a cane holding device removably securable to a user's belt so as to suspend a cane along the user's body when not in use. The cane holding device comprises a panel having a loop at an upper end thereof through which a belt can be threaded. The panel further includes a tubular member thereon through which the elongated rod portion of the cane can be positioned. The handle is prevented from passing through the tubular member such that the cane is suspended therein.

[0003] Many people rely on a cane to assist with walking in order to help support the weight of the user's body and to help the user balance while walking. However, a cane does not need to be used at all times, and the user must have a place to store the cane. While sitting, the user may rest the cane on the floor beneath a chair of table. The cane can be difficult to retrieve from the floor when the user wishes to stand up again. Further, a cane can potentially be forgotten or lost if it is left on the floor beneath a table or chair. Thus, a device for supporting a cane on the user's body for providing the user with convenient storage and access thereto is desired.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0004] In view of the disadvantages inherent in the known types of cane holding devices now present in the prior art, the present invention provides a new cane holding device wherein the same can be utilized for providing convenience for the user when storing a cane on the user's body for convenient access thereto.

[0005] It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved cane holding device comprising a panel having a loop that can be suspended on a user's belt, and further including a tubular member in which the elongated portion of a cane can be positioned.

[0006] It is another object of the present invention to provide a cane holding device that can be removably secured onto the user's belt.

[0007] Another object of the present invention is to provide a cane holding device comprising a loop adapted to removably engage a belt, wherein the loop comprises fasteners for opening and closing the loop.

[0008] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a cane holding device composed of a durable fabric material.

[0009] Another object of the present invention is to provide a cane holding device that may be readily fabricated from materials that permit relative economy and are commensurate with durability.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0016] Reference is made herein to the attached drawings. Like reference numerals are used throughout the drawings to depict like or similar elements of the cane holding device. For the purposes of presenting a brief and clear description of the present invention, the preferred embodiment will be discussed as used for securely storing a cane or similar object on the user's person. The figures are intended for representative purposes only and should not be considered to be limiting in any respect.

[0017] Referring now to FIGS. 1 and 2, there is shown a perspective view of an embodiment of the cane holding device and a side view of an embodiment of the cane holding device, respectively. The cane holding device 11 comprises a panel 12 having an upper end 14 and a lower end 13. The panel 12 is preferably composed of fabric, such as nylon or leather, among other suitable materials. The panel 12 is substantially flat and planar so that it can rest flat against the user. Preferably, the panel 12 is substantially rectangular in configuration.

[0018] The upper end 14 of the panel 12 comprises a loop having an opening 15 therethrough. The opening 15 is arranged in a horizontal orientation. The opening 15 is suited for receiving a belt therethrough in order to suspend the cane holding device 11 onto the belt. In this way, the device can be easily secured to the user. The loop can be formed by folding the panel 12 and securing a first portion of the panel to another portion of the panel. In an alternate embodiment, the loop is permanently formed into the upper end 14 of the panel 12.

[0019] A tubular member 16 is secured to the front of the panel 12. The tubular member 16 includes an open upper end 17 and an open lower end 18. A rear portion 19 of the tubular member 16 is affixed to the panel 12. The tubular member 16 is affixed via any suitable fastening means such as by stitching, adhesives, or via fasteners, such as staples. The tubular member 16 is disposed in a vertical orientation so that an object, such as a cane, can be supported in a vertical orientation therein.

[0020] Referring now to FIG. 3, there is shown a side view of an alternate embodiment of the cane holding device. In some embodiments, the loop can be opened and closed via fasteners disposed on the panel 12. The upper end 14 of the panel 12 includes a first fastener 20 adapted to removably engage with a second fastener 21 disposed on the rear of the panel 12. When the fasteners 20, 21 are secured together, a loop is formed on the upper end of the panel 12. In this way, the user can easily secure the cane holding device 11 onto a belt, and can easily remove the cane holding device 11 from the belt when it is no longer needed. The fasteners 20, 21 comprise any suitable mating fasteners, such as snaps or magnets, among others.

[0021] Referring now to FIG. 4, there is shown a perspective view of the cane holding device as secured to a user's belt. In operation, the user can thread a belt 31 through the loop on the upper end 14 of the panel 12. The belt 31 can be threaded through the loop of the cane holding device 11 similarly to how a belt 31 is threaded through a belt loop on a pair of pants. The cane holding device 11 is then securely positioned on the belt, and the panel 12 extends perpendicularly to the belt 31. The tubular member 16 on the panel 12 is disposed in a vertical orientation when the cane holding device 11 is suspended on the belt 31. A cane, umbrella, or other similar object can be inserted through the tubular member 16 so that it extends through the upper end 17 and out of the lower end 18 of the tubular member 16. The tubular member 16 is sized so that the elongated rod 43 of the cane 41 can extend therethrough, and so that the handle 42 of the cane 41 cannot pass therethrough. In this way, the cane 41 extends vertically downward from the cane holding device 11 and is positioned alongside of the user's leg. This allows the user to conveniently store the cane 41 when it is not in use, such as when the user is sitting. The user also has convenient access to the cane 41 when the user wishes to resume use thereof.

[0022] It is therefore submitted that the instant invention has been shown and described in what is considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art. With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.

Claims

1) A cane holding device, comprising: a panel having an upper end and a lower end; a loop having an opening therethrough, wherein said loop is disposed on said upper end and is adapted to receive a belt therethrough; a tubular member disposed on said panel, said tubular member having an open upper end and an open lower end such that a cane can be inserted through said tubular member.

2) The cane holding device of claim 1, wherein said panel is substantially planar.

3) The cane holding device of claim 1, wherein said loop is permanently affixed to said upper end of said panel.

4) The cane holding device of claim 1, wherein said loop is removably formed by securing a pair of mating fasteners disposed on said panel.

5) The cane holding device of claim 4, wherein said mating fasteners are magnets.

6) The cane holding device of claim 1, wherein said tubular member is sized so as to allow a rod portion of said cane to extend therethrough while preventing a handle of said cane from passing therethrough.

7) The cane holding device of claim 1, wherein said panel is composed of fabric.
