RELATED APPLICATIONS
[0001] This application claims the benefit under 35 U.S.C. §119(e) of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62/008,267, titled COAT ASSEMBLY WITH REMOVABLE HAND PROTECTORS, filed Jun. 5, 2014, which is hereby incorporated by reference herein in its entirety.
TECHNICAL FIELD
[0002] The present disclosure relates generally to assemblies or garments comprising an outer garment and hand protectors. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to coats wherein hand protectors are removably couplable to the outer garment.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0003] The embodiments disclosed herein will become more fully apparent from the following description and appended claims, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings. The drawings depict only typical embodiments, which embodiments will be described with additional specificity and detail in connection with the drawings in which:
[0004] FIG. 1 is a front elevation view of a garment assembly, according to one embodiment of the present disclosure, in an uncoupled configuration; and
[0005] FIG. 2 is a front elevation view of the garment assembly of FIG. 1 in a coupled configuration.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0006] Gloves, mittens, and other hand protectors are worn to protect hands from an environment around them. It may be challenging or difficult to keep hand protectors on the hands of small children or toddlers. The present disclosure provides embodiments of systems and methods that may allow parents or caretakers of small children or toddlers to securely couple hand protectors to other outerwear, such as a coat. When the hand protectors are not desired or needed, however, the parent or caretaker may completely uncouple and detach the hand protectors from the coat portion. Upon decoupling or detachment of the hand protectors, the hand protectors may be stored in another location, when not in use, or the hand protectors may be interchanged with different hand protectors as desired or needed (e.g., gloves instead of mittens).
[0007] The disclosed coat assemblies and garments may include a coat portion, which may be used and may function well without any hand protectors, as desired. The hand protectors can be completely decoupled from the coat portion, which can allow the user to avoid, for example, a potential nuisance of the hand protectors dangling from the coat portion, snagging objects in the vicinity of the coat portion (e.g., tree branches), and/or potentially tearing the coat portion. The disclosed coat assemblies and garments may also allow or permit a user to interchange the hand protectors with other compatible hand protectors if the user desires or needs a different size, color, or style of hand protectors. For example, thicker hand protectors may be more suitable in cold weather and thinner hand protectors may be more suitable in cool weather. Also, as the hand protectors are completely removable from the coat portion, a damaged or otherwise unsuitable hand protector may be replaced with another hand protector without having to replace the coat assembly.
[0008] In various embodiments of the present disclosure, the hand protectors may be removably couplable to the coat portion via a zipper. A zipper may be advantageous as a coupling or attachment mechanism. A zipper can be durable, easy to use, and/or stylish. The zipper may be relatively weather resistant. The zipper can be aesthetically blended with the coat portion and the hand protectors. Additionally, a zipper can generate a strong, secure attachment or coupling between the hand protectors and the coat portion, that can also allow decoupling of the hand protectors from the coat portion.
[0009] It will be readily understood that the components of the embodiments as generally described and illustrated in the Figures herein could be arranged and designed in a wide variety of different configurations. Thus, the following more detailed description of various embodiments, as represented in the Figures, is not intended to limit the scope of the disclosure, but is merely representative of various embodiments. While the various aspects of the embodiments are presented in drawings, the drawings are not necessarily drawn to scale unless specifically indicated.
[0010] The phrase "coupled to" as used herein refers to an interaction between two or more entities that secures the one or more entities in position relative to each other. Two components may be coupled to each other even though they are not in direct contact with each other. For example, two components may be coupled to each other through an intermediate component. The term "couplable to" as used herein refers to one or more entities being configured to be coupled to one another.
[0011] The terms "proximal" and "distal" are used herein to refer to a position relative to a center portion of an individual when the disclosed garment is being worn by the individual. The proximal end of a portion of the garment is defined as the end of the portion of the garment closest to the center portion of the individual wearing the garment. The distal end is the end opposite the proximal end, or the end furthest from the center portion of the individual wearing the garment.
[0012] The term "coat" is used broadly throughout this disclosure to refer to a variety of outer garments comprising sleeves that cover at least portion of an upper portion of a body. Other terms that may be encompassed by the term "coat" as used herein include, but are not limited to, jackets, parkas, tunics, etc.
[0013] The term "hand protector" is used broadly throughout this disclosure to refer to a variety of garments used to cover a hand. Other terms that may be encompassed by the term "hand protector" as used herein include, but are not limited to, gloves, mittens, etc.
