BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0005] The invention relates generally to board games and in particular to a solitaire peg jumping game. Even in the age of video games and cable television, travelers and families can sometimes be challenged to find a new and entertaining pastime. A game device which is used to play a solitaire peg jumping game would fulfill this demand. The game functions by requiring the user to jump pegs, where the one jumped is removed and the user continues jumping until one peg remains. The design is in a special shape and has a particular configuration. The invention can be produced in a travel size to support portability for traveling allowing the users more opportunity to use the game.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0006] Accordingly, the invention is directed to a game device which is used to play a solitaire peg jumping game, and a method of playing the game. The game functions by requiring the user to jump pegs, where the jumped pegs are removed, and the user continues jumping until one peg remains. The design is in a particular hexagonal shape, which can be produced in a travel size to support portability for traveling.
[0007] Additional features and advantages of the invention will be set forth in the description which follows, and will be apparent from the description, or may be learned by practice of the invention. The foregoing general description and the following detailed description are exemplary and explanatory and are intended to provide further explanation of the invention.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING
[0008] The accompanying drawing is included to provide a further understanding of the invention and is incorporated into and constitutes a part of the specification. It illustrates one embodiment of the invention and, together with the description, serves to explain the principles of the invention.
[0009] FIG. 1 shows a perspective view of the first exemplary embodiment, displaying the base 10, the pegs 11, the holes 12, the container 13, and the lid 14.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0010] Referring now to the invention in more detail, the invention is directed to a game device which is used to play a solitaire peg jumping game. The game functions by requiring the user to jump pegs 11. The user may jump any number of pegs in a single linear direction. The peg or pegs 11 which have been jumped are removed and placed in a container 13. The user continues jumping until one peg 11 remains. The design is in a hexagonal shape as shown, which can be produced in a travel size to support portability for traveling. A lid 14 is provided for the container 13, for storage and traveling.
[0011] The playing area preferably consists of nineteen holes 12 which have been drilled or molded into a base 10. The holes 12 may extend all of the way, or part of the way through the base 10. Nineteen pegs 11 are also provided with the game; eighteen of the holes would preferably be provided in a first color or pattern and the remaining one peg would preferably be provided in a different or contrasting color or pattern, though only eighteen pegs would be in use at any given time as one hole would remain un-filled in any configuration. The holes 12 are drilled in a hexagonal pattern and spaced equidistantly from each other such that three holes 12 are along each side of an equilateral hexagon, and five holes 12 form a straight line joining opposing corners of the hexagon. To use the device, the user sets up the game by placing one peg 11 into each hole 12 in the base 10, until one empty hole 12 remains, at one corner of the hexagon. The user then jumps pegs 11, each time moving a peg 11 over one or more other adjacent pegs 11 and landing the first peg 11 in an empty hole 12. The user removes the pegs 11 which were jumped, placing them in the container 13 provided. The user then continues to jump pegs 11 and remove them in the same manner. If the user is eventually able to jump and remove all of the pegs 11 except one, the game has been won.
[0012] Several levels of the game may be offered such as beginner and expert. In the beginner level game, the user may jump any number of pegs 11 with one jump, as long as they are in a straight line and all are adjacent to each other. In another embodiment of the expert level game, the off-color peg 11 is placed in one of the peg positions and only the off-color peg may be used to jump. Rules for the game may be printed on a peel and stick label and affixed to the exterior of the container 13, for the convenience of the user or to aid in reducing costs of manufacturing.
[0013] The base 10, the pegs 11, the container 13, and the lid 14 would preferably be manufactured from rigid, durable materials such as wood, plastic, steel, brass, aluminum, or malacrylate.
[0014] Components, component sizes, and materials listed above are preferable, but artisans will recognize that alternate components and materials could be selected without altering the scope of the invention.
[0015] While the foregoing written description of the invention enables one of ordinary skill to make and use what is presently considered to be the best mode thereof, those of ordinary skill in the art will understand and appreciate the existence of variations, combinations, and equivalents of the specific embodiment, method, and examples herein. The invention should, therefore, not be limited by the above described embodiment, method, and examples, but by all embodiments and methods within the scope and spirit of the invention.
