Abstract:

A water hat having a body portion with an elastic rim is provided. The body portion may be made of a nylon and spandex mix and the rim may be made of a stretchable rubber. The water hat may further include a brim. The water hat may be worn during water sports and other activities and may remain secured to the head due to the elastic properties.

Claims:

1. A water hat comprising: a body portion forming an internal cavity formed to fit over a users' head, wherein the body portion comprises an edge forming an opening leading into the internal cavity, wherein the body portion comprises a polymer material; a rim formed around the edge of the body portion, wherein the rim comprises a stretchable elastic material; and a brim extending from at least a portion of the edge of the body portion.

2. The water hat of claim 1, wherein the material of the body portion is water resistant.

3. The water hat of claim 1, wherein the material of the body portion comprises at least one of nylon and spandex.

4. The water hat of claim 1, wherein the brim is made of a foam material.

5. The water hat of claim 1, wherein the rim is made of rubber.

6. The water hat of claim 5, wherein the rubber rim is woven into the edge of the body portion.

7. The water hat of claim 1, wherein the body portion is formed by a first side panel, a second side panel, and a middle panel, wherein the first side panel is connected to the middle panel by a first seam, and the second side panel is connected to the middle panel by a second seam.

8. The water hat of claim 1, wherein the body portion comprises a material having an ultraviolet protection factor of fifty and above.

Description:

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

[0001] This application claims the benefit of priority of U.S. provisional application No. 61/827,423, filed May 24, 2013, the contents of which are herein incorporated by reference.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] The present invention relates to a hat and, more particularly, to hat for water sports and other activities.

[0003] A hat is a head covering. It can be worn for protection against the elements. A baseball cap may include an extending brim to protect the wearer form the sun. However, the hat may not stay on during active play or activities, such as in the water or on a boat. Further, when baseball caps become wet, the hat becomes misshapen and uncomfortable to wear.

[0004] As can be seen, there is a need for an improved hat for water sports and other activities.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0005] In one aspect of the present invention, a water hat comprises: a body portion forming an internal cavity formed to fit over a users' head, wherein the body portion comprises an edge forming an opening leading into the internal cavity, wherein the body portion comprises a polymer material; a rim formed around the edge of the body portion, wherein the rim comprises a stretchable elastic material; and a brim extending from at least a portion of the edge of the body portion.

[0006] These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings, description and claims.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0007] FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the present invention in use;

[0008] FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the present invention;

[0009] FIG. 3 is a front view of the present invention;

[0010] FIG. 4 is a side view of the present invention; and

[0011] FIG. 5 is a cross section view of the present invention, taken along line 5-5 in FIG. 2.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0012] The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.

[0013] Broadly, an embodiment of the present invention provides a water hat having a body portion with an elastic rim. The body portion may be made of a nylon and spandex mix and the rim may be made of a stretchable rubber. The water hat may further include a brim. The water hat may be worn during water sports and other activities and may remain secured to the head due to the elastic properties.

[0014] The present invention includes a sun protection hat with a brim that may be worn in and under water. The present invention is a swim cap with a protective visor. The present invention is constructed to fit snuggly on the user's head so that the hat remains on the user's head during activities, such as swimming, boating, running, or during a windy day.

[0015] Referring to FIGS. 1 through 5, the present invention includes a water hat 10. The water hat 10 includes a body portion 11. The body portion 11 forms an internal cavity formed to fit over a user's 24 head. The body portion 11 further includes an edge forming an opening leading into the internal cavity. The body portion 11 may be made of a compression and water resistant material, such as a polymer. For example, the material may be nylon, spandex or a combination thereof. In certain embodiments, the body portion 11 is made of a material having an ultraviolet protection factor of fifty and above.

[0016] The present invention includes a rim 14. The rim 14 is formed around the edge of the body portion 11. The rim 14 is made of a stretchable elastic material. For example, the rim 14 may be made of an elastic rubber band. Therefore, the rim 14 may secure the hat 10 on the user's 24 head. The rubber rim 14 may be woven into the edge of the body portion 11.

[0017] The present invention includes a brim 12 extending from at least a portion of the edge of the body portion 11. For example, the brim 12 may extend from the entire edge of the body portion 11. The brim 12 may be a visor for protecting the eyes of the user 24 from the sun. In certain embodiments, the brim 12 may be made of a compressible material, such as foam. The foam may be sewn into a material that is made of the same material as the body portion 11.

[0018] As illustrated in the Figures, the body portion 11 may be made of multiple panels 18, 20, 22 sewn together. For example, the body portion 11 may be made of a first side panel 18, a second side panel 22, and a middle panel 20. The first side panel 18 may be connected to the middle panel 20 by a first seam 16, and the second side panel 22 may be connected to the middle panel 20 by a second seam 16.

[0019] A method of making the present invention may include the following. The hat may be sewn using spandex/nylon material with an elastic band insert sewn into the edge so that the spandex nylon material may securely cover the users head. The visor or brim may be stitched to the spandex, nylon material during the manufacturing process.

[0020] It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
