Abstract:

A device to protect surfaces from heat created by personal appliances comprises a plate, a plurality of feet connected to the plate comprising a heat transfer retardant material, and a powder covering the plate.

Claims:

1. A device to protect surfaces from heat created by personal appliances, comprising: a plate; a plurality of feet connected to the plate comprising a heat transfer retardant material; and a powder covering the plate.

2. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the plate comprises metal.

3. The device as claimed in claim 2, wherein the plate comprises aluminum.

4. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the plate comprises a hole for mounting to a surface.

5. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the plurality of feet comprises rubber.

6. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the plurality of feet comprises cork.

7. A method of protecting surfaces from heat created by personal appliances, comprising: providing the device as claimed in claim 1; placing the device on a surface; providing a personal appliance having a temperature in excess of 200 degrees Fahrenheit; and placing the personal appliance on the device.

Description:

REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

[0001] This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 61/678,643, filed Aug. 2, 2012, entitled "THERMALLY RESISTANT RAISED PLATFORM."

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] The present invention relates to a plate or piece to protect a surface from heat created by straighteners and curling irons.

[0003] If a curling iron or straightener is left on it, there is concern of damage to the surface area. Other existing items only protects up to 200 degrees.

[0004] As can be seen, there is a need for solutions to these and other problems.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0005] In one aspect of the present invention, a device to protect surfaces from heat created by personal appliances comprises: a plate; a plurality of feet connected to the plate comprising a heat transfer retardant material; and a powder covering the plate.

[0006] In one aspect, the plate comprises metal. In one aspect, the plate comprises aluminum. In one aspect, the plate comprises a hole for mounting to a surface. In one aspect, the plurality of feet comprises rubber. In one aspect, the plurality of feet comprises cork.

[0007] In one aspect, a method of protecting surfaces from heat created by personal appliances comprises: providing the device as described; placing the device on a surface; providing a personal appliance having a temperature in excess of 200 degrees Fahrenheit; and placing the personal appliance on the device.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0014] The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention.

[0015] Referring now to the figures, the following reference numbers may refer to elements of the invention:

[0017] 12: is the curling iron.

[0018] 14: are the feet.

[0019] 16: is the powder coating.

[0020] 18: is the counter/vanity top.

[0021] 20: is the hole for a hook or wall mount.

[0022] The device according to one embodiment of the present invention helps to avoid vanity top, dresser tops, table top burn marks. The device according to one embodiment of the present invention protects a surface from heat damage due to hair (or other) appliances left on and laying on a surface without protection.

[0023] The device according to one embodiment of the present invention may include one or more of the following:

[0024] Plate of dimensions 1/8 inch thick×5 inch wide×12 inches long (which may be made out of any rigid material, such as metal (e.g., aluminum)) or any size material in the range of 1/16 inch to 1/2 inch thick by 3 inches to 12 inches wide by 8 inches to 16 inches long.

[0025] Powder coating all surfaces of the plate but could be coated one to four sides with any type of decorative coating, or plain, any color of coating.

[0026] Spacer or feet made of self adhesive rubber that may be 1/8 inch thick X 1 inch in diameter, which could be made from plastic, cork, wood, foam or any such material which would elevate the plate and insulate heat from the surface.

[0027] The device according to one embodiment of the present invention will be described here. The aluminum plate which is powder coated, and feet when used together, create a safe place for a straightener or curling iron to lay while in use, which if not turned off in a timely manner would protect the surface on which it is placed from being burned.

[0028] Use of the device according to one embodiment of the present invention may include the following steps. Place the plate on a surface, vanity top, dresser, floor, or anywhere one uses a straightener, curling iron, or other personal appliance. Lay the hot or cool device on the plate while plugged in to avoid burn marks.

[0029] It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
