Patent application title: Mobile Computing Device Stand

Inventors:  Arthur William Moffa (Apopka, FL, US)
IPC8 Class: AA47B9708FI
USPC Class: 248459
Class name: Supports easel; book, copy or music score holder folded blank
Publication date: 2012-12-13
Patent application number: 20120312953

Abstract:

A collapsible, single sheet, folded template design for a Mobile Computing Device Stand. Built from a single sheet of card stock or laminated paper-like material, this structure is capable of holding a mobile computing device in an upright position for stationary use on a flat surface like a table or desk. The design can accommodate cutouts for device inputs and device buttons on side flaps that conform to the width and layout of specific devices. The design lends itself to a low-cost, lightweight, collapsible, and fastener-free triangular frame with a reinforcing bend slightly from the top that provides back strength to support finger-initiated navigation required from a touch screen device. The front edge of the template sheet folds back into itself to allow for a front panel flap and the triangular device stand shape with side flaps.

Claims:

1. A collapsible, single sheet Mobile Computing Device Stand derived from folded card stock/laminated paper-like material comprising: A single sheet of template cut card stock or laminated paper-like material having a specific pattern that when folded to specification results in a triangular device stand with a front flap and side flaps to support the front and sides of the mobile computing device; whereby single sheet means derived from one continuous sheet which requires no assembly of parts, fastening, or adhesives folded to specification means that the single sheet is bent at specified locations according to the pattern which creates the triangular device stand triangular device stand means the front edge of the template sheet folds back into itself to allow for a front panel flap and the triangular device stand shape with side flaps. The stand's shape is enforced by a slit flap on the back edge of the sheet which serves as the bottom of the stand. slit flap means a horizontal cutout flap near the end of the sheet that when folded upward can support the front edge of the sheet

2. said Mobile Computing Device Stand is made of a paper or paper-like structure so that in the rest position, a flattened sheet-like structure is provided, and in a raised position, a Mobile Computing Device Stand is provided by said folding means, said triangular device stand means, and said back slit means to hold the shape of the stand.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0004] There are several Mobile Computing Device Stands that are available to the Mobile Computing Device market but due to the variety of device specifications, most Mobile Computing Device Stands are specifically built to each device manufacturer.

[0005] In addition to their specific conformity by device brand, these stands are often comprised of materials that are far more costly than that of card stock or laminated paper-like material which results in a higher cost to the consumer.

[0006] Furthermore, the existing Mobile Computing Device Stands in the industry lend little ability for low cost personalization whereas a paper-like structure can be multicolored, incorporate printed images/logos, and be easily replaced/disposable.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0007] This invention relates to a Mobile Computing Device Stand for positioning a Mobile Computing Device on a base of installation such as desk or table characterized in that all its components are designed from a single sheet of paper-like material, enabling low-cost production.

[0008] This Mobile Computing Device Stand holds the back and lower end of the Mobile Computing Device with the triangular back rest and front panel flap which gets in standing state by upward folding formed at the front end of the triangular section to be in contact with the back and base of the Mobile Computing Device.

[0009] Comprised of a single piece of sheet-like material makes it possible to realize low-cost production by eliminating the need for multiple pieces, fasteners, or adhesives. Moreover, the width of said triangular section may vary and thereby solidly support Mobile Computing Devices of many different widths.

[0010] Furthermore, when this Mobile Computing Device is out of use, it can be flattened into a compact sheetlike shape.

BRIEF EXPLANATION OF IMAGES

[0011] FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the Mobile Computing Device Stand in the raised state.

[0012] FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the Mobile Computing Device Stand in the flattened state.

[0013] FIG. 3 is a side view of the Mobile Computing Device Stand in the raised state.

[0014] FIG. 4 is a sectional view in the state where the slit flap is engaged.

[0015] FIG. 5 is a reference image of the state of use.

[0016] FIG. 6 is a sectional view in the state where the side flaps of the Mobile Computing Device Stand.

[0017] FIG. 7 is a plan view in the flattened state indicating the design of the Mobile Computing Device Stand.

EXAMPLE

[0018] An example of this invention will be described in detail based on the images hereafter.

[0019] FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the Mobile Computing Device Stand in the raised state. As shown in this drawing, the Mobile Computing Device Stand gets in the shape fit for use when the front edge of the template sheet folds back into itself to allow for a front panel flap and the triangular device stand shape with side flaps. The stand's shape is enforced by a slit flap on the back edge of the sheet which serves as the bottom of the stand.

[0020] FIG. 2. Is a perspective view of the Mobile Computing Device Stand in the flattened state. When uncoupled from the slit flap the entire structure resembles a long rectangle with modified edges on one end. This can be folded over at existing folds to collapse to a flattened, folder-like shape that can be easily stowed away or carried.

[0021] FIG. 3 is a side view of the Mobile Computing Device Stand in the raised state. This exhibits the front panel flap and the groove it creates that cradles the Mobile Computing Device.

[0022] FIG. 4 is a sectional view in the state where the slit flap is engaged. The image demonstrates how the overall shape of the Mobile Computing Device Stand is enforced when the front edge of the template sheet folds back into the slit flap.

[0023] FIG. 5 is a reference image of the state of use. In this image a 10.1 Inch display Mobile Computing Device is cradled in the Mobile Computing Device Stand.

[0024] FIG. 6 is a sectional view in the state where the side flaps of the Mobile Computing Device Stand exist. The side flaps lend additional strength to the Mobile Computing Device Stand and can accommodate cutouts for device inputs and device buttons on side flaps that conform to the width and layout of specific devices.

[0025] FIG. 7 is a plan view in the flattened state indicating the template design of the Mobile Computing Device Stand. In this example, a 263/4''×12'' template is shown (accommodates a 10.1'' display Mobile Computing Device).
