Paint Brush Genie

Abstract

The Paint Brush Genie provides a clean alternative to wrapping soiled paint brushes in paper until there is time to clean them. It is a simple device designed to keep soiled paint brushes hanging from a rod with their bristles suspended in liquid until the brushes can be thoroughly cleaned. Both, brushes and cleaning liquids, are securely contained in a lidded bucket. The user simply places the Paint Brush Genie in a bucket, threads the soiled brushes onto the rod and adds enough liquid cleaning solution of choice to cover the brush bristles.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] This invention is a useful tool for house painters, as it aims to extend the life of paint brushes and therefore saves the user replacement costs. It is a very simple tool related to no other inventions than the ordinary paint brush.

[0003] The Paint Brush Genie addresses the issue of delay between use of the brush and clean-up time. If the time between the two processes is too long, paint will start to dry on the brush.

[0004] Dried-on paint renders the brush useless or--in the best case scenario--prolongs the clean up time a great deal. The Paint Brush Genie not only saves the user from having to keep purchasing new brushes, it also benefits the environment by allowing many more re-uses of the brush. It provides users with the option of cleaning the brushes at their convenience, instead of either rushing to clean them or else throwing ruined brushes away.

[0005] The Paint Brush Genie is a device that fits into a standard five gallon bucket and is used to suspend paint brushes in liquid. The proto-type is constructed from metal. The Paint Brush Genie can be constructed out of rust-resistant metal or plastic or any other material that will not deteriorate when submerged in liquid and be manufactured in different sizes to fit differently sized buckets.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0011] The Paint Brush Genie is a device that fits into a standard five gallon bucket to suspend paint brushes in liquid. This device may be constructed from rust-resistant metal or plastic or any other material that will not deteriorate when submerged in liquid. The proto-type as shown in pictures 1, 2, 3 & 4 is constructed from metal.

[0012] The purpose of the device is to keep soiled paint brushes hanging from a rod with the bristles suspended in liquid until they can be thoroughly cleaned and thereby prevents premature hardening of paint in the brush.

[0013] The proto-type of the Paint Brush Genie is designed to hold standard paint brushes up to 11 inches tall.

[0014] It is designed to securely sit on the bottom of a five gallon bucket. The bottom support is a circle with a perimeter measuring ten inches to prevent the device from tipping over. The bottom support circle has two side supports which extend 12 inches upward. The top of each support is fashioned into hooks to hold the horizontal rod from which the paint brushes are suspended. This rod slides out and threads through the holes on the paint brush handle, thereby securely suspending the bristles just inches from the bucket bottom.

[0015] The bucket is filled with just enough cleaning liquid (either water or paint thinner, depending on the kind of cleaning agent needed) to allow the submerged brush bristles to gently sway in the liquid. If carried in a moving vehicle, the swaying motion from the vehicle movements will act as an additional cleaning aid. The closed bucket lid effectively protects the liquid from spilling.

[0016] The measurements of the device can be changed to fit smaller buckets as well. Manufacturing it to fit into five gallon buckets would work best for the professional house painting industry.

Claims

1. A device that fits into a standard five gallon bucket, and is used to suspend paint brushes in a liquid solution to prevent hardening of the paint on the brush bristles. Suspending the brush in liquid will assist in easier clean-up of the brush and extend the useful life of the paint brush considerably. Said device can be constructed out of rust-resistant metal or plastic or any other material that will not deteriorate when submerged in liquid. The device may be manufactured in different sizes to fit differently sized containers. The device consists of a round support footing resting on the bottom of the container close enough to the side of the container to prevent tipping over. Side supports extend upward to support the horizontal rod from which the brushes are suspended. The horizontal rod slides out to allow for brushes to be threaded onto the rod, thus suspending the bristles in liquid.
