Abstract:
Chair having a backrest that is adjustable into differently-angled
positions includes a first body having a structure defining the chair
seat and support legs. A second body forms the backrest of the chair. The
lower portion of the second body projects into the inner space defined by
the first body. The lower end of the backrest is pivotally engaged to
both sides of the lower portion of the first proximal either one of its
front or back ends. The seat and the backrest respectively include
multiple elongated elements extending from the bottom to the top of the
backrest and from the back to the front of the seat. The elongated
elements of the seat and backrest interleave with each other, allowing
angular displacement of the backrest towards the front or back ends of
the seat and, resulting in different inclination angles of the backrest.Claims:
1. A chair with a backrest adjustable into differently-angled use
positions, comprising: a first body having a structure defining the seat
and the support legs of the chair, and a second body forming the backrest
of the chair, a lower portion of said second body projecting itself into
an inner space defined by the first body, being a lower end of the
backrest pivotally engaged to both sides of the lower portion of said
first body, in the proximity of either one of a front end or a back end
of the lower body, the seat and the backrest of the chair respectively
including multiple elongated elements extending from the upper end to the
lower end of the backrest and from the back end to the front end of the
seat, said elongated elements of the seat and said elongated elements of
the backrest being interleaved with each other.
2. A chair according to claim 1, where said first body has a cubic construction.
3. A chair according to claim 1, where said interleaved elongated elements are wood strips.
4. A chair according to claim 1, where said elongated elements are lengths of rope.
5. A chair according to claim 1, where said elongated elements are strips of fabric.
6. A chair according to claim 2, where said interleaved elongated elements are wood strips.
7. A chair according to claim 2, where said elongated elements are lengths of rope.
8. A chair according to claim 2, where said elongated elements are strips of fabric.
Description:
CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
[0001] This application claims the benefit of priority to Argentine Application No. 20100103764, filed Oct. 15, 2010, in its entirety.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0002] The present invention refers to a chair with a reclining backrest which is adjustable to differently-angled use positions. More particularly, the invention discloses a chair allowing the user to employ it with the backrest slightly inclined backwards, almost in a vertical position, and also with the backrest in a more inclined position as compared to the first position, according to the user's preferences or needs for a more pleasant rest or comfort.
BACKGROUND
[0003] Several types of chairs with backrests which can be markedly inclined backwards are widely known and marketed nowadays, such as, for example, the folding chairs typically used in gardens, which are easily transportable to recreational or leisure facilities, etc. However, once these chairs have been unfolded, their backrests remain at a fixed position, which is given by the chair joints. Therefore, there is a need to count with chairs having backrests which can be easily adjusted by the user to different inclination angles to a more comfortable position. This invention provides a chair having a new system for adjusting the backrest to different use positions by changing its inclination angle, which novel structural and functional features will become apparent in the description with reference to the figures illustrating one of the preferred embodiments of the present invention.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0004] The object of the present invention is to provide a chair with a backrest that is adjustable to different positions by changing its inclination angle. The chair comprises a first body which comprises a structure defining the seat and support legs of the chair, and a second body forming the backrest of the chair. The lower portion of the second body projects into the inner space defined by the first body. The lower end of the backrest is pivotally engaged to the sides of the lower portion of said first body, in the proximity of one of its ends, which can be either the front end or the back end of said first body. The seat and the backrest of the chair respectively comprise multiple elongated elements extending from the upper end to the lower end of the backrest and from the front end to the back end of the seat. Said elongated elements of the seat and the elongated elements of the backrest interleave with each other, thus allowing the backrest to be moved angularly towards any one of the front or back ends of the seat and, consequently, to adopt different backrest angles.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES
[0005] For the sake of clarity and better understanding, the object of the present invention has been illustrated in several figures representing the invention in its preferred embodiment, which is provided by way of example, where:
[0006] FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the chair according to a first use position.
[0007] FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the chair according to a second use position.
[0008] FIG. 3 is an front elevation view of the chair as shown in FIG. 1.
[0009] FIG. 4 is a plan view of the chair as shown in FIG. 2.
[0010] FIG. 5 is a side elevation view of the chair with its backrest in a normal position.
[0011] FIG. 6 is a side elevation view where the backrest is shown in the normal position and also in a backwardly inclined position.
[0012] FIG. 7 is a side elevation view in which the backrest is shown in the backwardly inclined position.
[0013] FIG. 8 is a side elevation view illustrating several chairs stacked onto each other for their transportation or storage, thus occupying a reduced space.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0014] As shown in FIGS. 1 to 7, the chair generally indicated as 10, of the present invention can have its backrest 12 arranged in two different angular positions with respect to the seat 14 by means of a simple operation by the user. As can be seen in the above-described figures, the formal components of the chair are first body 18 having a cubic base 16 and seat 14, a second body, namely flat backrest 12 which is inserted into a volume defined by the first body 18. Cubic base 16 includes support legs 22.
[0015] In the side view (FIG. 5), with the backrest 12 inclined in the second position A, the chair 10 has a total height which keeps a golden ratio with respect to a seat plane formed by seat 14, and the total volume is inscribed into a golden rectangle formed by base 16 and backrest 12.
[0016] In the plan view (FIG. 4), the backrest 12 also keeps a golden ratio with respect to the seat plane formed by seat 14, and is also circumscribed into a golden rectangle.
[0017] The constructive system comprises two lateral structural frames connected in three points. The seat plane of the chair comprises strips 24 preferably made of wood and spaced about 1 cm apart, or alternatively strips 24 may be made of lengths of rope or fabric and is included in the base structure 15.
[0018] The assembled backrest 12 is interleavingly inserted into the seat 14. When moved, the lower end 26 of the backrest 12, it will pivot and cause the backrest 12 to change its inclination angle.
[0019] Summing up, the chair of the present invention comprises a first body 18 which comprises a structure defining the seat 14 and the support legs 22 of the chair 10, and a second body forming the backrest 12 of the chair, which lower portion 26 projects itself into the inner space defined by the first body 18, being the lower end 26 of the backrest 12 pivotally engaged to the sides 22 of the lower portion of said first body 18, in the proximity of either its front end 34 or its back end 32. The seat 14 and backrest 12 respectively are made from multiple elongated elements 30 extending from the upper end 28 to the lower end 26 of the backrest 12, and multiple elongated elements 24 from the back end 32 to the front end 34 of the seat 14, being the elongated elements 24 of the seat 14, and the elongated elements 30 of the backrest 12 interleaved with each other.
