Abstract:
A protection device for a memory module comprises protective sheets that
can cover the memory. On the inner side of the protective sheet there is
an adhesive film. On the upper edge of the protective sheet there are a
flip-over clip and a flip receptor that are folded in 90 degrees. The
fastening clip for the flip-over clip can go into the clip receptor of
the flip receptor and allow the fastening on the top edges of the two
protective sheets to accommodate the memory, which is attached with an
adhesive film. It primarily has a tenon as an extension from at least one
side of the fastening clip terminal. Thus, when the fastening clip locks
into the clip receptor, there is a stop to prevent the fastened two
protective sheets from separation. Further, a notch is formed on the two
sides of the clamp leg terminal for the U-shaped fastener, so it fits
with the bump for the groove on the protective sheet, to further prevent
the detachment of the fastener. Further, in the middle of the edge of the
clamp leg there is a convex, which and the bottom edge of the groove of
the protective sheet form a gap to facilitate disassembly of the
protection device.Claims:

Description:
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0001] 1. Field of the Invention
[0002] The invention is related to a protection device for memory module. Especially, it refers to a protection device that uses a pair of protective sheets to buckle each other on their upper edges and cover the memory to protect the chip from rupture due to collision or impact.
[0003] 2. Description of the Prior Art
[0004] The configuration of memory has multiple chips on a strip of printed circuit board. To prevent the chips from rupture due to collision or impact, a protection device uses a pair of protective sheets to cover the chips from outside. If the protection device is made of metal and cushion padding with thermal insulation, it provides both protection and heat dissipation.
[0005] The protective sheets for a traditional protection device are assembled with fasteners like screws or rivets. The assembly is a little difficult. There is an assembly method that uses U-shaped clip to assemble the protection device. The "heat dissipation device for memory" in ROC patent no. 495101 is a typical example. There are a clip and a clip receptor on the heat dissipation sheets to connect the sheets. A heat dissipation adhesive film is used to attach the memory. Besides, outside the heat dissipation sheets there is a fastener that has a clip and a clip receptor to achieve fixation.
[0006] However, because the clip on the heat dissipation sheet has the same width and the clip receptor is only a little larger than the square hole of the clip, it is easy for the heat dissipation sheets to separate after they are connected. This causes difficulty in attaching the memory. Especially when the heat dissipation sheets are connected by the clip and the clip receptor, they tend to move to the sides and separate from the covered memory. This could result in lamination defect that will likely need to peel off and reattach the memory multiple times and could damage the memory chip.
[0007] Further, the traditional technique adopts a simple U-shaped design that uses a reverse clip and a clip receptor. But once they are connected, it is difficult to separate them.
[0008] Therefore, there is a need to improve the traditional heat dissipation device for memory to meet the requirements for mass production and high yield.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0009] In view of the drawbacks with the traditional heat dissipation sheets, the invention provides a protection device for memory module. It comprises a protective sheet to cover the memory. On the inner side of the protective sheet there is an adhesive film. On the upper edge of the protective sheet there are a flip-over clip and a flip receptor that are folded in 90 degrees. The fastening clip for the flip-over clip can stick into the clip receptor of the flip receptor. Thus, the upper edges of the two protective sheets are connected to accommodate the memory. An adhesive film is also used to attach the memory. The main improvement from the invention is to extend at least one tenon at the terminal of the fastening clip. Besides, the flip receptor will form two clip receptors of different width. So when the fastening clip goes into the clip receptor, the tenon will form a stop to the clip receptor of smaller width and prevents the connected two protective sheets from separation. This will further facilitate assembling the memory and increases production speed.
[0010] The invention further provides a U-shaped fastener on the protective sheet. A notch is formed on the two sides of the clamp leg terminal for the U-shaped fastener, so it fits with the bump for the groove on the protective sheet, to further prevent the detachment of the fastener.
[0011] Besides, the U-shaped fastener in the invention has a part sticking out of the middle of its clamp leg terminal and forming a gap with the bottom groove edge of the protective sheet, which facilitates a flat tool like screw driver to stick into the gap and disengage the U-shaped fastener.
[0012] Further, based on the flip-over clip with a tenon, different designs can be made for the flip-over clip and the clip receptor in different shape. For example, the tenon can be on the left, or the right, or both sides of the flip-over clip. Also a groove can be cut on the flip-over clip. All these variations can achieve fixation when the flip-over clip goes into the clip receptor.
[0013] In the following, detailed description with illustrated embodiments is provided for the structural characteristics and operational function for the invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
[0024] Please refer to FIG. 1 and FIG. 2 for the protection device for memory module. It primarily comprises a pair of protective sheets 10 to cover a memory 20. On the inner sides of the two protective sheets there are cushion adhesive films 101 to sandwich the memory 20 and therefore protect the chip on the memory 20.
[0025] On the top edge of the protective sheet 10, there are a flip-over clip 12 and a flip receptor 13 folding out in 90 degree, which can match and fasten with each other. Please refer to their partial enlargement view in FIG. 3 for detailed configuration. It is known that the front edge of the flip receptor 13 descends to form an upper section and a lower section 131 and 132. There is a clip receptor open along the two sections. The C-shaped clip receptor 134 on the lower section 132 of the flip receptor is larger than the clip receptor 133 on the upper section 131 in width and there is a two-level clip receptor.
[0026] Further, the front edge of the flip-over clip 12 also descends to form an upper section and a lower section 121 and 122. The lower section 122 forms a fastening clip. On at least one side of the fastening clip terminal there is an extension of a tenon 123, so the front edge has about the same width as the C-shaped clip receptor 134 on the lower section of the flip receptor, but has larger width than the clip receptor 133 on the upper section of the flip receptor. The non-tenon 123 part of the fastening clip 122 has smaller width than the clip receptor 133 on the upper section of the flip receptor. Please refer to FIG. 4A and FIG. 4B for the design. When the two protective sheets 10 fasten with each other, the fastening clip 122 and the tenon 123 first go into the C-shaped clip receptor 134 on the lower section of the flip receptor, and then push against the clip receptor 133 on the upper section of the smaller clip receptor 133. This fastening mechanism prevents loosening of the clip. Please refer to FIG. 4B and FIG. 4C.
[0027] On both sides of the upper section 121 of the flip-over clip there are a hinge plate 124, which in assembly pushes against the top part of the two sides of the lower section 132 of the flip receptor and therefore forms a stable three-pivot structure with the fastening clip 122.
[0028] For the invention, on a side of the front edge for the fastening clip 122 there is a tenon 123 to prevent separation after fastening the two protective sheets 10. In the assembly of the memory 20, the two protective sheets 10 can be assembled in an open shape as in FIG. 5. The memory 20 first sticks to the horizontally placed protective sheet, and then the open protective sheet is placed along the arrow G1 direction. Because of the tenon 123 providing positioning and pivoting, the open protective sheet and the memory 20 can precisely attach to each other on their top sides. Apparently, the tenon design for the invention can prevent detachment of the attached protective sheet, achieve fast assembly, increase production efficiency and lower production cost.
[0029] Especially such a design facilitates accurate positioning for memory assembly and greatly minimizes the troubles with peeling the memory due to mispositioning, and further decreases the chance of memory damage.
[0030] For the embodiments illustrated in the above figures, the tenon 123 is only on one side of the fastening clip 122. However, the tenon can be designed on either left side or right side, or on both sides.
[0031] Please refer to FIG. 6A for the first variation of the invention, which flip-over clip 42 and flip receptor 43 on the protective sheet 40 are slightly different from the previous one. The flip receptor 43 has an upper section and lower section 431 and 432. The clip receptor also has an upper section clip receptor 433 and a lower section clip receptor 434. The wider part of the lower section clip receptor 434 than the upper section clip receptor 433 has a semi-circular hole 435 on the side. The diameter for the semi-circular hole 435 is slightly larger than the thickness for the flip-over clip 42. Similar to the previous one, the front edge of the flip-over clip 42 also descends to form an upper section and a lower section 421 and 422. The lower section 422 forms a fastening clip. The fastening clip 422 terminal extends to become a tenon 423. The tenon 423 appears in semi-circle. Such a design is to shrink the wider semi-circular hole 435 for the lower section clip receptor 434 and therefore the tenon 433 does not detach when it locks into the clip receptor.
[0032] Please refer to FIG. 6B, which is similar to FIG. 6A. The only difference is that the semi-circular hole 535 and the tenon 523 are designed on the other side.
[0033] As shown in FIG. 6C, its variation is that both sides of the fastening clip 622 have the tenon 623. Correspondingly, both sides of the lower section clip receptor 634 have semi-circular holes 635. Such a design is to allow desired orientation for the fastening clip 622 to lock into the lower section clip receptor 634. Besides, the tenons 623 on both sides also secure the fastening.
[0034] Please refer to FIG. 6D for further variation of the embodiment in FIG. 6C. in the middle of the flip-over clip 72 there is a groove 724. The middle of the clip receptor of the flip receptor 72 forms a slightly narrower guider 736 than the groove 724. Such a variation in design is to allow desired orientation for the flip-over clip 72 to position and lock into the clip receptor.
[0035] The protective sheet 10 for the invention is to protect the chip on memory from rupture due to collision or impact. When the protective sheet is made of metal and the cushion padding is made of thermal insulation material, they can provide the chip with both protection and heat dissipation function.
[0036] Certainly, the protective sheet 10 for the invention can also have an external U-shaped fastener 30 as shown in FIG. 7 and FIG. 8. Two clamp legs 31 of a U-shaped fastener 30 further hold the top edges of the two protective sheets 10. At the place where the protective sheets 10 are held by the U-shaped fastener 30 there forms a groove 14 that has the same shape to the plane for the clamp leg 31 of the U-shaped fastener. The groove 14 can restrict the U-shaped fastener 30 from movement after assembly. Inside the groove 14 there forms a fastening mechanism interfering with the U-shaped fastener 30.
[0037] As shown in FIG. 8, the fastening structure is a dot 15 punched on the groove 14 of the protective sheet 10, while for the U-shaped fastener there is a punched concave 32 on the clamp leg 31. The dot 15 function is twofold: the first is to provide a slope to facilitate the locking of fastener 30 into the protective sheet; the second is to secure the locking through the interaction of the dot 15 and the concave 32.
[0038] Another point for the invention is the design of enhanced fastening for the U-shaped fastener 30. On the clamp leg 31 of the U-shaped fastener close to the terminal there forms a convergent notch 33, while the groove 14 for the protective sheet forms a bump 16 corresponding to the notch 33 to strengthen the fastening.
[0039] Further, for the U-shaped fastener 30 to open after fastening, in the middle of the edge of the clamp leg 31 for the U-shaped fastener there is a convex 34. Please refer to FIG. 9. The convex 34 and the bottom edge of the groove 14 of the protective sheet form a gap S. Such a design allows the user to insert a flat object like a screwdriver into the gap and release the U-shaped fastener 30 from the protective sheet 10 and facilitate disassembly of the protection device.
[0040] In assembly, the connection section 35 between the two clamp legs 31 for the U-shaped fastener 30 is located on the positioning tab 18 formed after pressing between the two receptors 17 on the top edge of the protective sheet 10 and used to restrict the position of the U-shaped fastener 30.
