1. A toy saddle backpack for use on the back of a user, said toy saddle
backpack comprising:a toy saddle sized to fit on said back of said user,
said toy saddle having a compartment for carrying items;at least two
straps for holding said saddle on said back of said user;a first stirrup
attached to a first side of said saddle with a first stirrup strap;a
second stirrup attached to a second side of said saddle with a second
stirrup strap, wherein said first stirrup and said second stirrup are
configured such that said first stirrup and said second stirrup can be
secured around a torso of said user.
2. The toy saddle backpack of claim 1 wherein said at least two straps comprises a first strap removably attached near a first end of a skirt of said saddle and a second strap removably attached near a second end of said skirt.
3. The toy saddle backpack of claim 1 wherein said compartment comprises a zipper across a front end of said toy saddle to allow said user to open and close said compartment.
4. The toy saddle backpack of claim 1 wherein said at least two straps comprises a first adjustable strap and a second adjustable strap wherein a first end of said first adjustable strap is attached to a front end of said toy saddle and a second end of said first adjustable strap is attached to a first side of a skirt of said saddle and wherein a first end of said second adjustable strap is attached to said front end of said toy saddle and a second end of said first adjustable strap is attached to a second side of said skirt of said saddle.
5. The toy saddle backpack of claim 1 further comprising at least one additional compartment resembling a saddle bag attached to a rear portion of said toy saddle.
6. The toy saddle backpack of claim 1 wherein said first stirrup strap and said second stirrup strap are adjustable.
7. A method of using a toy saddle comprising the steps:strapping said toy saddle to a back of a user wherein said toy saddle comprises a compartment for carrying items;using said toy saddle as a backpack; andusing said toy saddle in connection with pretending to be a horse.

The method of claim 7 wherein said toy saddle further comprises:at least two straps for holding said saddle on said back of said user;a first stirrup attached to a first side of said saddle with a first stirrup strap; anda second stirrup attached to a second side of said saddle with a second stirrup strap, wherein said first stirrup and said second stirrup are configured such that said first stirrup and said second stirrup can be secured around a torso of said user.
9. The method of claim of claim 8 wherein said at least two straps comprises a first strap removably attached near a first end of a skirt of said saddle and a second strap removably attached near a second end of said skirt.
10. The method of claim 7 wherein said compartment comprises a zipper across a front end of said toy saddle to allow said user to open and close said compartment.
11. The method of claim 8 wherein said at least two straps comprises a first adjustable strap and a second adjustable strap wherein a first end of said first adjustable strap is attached to a front end of said toy saddle and a second end of said first adjustable strap is attached to a first side of a skirt of said saddle and wherein a first end of said second adjustable strap is attached to said front end of said toy saddle and a second end of said first adjustable strap is attached to a second side of said skirt of said saddle.
12. The method of claim 8 wherein said toy saddle further comprises at least one additional compartment resembling a saddle bag attached to a rear portion of said toy saddle backpack and wherein said method further comprises the step storing said at least two straps in said at least one additional compartment when said at least two straps are not in use.
13. The toy saddle backpack of claim 1 wherein said first stirrup strap and said second stirrup strap are adjustable.Description:
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002]The present invention relates to a toy saddle, and more particularly to a toy saddle that can be worn by a child that also serves as a backpack.

[0004]Children will often use their imaginations to pretend to be something they are not. One pretend game is for a child to act as if he or she is a horse. In carrying out this game, children desire to have toys that assist in making the game more realistic. So for example, while pretending to be a horse, a child may desire to have a toy saddle attached to his or her back. Additionally, children desire to distinguish themselves from other children by carrying unique items to school. Thus, it would be desirable to have such a toy saddle that could also be used as a backpack.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0005]In a preferred embodiment of the invention, a backpack in the shape of a saddle can be worn to carry the things that a backpack is typically used to carry. The backpack can also be used by the user to pretend that he or she is a horse. When not in use as a toy saddle, the stirrups can be wrapped around the torso of the user to prevent the stirrups from interfering with the movement of the user.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0010]With reference now to FIG. 1, a perspective view of a toy saddle 100 in accordance with embodiment of the invention is illustrated. The toy saddle 100 has recognizable features of a real saddle including a saddle horn 110, a seat 120, a cantle 130, and stirrups 140. Straps 145 are used to attach said stirrups 140 to said toy saddle 100. Straps 145 can be made adjustable to fit users of different sizes. Straps 150 are attached to the toy saddle 100 and are similar to straps used on typical backpacks and may be adjusted to fit the child wearing the toy saddle 100. Straps 160, 170 are also provided to hold the saddle pressed to the back of a child. The straps 160, 170 may contain a snap-on connection 180 to allow attachment of the strap to the skirt 190 of the saddle.
[0011]Referring now to FIG. 2, a front view of a child showing the stirrups 140 in a stowed position in accordance with an embodiment of the invention is illustrated. The stirrups may be connected using a magnet fastener 210 or other fastener known in the art.
[0012]Referring now to FIG. 3, a rear view of a child 200 is shown illustrating the toy saddle as used for a backpack. A zipper 305 is attached to the top of the saddle 100 to allow access to a compartment inside the toy saddle. Although not illustrated, a loop for hanging the backpack on a hook when not in use can be attached to the top of the backpack. Compartments resembling saddle bags can also be added to the rear of the saddle 100 to allow for storage of the straps 160, 170 when not in use or other items as desired.
[0013]Referring now to FIG. 4, a child 200 is illustrated wearing the toy saddle and pretending to be a horse in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The stirrups 140 are disconnected from each other to allow them to hang down and simulate a real saddle while the child 200 is pretending to be a horse. Once the child is done playing, she can return the stirrups 140 to the stowed position around her torso.
[0014]Those skilled in the art should understand that the previously described embodiments of the TOY SADDLE BACKPACK are submitted for illustrative purposes only and other embodiments thereof are well within the scope and spirit of the present invention. Although the present invention has been described in detail, those skilled in the art should understand that they can make various changes, substitutions, and alterations herein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention in its broadest form. For example, different saddle designs can be used, various other compartments can be added, and different attachment means can be used as is known in the art.
Claims:
1. A toy saddle backpack for use on the back of a user, said toy saddle
backpack comprising:a toy saddle sized to fit on said back of said user,
said toy saddle having a compartment for carrying items;at least two
straps for holding said saddle on said back of said user;a first stirrup
attached to a first side of said saddle with a first stirrup strap;a
second stirrup attached to a second side of said saddle with a second
stirrup strap, wherein said first stirrup and said second stirrup are
configured such that said first stirrup and said second stirrup can be
secured around a torso of said user.
2. The toy saddle backpack of claim 1 wherein said at least two straps comprises a first strap removably attached near a first end of a skirt of said saddle and a second strap removably attached near a second end of said skirt.
3. The toy saddle backpack of claim 1 wherein said compartment comprises a zipper across a front end of said toy saddle to allow said user to open and close said compartment.
4. The toy saddle backpack of claim 1 wherein said at least two straps comprises a first adjustable strap and a second adjustable strap wherein a first end of said first adjustable strap is attached to a front end of said toy saddle and a second end of said first adjustable strap is attached to a first side of a skirt of said saddle and wherein a first end of said second adjustable strap is attached to said front end of said toy saddle and a second end of said first adjustable strap is attached to a second side of said skirt of said saddle.
5. The toy saddle backpack of claim 1 further comprising at least one additional compartment resembling a saddle bag attached to a rear portion of said toy saddle.
6. The toy saddle backpack of claim 1 wherein said first stirrup strap and said second stirrup strap are adjustable.
7. A method of using a toy saddle comprising the steps:strapping said toy saddle to a back of a user wherein said toy saddle comprises a compartment for carrying items;using said toy saddle as a backpack; andusing said toy saddle in connection with pretending to be a horse.

The method of claim 7 wherein said toy saddle further comprises:at least two straps for holding said saddle on said back of said user;a first stirrup attached to a first side of said saddle with a first stirrup strap; anda second stirrup attached to a second side of said saddle with a second stirrup strap, wherein said first stirrup and said second stirrup are configured such that said first stirrup and said second stirrup can be secured around a torso of said user.
9. The method of claim of claim 8 wherein said at least two straps comprises a first strap removably attached near a first end of a skirt of said saddle and a second strap removably attached near a second end of said skirt.
10. The method of claim 7 wherein said compartment comprises a zipper across a front end of said toy saddle to allow said user to open and close said compartment.
11. The method of claim 8 wherein said at least two straps comprises a first adjustable strap and a second adjustable strap wherein a first end of said first adjustable strap is attached to a front end of said toy saddle and a second end of said first adjustable strap is attached to a first side of a skirt of said saddle and wherein a first end of said second adjustable strap is attached to said front end of said toy saddle and a second end of said first adjustable strap is attached to a second side of said skirt of said saddle.
12. The method of claim 8 wherein said toy saddle further comprises at least one additional compartment resembling a saddle bag attached to a rear portion of said toy saddle backpack and wherein said method further comprises the step storing said at least two straps in said at least one additional compartment when said at least two straps are not in use.
13. The toy saddle backpack of claim 1 wherein said first stirrup strap and said second stirrup strap are adjustable.

[0002]The present invention relates to a toy saddle, and more particularly to a toy saddle that can be worn by a child that also serves as a backpack.

[0004]Children will often use their imaginations to pretend to be something they are not. One pretend game is for a child to act as if he or she is a horse. In carrying out this game, children desire to have toys that assist in making the game more realistic. So for example, while pretending to be a horse, a child may desire to have a toy saddle attached to his or her back. Additionally, children desire to distinguish themselves from other children by carrying unique items to school. Thus, it would be desirable to have such a toy saddle that could also be used as a backpack.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0005]In a preferred embodiment of the invention, a backpack in the shape of a saddle can be worn to carry the things that a backpack is typically used to carry. The backpack can also be used by the user to pretend that he or she is a horse. When not in use as a toy saddle, the stirrups can be wrapped around the torso of the user to prevent the stirrups from interfering with the movement of the user.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0010]With reference now to FIG. 1, a perspective view of a toy saddle 100 in accordance with embodiment of the invention is illustrated. The toy saddle 100 has recognizable features of a real saddle including a saddle horn 110, a seat 120, a cantle 130, and stirrups 140. Straps 145 are used to attach said stirrups 140 to said toy saddle 100. Straps 145 can be made adjustable to fit users of different sizes. Straps 150 are attached to the toy saddle 100 and are similar to straps used on typical backpacks and may be adjusted to fit the child wearing the toy saddle 100. Straps 160, 170 are also provided to hold the saddle pressed to the back of a child. The straps 160, 170 may contain a snap-on connection 180 to allow attachment of the strap to the skirt 190 of the saddle.
[0011]Referring now to FIG. 2, a front view of a child showing the stirrups 140 in a stowed position in accordance with an embodiment of the invention is illustrated. The stirrups may be connected using a magnet fastener 210 or other fastener known in the art.
[0012]Referring now to FIG. 3, a rear view of a child 200 is shown illustrating the toy saddle as used for a backpack. A zipper 305 is attached to the top of the saddle 100 to allow access to a compartment inside the toy saddle. Although not illustrated, a loop for hanging the backpack on a hook when not in use can be attached to the top of the backpack. Compartments resembling saddle bags can also be added to the rear of the saddle 100 to allow for storage of the straps 160, 170 when not in use or other items as desired.
[0013]Referring now to FIG. 4, a child 200 is illustrated wearing the toy saddle and pretending to be a horse in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The stirrups 140 are disconnected from each other to allow them to hang down and simulate a real saddle while the child 200 is pretending to be a horse. Once the child is done playing, she can return the stirrups 140 to the stowed position around her torso.
