opposite to the chuck end of the shaft.
2. The drill bit extension assembly according to claim 1, where said shaft is a hexagonal shape with a quick release tip.
3. The drill bit extension assembly according to claim 1, where said shaft is at least one of 3, 6 and 12 inches in length.
4. The drill bit extension assembly according to claim 1, where said means for holding a drill bit includes a plurality of jaws.
5. The drill bit extension assembly according to claim 4, where said chuck includes an adjustment knob, where said adjustment knob opens and tightens said plurality of jaws.Description:
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0001]1. Field of Invention
[0002]The present invention relates to a drill bit extension that includes a small chuck attached to a steel shaft.
[0003]2. Description of Related Art
[0004]Drill bits are cutting tools that are usually utilized to create cylindrical holes. Drill bits vary in size and application. A number of the drill bits may be utilized to drill a single hole and some specialized drill bits are utilized to create specific holes. Drill bits are used by carpenters, electricians and other building construction related fields. The drill bit includes a drilling portion with a small shaft or shank to be inserted into the chuck of a drill. The drill bit is usually utilized with a hand held drill that may be electrically powered.
[0005]The width of the drill bit varies in size and on some occasions the drill bit may not be long enough to extend into certain areas depending on the conditions of construction. Certain walls or obstructions may limit and hinder the use of shorter drill bits in certain applications. It is therefore desirable to provide a device to extend the length of the drill bit so that conventional drills may be inserted on the extension and used to drill the desired hole. The drill bit extension provides the means to extend the length of the drill bit but yet utilize the same tool such as a drill and the original bit desired by the user.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0006]The present invention relates to a drill bit extension assembly comprising: a shaft; a chuck, where said chuck is attached to one end of the shaft and includes a means for holding a drill bit; and an attachment end, where the attachment end is opposite to the chuck end of the shaft. The shaft may be a hexagonal shape with a quick release tip and designed in various lengths, such as 3, 6 or 12 inches. The means for holding a drill bit may include a plurality of jaws. The chuck may include an adjustment knob, where said adjustment knob opens and tightens the plurality of jaws.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
[0007]FIG. 1 depicts a drill bit extension according to the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0008]The present invention provides a drill bit extension that includes a long extended shaft with a chuck attached to one end thereof. The drill bit extension according to the present invention may be manufactured at varies lengths as desired by the users thereof. The chuck provides a means for the attachment of the original drill bit that the user desires to use. The shaft extension lengthens the reach of the drill bit in order to reach certain positions and locations that are inaccessible otherwise.
[0009]The drill bit extension according to the present invention includes a Shaft 12 as depicted in FIG. 1, which shows a Drill Bit Extension Assembly 10 according to the present invention. The extended Shaft 12 includes an Attachment End 14 and a Chuck 15 at the opposite end thereof. The Twist Chuck 15 includes Jaws 17 and a Twisting Knob 13 that opens and closes the Jaws 17 for the insertion of a drill bit. The Twisting Knob 13 may be rotated clockwise in order to tighten and secure the Jaws 17 of the Chuck 15. The Knob 13 is rotated counterclockwise to open the Jaws 17 for the insertion of a drill bit.
[0010]Various embodiments of the present invention are contemplated in order to provide a diverse drill bit extension. In one particular embodiment, the Chuck 15 may hold bits or attachments up to one-quarter inch in diameter or a larger chuck may be used which could receive bits up to a half inch in diameter. The Shaft 12 of the extension may be up to a quarter inch in diameter in one exemplary embodiment. The Shaft 12 length may vary from 3, 6 and 12 inches. The Shaft 12 is a hexagon shaft that provides a shape conducive for the insertion into a conventional pneumatic or electrical drill.
[0011]The Drill Bit Extension Assembly 10 of the present invention provides a means to access hard to reach areas by providing the additional length to a conventional drill bit. The Jaws 17 of the Chuck 15 may be made of hardened steel or other suitable materials. Since the Chuck 15 is a keyless chuck no additional tools or materials are necessary to utilize the Drill Bit Assembly 10 according to the present invention. The twisting of the Knob 13 opens and closes the Jaws 17 as desired by the user. The Drill Bit Extension 10 according to the present invention is a device that broadens the capabilities of a conventional drill and drill bit and is clearly an asset to any carpenter, electrician or other building professionals.
Claims:
1. A drill bit extension assembly comprising:a. a shaft;b. a chuck, where
said chuck is attached to one end of the shaft and includes a means for
holding a drill bit; andc. an attachment end, where the attachment end is
opposite to the chuck end of the shaft.
5. The drill bit extension assembly according to claim 4, where said chuck includes an adjustment knob, where said adjustment knob opens and tightens said plurality of jaws.
