BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002]The present invention relates generally to clothing, particularly jackets.

[0004]The denim jacket is well known to be both useful and casually fashionable. They are worn by many people and many kinds of people. Naturally, one jacket design does not suit all wearers. However, there is only one denim jacket design. That design has cuffed sleeves and waistband. The sleeve cuffs and waistband must also be buttoned to be fitted.

[0005]A fitted jacket is very comfortable to wear. However, buttons can be very difficult to you for children, disabled people, and seniors. Buttoning the sleeves is necessarily done with one hand, and is extremely difficult, even for the able.

[0006]Therefore, what is needed is a fitted denim jacket that does not require sleeve or waistband buttons to be secured.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0007]It is an object of the present invention to provide a jacket and method of making that does not require button or other securing means to be fitted.

[0008]The present invention achieves these and other objectives by providing a jacket with hemmed sleeve ends and waistband. Furthermore, inside breast pockets are provided having outlines aligned with the stitching of the outside breast pockets. These and other features, aspects, and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following description and drawings.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0013]The preferred embodiment(s) of the present invention is illustrated in FIGS. 1-4. Turning to FIG. 1, a jacket 100 is shown having two sleeves 100a, 100b ending in hemmed finishes 102a, 102b. The sleeves do not end in cuffs, and no buttons are provided on the sleeves for securing means. The waist also ends in a hemmed finish 102c, and does not have a button at the waist. The jacket 100 has one or more outside breast pockets 106a, 106b. It is preferably, but not necessarily, a denim jacket.

[0014]As used in this specification and in the claims, "cuff" means a folded over cloth that terminates a sleeve or waist part of a jacket and is at least one inch in length. Although "hems" are also folded over, they are less than one inch in length.

[0015]Details of the hemmed finishes 102 of the sleeve ends and waist are shown in the cross section FIG. 2. Stitching 108 to make the hemmed finishes 102 is shown.

[0016]FIG. 3 shows details of the inside of the jacket 100. One or more inside breast pockets 112a, 112b are provided on the inside of the jacket. The inside breast pockets share the same outlines 114a, 114b as the two outside breast pockets, shown as 106a, 106b in FIG. 1. This way, stitching used to secure the pocket to the inside is not visible on the outside as being separate from the stitching to secure the respective outside pocket, which greatly increases its aesthetic qualities.

[0017]FIG. 4 is a process flow chart for making a jacket of the present invention out of a standard jacket that has sleeve cuffs and a waistband cuff. First, one removes the sleeve cuffs 202. This step can be performed concurrently with hemming the sleeve ends 206.

[0018]The waistband cuff is removed 208. This step can be performed concurrently with hemming the waist 212.

[0019]Then, one or more inside breast pockets can be sewn into the jacket 214 along the same outline as the respective outside breast pocket such that the stitching for the inside pocket is aligned with the stitching for the outside pocket.

[0020]The benefits of removing the cuffs from the waist and sleeves include a resulting product that is more aesthetically appealing. Removing the cuff from the sleeves also makes the jacket much easier to put on.

[0021]Although the preferred embodiments of the present invention have been described herein, the above description is merely illustrative. Further modification of the invention herein disclosed will occur to those skilled in the respective arts and all such modifications are deemed to be within the scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.

Claims

1. A jacket having two sleeves and at least one outside breast pocket further comprising:a cuff-less sleeve end consisting essentially of a hemmed finish;a cuff-less waist consisting essentially of a hemmed finish; andan inside breast pocket inside the jacket sharing the same outline as the outside breast pocket, whereby the jacket provides a fitted and shorter fit around the sleeves without the use of a cuff fastening means, and whereby securing means securing the inside pocket are not visible on the outside of the jacket because they share the same outline.

2. The jacket of claim 1, wherein the jacket is a denim jacket.

3. The jacket of claim 1, wherein two cuff-less sleeve ends consisting essentially of a hemmed finish are provided.

4. The jacket of claim 1, comprising two inside breast pockets inside the jacket sharing the same outlines as two outside breast pockets.

5. A jacket having two sleeves and two outside breast pockets further comprising:two cuff-less sleeve ends consisting essentially of hemmed finishes;a cuff-less waistband consisting essentially of a hemmed finish; andtwo inside breast pockets inside the jacket sharing the same outlines as the two outside breast pockets, whereby the jacket provides a fitted and shorter fit around the sleeves and waistband without the use of a cuff fastening means, and whereby securing means securing the inside pockets are not visible on the outside of the jacket because they share the same outline.

6. The jacket of claim 5, wherein the jacket is a denim jacket.

7. A method of making a fitted jacket from a jacket having cuffed sleeves and a cuffed waistband comprising the steps of:removing the sleeves cuffs from the sleeve ends;hemming the sleeve ends;removing the waistband cuff from the jacket waist; andhemming the waist, whereby the sleeves and waist are shorter and fitted without the use of securing means.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the jacket has an outside breast pocket further comprising the step of sewing an inside breast pocket along the same outline as the outside breast pocket such that stitching for the inside pocket is aligned with stitching for the outside breast pocket.

The method of claim 8, wherein the jacket has a second outside breast pocket further comprising the step of sewing a second inside breast pocket along the same outline as the second outside breast pocket such that stitching for the inside pocket is aligned with stitching for the outside breast pocket.
