Patent application title: Cue chalk label with scuffing device

Inventors:  Gerald J. Elder (Everett, WA, US)  Mazon W. Gallegos (Marysville, WA, US)
IPC8 Class: AA63D1514FI
USPC Class: 473 35
Class name: Games using tangible projectile billiards or pool cue chalker
Publication date: 2010-09-23
Patent application number: 20100240466

vides a chalk label as a scuffing device for a billiard cue chalk. The device includes a multilayered billiard chalk label with an exposed portion of scuffing surface intended for the use of scuffing a billiard cue tip so the chalk can adhere better.

Claims:

1. A billiard chalk label with an attached scuffing device consisting of: a labeling material having one or more exposed areas to provide a scuffing surface for a billiard cue tip. The scuffing surface may be above or below the exposed label areas. The scuffing surface may also be a single layer combined unit adhered to the label or a multilayered unit with one layer being the abrasive scuffing surface. The scuffing surface may be on any or all of the remaining sides of the label. It is to be understood that the scuffing surface may be any abrasive material as long as it provides a surface to scuff the cue tip. It is possible to modify this label without materially departing from the simple embodiment of this invention. Accordingly all such modifications are intended to be included within the scope of this invention.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0004]1. Field of the Invention

[0005]The present invention relates to the field of billiard accessories.

[0006]2. Description of Related Art

[0007]Billiards has a long and rich history stretching from its inception in the 15th century. Its popularity remains mainstream as millions of people all over the world play billiards or `cue sports`. Billiards games are mostly played with a stick known as a cue. Chalk is applied to the tip of the cue stick, ideally before every shot, to increase the tip's friction coefficient so that when it impacts the cue ball on a non-center hit, no miscue (unintentional slippage between the cue tip and the struck ball) occurs. A part of having the chalk stick to the cue tip is that it must be scuffed with a scuffer or abrasive surface.

[0008]Presently there are many scuffing devices and unitary chalking and scuffing devices on the market. These products work well but are not widely used by the casual billiards player due to the cost of such devices and the inconvenience of carrying the device with you. There currently is no practical and disposable method to provide a scuffing surface unless you always carry your own scuffing device.

[0009]Consequently, there exists a need for an improved, inexpensive, disposable scuffing device that can be attached to the billiards cue chalk. This is the objective of the present invention.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0010]Briefly stated, the present invention provides a scuffing surface and a billiards chalk label combined. The device includes a multilayered billiard chalk label with an exposed portion of scuffing surface intended for the use of scuffing a billiard cue tip so the chalk can adhere better.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWINGS

[0011]The invention will become more clear upon viewing the following descriptions in conjunction with the drawings.

[0012]FIG. 1. is a top view showing the exposed side of the label and scuffing surface.

[0013]1.0 abrasive scuffing surface

[0014]2.0 paper label material, visible side.

[0015]FIG. 2. is a perspective view showing the multiple layers of the label.

[0016]1.0 abrasive material layer.

[0017]2.0 card stock layer to provide reinforcement to the bottom side of the label.

[0018]3.0 paper label material, adhesive side.

[0019]FIG. 3. is a perspective view of the label applied to a billiards chalk.

[0020]1.0 exposed chalking surface facing up.

[0021]2.0 exposed scuffing surface facing up.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0022]As can be seen by reference to the drawings, the label is a standard label that wraps the cube shaped chalk while leaving one side exposed for applying chalk to the players cue tip. The label then utilizes one of the remaining five sides to provide a scuffing surface attached to the label. The scuffing surface may be on any or all of the remaining sides of the label. It is to be understood that the scuffing surface may be any abrasive material as long as it provides a surface to scuff the cue tip.

[0023]The label is a very cost effective and convenient solution to the average billiards player who does not own a scuffer. With its simple design and components it can be applied to most available chalk currently on the market or placed over the existing label of most chalk.

[0024]The number of cube shaped label designs are quite numerable, and it is possible to modify this label without materially departing from the simple embodiment of this invention. Accordingly all such modifications are intended to be included within the scope of this invention.
