20120018275 | Rear Driveline Disconnect Apparatus - A rear driveline disconnect apparatus for use with four-wheel drive vehicles that is configured to allow the driver to easily, quickly and reliably change the vehicle between a four-wheel drive mode of operation and a front two-wheel drive mode of operation. The apparatus comprises a housing having an adapter at one end that mounts to the vehicle transfer case and an output flange at the opposite end that connects to the rear driveline assembly. The shaft from the transfer case is received in the housing and engaged by an output gear disposed therein. A coupling mechanism selectively couples and uncouples the output gear with an output shaft that extends rearward to connect to the output flange and the vehicle's rear drive shaft. When coupled, rotational torque is delivered to the rear driveline assembly to power the rear wheels. When uncoupled, only the front driveline assembly and front wheels receives power. | 01-26-2012 |

20110138929 | Kinetic Flow Meter - A fluid flow rate and density measuring apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus includes a section of cylindrical conduit, a flow sensor housing for allowing fluid to pass through the open ends of the sensor housing as fluid flows through the conduit, and an elongated cylindrically symmetric structure located within the housing with its longitudinal axis aligned along that of the housing thereby forcing fluid through the annular gap between the exterior of the elongated cylindrically symmetric structure and the interior wall of the sensor housing. The apparatus includes a one-piece construction that includes the housing and the cylindrically symmetric structure. The cylindrically symmetric structure has a length-to-diameter ratio of at least 3:1 and reduces a cross-section area of the conduit to between 20% and 50% of an open inlet area of the conduit. | 06-16-2011 |

20120280456 | Tapered Channel Macro/Micro Feature for Mechanical Face Seals - A mechanical face seal includes a pair of relatively rotatable seal rings having opposing seal faces which define a sealing region therebetween. The sealing region extends radially between the inside and outside diameters of the seal rings to seal a fluid in a sealing chamber near one diameter thereof. The seal faces are provided with tapered channel macro/micro features which generate hydrodynamic lift during relative rotation of the seal rings. The tapered channel macro/micro feature shows significant improvement in seal performance when compared to an untextured face. Low contact and hence low wear are attributed to a more distributed hydrodynamic load support function. Likewise, low leakage is believed to be the result of optimized cavitation function, and no debris was discovered in the micro-features at the conclusion of any testing. | 11-08-2012 |
20140027984 | Abeyance Seal for High Temperature, High Pressure Applications - An abeyance seal includes a polymer actuation ring, which defines a flexible sealing lip normally spaced from the shaft. When subjected to leakage, this element collapses against the shaft and forms an initial sealing. Secondarily, a metal sealing/anti-extrusion ring provides a second seal during leakage. The polymer ring provides the initial sealing function during leakage at low differential pressure, and once the polymer ring seals to the shaft, increased sealed pressure loads the polymer ring against the metal sealing/anti-extrusion ring causing it to deform so that the metal ring comes into contact with the shaft to form a second seal. | 01-30-2014 |

20110169944 | Dark Field Inspection System With Ring Illumination - A dark field inspection system that minimizes the speckle noise due to sample surface roughness can include a plurality of beam shaping paths for generating a composite, focused illumination line on a wafer. Each beam shaping path can illuminate the wafer at an oblique angle. The plurality of beam shaping paths can form a ring illumination. This ring illumination can reduce the speckle effect, thereby improving SNR. An objective lens can capture scattered light from the wafer and an imaging sensor can receive an output of the objective lens. Because the wafer illumination occurs at oblique angles, the objective lens can have a high NA, thereby improving optical resolution of the imaging sensor, and the resulting signal level. | 07-14-2011 |

20080291948 | Monolithic diode-pumped laser cavity - A monolithic pumped laser cavity design is disclosed. Elements of the laser cavity, such as gain material, Q-switch, reflector, and outcoupler, are contact bonded together with a thermally conductive epoxy. The assembly is then operatively coupled to a heat sink (e.g., by mechanical or chemical means). The assembly is potted in thermally conductive potting material. The stacked elements or a subset thereof may be bonded to heat sink mounts and/or face cooling layers. In this fashion, various elements can be easily assembled and bonded together to provide the desired combination of laser energy, pulse width, and repetition frequency. The thermally conductive potting material provides structural integrity, as well as thermal management by extracting heat from the encased assembly to the heat sink. The optional heat sink mounts and face cooling operate to further extract heat and reduce thermal loading. Outcoupling to fiber may also be provided. | 11-27-2008 |

After the THz radiation is generated in the crystals and coupled into the waveguides, the individual THz signals may be coherently combined to form a single THz signal (non-coherent configurations are provided as well). Crystal-waveguide arrays embodying the techniques can be used to implement efficient, robust, and compact THz sources suitable for applications such as security screening, medical imaging, quality control and process monitoring in manufacturing operations, and package and container inspection. | 09-17-2009 |

20130148673 | METHOD FOR BEAM COMBINATION BY SEEDING STIMULATED BRILLOUIN SCATTERING IN OPTICAL FIBER - A system and method for efficiently combining multiple laser beams into a single frequency by invoking stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in a dual core optical fiber is disclosed. The method and apparatus essentially becomes a brightness converter for the input laser beams. An SRS seed is generated in a long length of fiber or by a diode and is launched into the back-end of the SBS combining optical fiber. Various single-frequency pump beams are launched into the front-end of the same fiber. The seed acts to lower a threshold for SBS in the fiber, thus invoking the nonlinearity. Provided the various pump beams are close in frequency and seed/pump modes overlap, each acts to amplify the seed through the nonlinear SBS process, providing an output signal which is brighter than the combined pump beams. | 06-13-2013 |
