20120079256Interrupt suppression - A processor receives interrupts of a same type from hardware. The processor determines a rate at which the interrupts are being received. The processor compares the rate at which the interrupts are being received to a threshold rate. In response to determining that the rate at which the interrupts are being received is greater than the threshold rate, the processor sends just the first received interrupt to firmware for processing. All other of the interrupts are not sent from the processor to the firmware but instead are suppressed by the processor. By comparison, in response to determining that the rate at which the interrupts are being received is less than the threshold rate, the processor can send all the interrupts from the processor to firmware for processing.03-29-2012
20140035764CODE SET CONVERSION MANAGEMENT OPTIMIZATION - A management module registers a request to convert code from a first code set to a second code set, identifies a code set converter (CSC), determines whether a most recently used CSC is the identified CSC and, in response to determining that the most recently used CSC is not the identified CSC, locates a user-preferred CSC pool comprising a subset of locally stored CSCs each corresponding to a preference index. The management module, in response to determining that the identified CSC is located within the user-preferred CSC pool, searches the user-preferred CSC pool for the identified CSC, loads the identified CSC, initiates the identified CSC that converts the code from the first code set to the second code set, modifies usage data for the identified CSC, and orders the user-preferred CSC pool based on a preference index for each CSC stored in the CSC pool.02-06-2014

20080307951SAFETY VENT DEVICE - A perforating gun system having a relief system for relieving high pressure during unexpected high temperature or situations that may produce rupture of the gun body. The relief system may be responsive either to high temperatures as well as high pressures. In the high temperature situation, the relief system has a fuseable link that melts thereby allowing movement of a piston to open vent communication between the inside of a gun body in the ambient conditions. Similarly, a pressure device includes a piston responsive to pressure that moves under high pressure within the gun body thereby exposing a port enabling communication between the inside of the gun body and the ambient conditions.12-18-2008
20090223659THROUGH TUBING GUN LOCK - A lock for a perforating gun system comprising, a housing, a cylinder formed in the housing, a piston assembly disposed within the cylinder, and anchoring arms coupled with the piston assembly. Detonation of the shaped charges of an associated perforating gun produces a pressure surge which is communicated to a surface of the piston assembly. Appropriate movement of the piston assembly outwardly rotates the anchoring arms into anchoring engagement with an associated tubular. Thus the pressure from the detonation event will anchor a perforating system within its associated tubular.09-10-2009

20090166171Trifunctional membrane tube arrays - Membrane tubes or similar membrane devices are arrayed in layers so that liquid placed on their outer surfaces may be evaporated and also drain onto lower membrane devices. The entire array is subjected to moving air to enhance evaporation. The membrane devices function as filters while permeating water from industrial fluids while also providing evaporative surfaces to reduce the volume of used aqueous industrial fluids. The retentate surfaces of the membrane devices may also be on the interiors of the devices, and the permeate contacted with flowing air to evaporate the permeate. Unevaporated permeate is collected in either configuration for use as clean water, and concentrated fluid may be more easily handled, disposed or, and/or its components recycled. A cavitation device may be used to heat the aqueous industrial fluid to enhance permeation and evaporation rates with minimal scaling.07-02-2009
20090184065Dewatering of brine-containing oilfield fluids of uncertain composition - Brine-containing oilfield fluid of uncertain composition, such as produced water and used oilfield completion and workover brines, are prepared for transportation and storage by reducing them to very high densities but still with little risk of crystallization at a prescribed temperature. The fluids are densified by boiling at a temperature determined to achieve the desired density, under steady state conditions of input and withdrawal of steam or vapor and the desired concentrate, still without knowing the contstituents. Boiling temperature is significantly reduced under subatmospheric pressures while the desired target density is achieved.07-23-2009
20090277633Treatment of Cesium-Containing Fluids - Cesium solutions are treated in a cavitation device to increase their temperature and facilitate the removal of water from them. The context is normally an oil well fluid or a mining solution. The concentrated solutions can be reused, in the case of oil well fluids, or more easily handled for recovery of the elemental cesium or cesium in the form of a salt. Thermal energy is saved by using the concentrate or the water vapor to heat various streams within the system.11-12-2009
20100140107Treatment for produced and flowback waters from wells - Produced and flowback fluids, and other fluids emanating from oil, mining, and mineral extraction operations, are treated to remove heavy metals by introducing an oxidizing agent and passing the fluid through an electrocoagulator. A cavitation device is used to intensify the oxidation reactions. Coalesced bodies made in the electrocoagulator, including heavy metals such as iron rendered insoluble by elevation of their oxidation states, are separated from the fluids so they may be reused.06-10-2010
20100187130Coagulants made in situ from sulfate-containing water and uses therewith - Acid mine drainage and surface waters containing sulfate are processed by an electrocoagulator to make aluminum or other polyvalent metal sulfate, which acts as a coagulant for solids suspended in the waters. The process thus removes and puts to good use highly undesirable sulfate anions, obviating combinations with barium and other scale forming metals when the fluids are used in well drilling for other purposes associated with hydrocarbon recovery. Well fluids may be treated with the acid mine drainage including the sulfate coagulant made in it. Efficiency of the process may be enhanced by the addition of an oxidizing agent and/or by passing the fluid through a cavitation device or other mechanism to improve mixing, enabling the process to handle large quantities of acid mine drainage and fluids handled in hydrocarbon recovery, particularly from shale formations.07-29-2010
20100288708Viscosity control and filtration of well fluids - Circulating completion, workover and drilling fluids used in hydrocarbon recovery are filtered after monitoring for viscosity, which frequently causes plugging of filters. A viscometer generates a signal representative of viscosity in the fluid; the signal is used by a programmable controller to divert viscous fluid from the filter, or to take other action to prevent damage to the filter. The viscometer can be used in various positions in the system. Fluids deemed too viscous for the filter can be sent to a viscosity-reducing device, which may be a heating, shear-thinning, or cavitation device, to reduce its viscosity, enabling the fluid to pass through a filter without fouling. After filtering and a return to a lower temperature, the fluid may be treated if necessary to become viscous again for a useful purpose. A temperature monitor can be deployed on the fluid emerging or downstream from the cavitation or other device to assist in correlating temperatures to viscosities of various fluids. The cavitation device can also be used to increase the concentration of a dilute polymer-containing fluid to a usefully viscous value.11-18-2010

20140100785NULL SPACE PROJECTION FOR SOURCELESS GAIN STABILIZATION IN DOWNHOLE GAMMA RAY SPECTROSCOPY - A method for gain control of a radiation detector includes measuring standard gamma ray spectra for known concentrations of selected radioactive materials found in earth formations. A standards matrix is calculated from the standard gamma ray spectra. A singular value decomposition is computed from a matrix related to measurements of gamma ray spectra, of formations and the standards matrix. A radiation, detector gain is computed from a minimum ratio of null space with respect to data value space of a subsurface formation measurement related matrix and the standards matrix. Gain of the radiation detector is adjusted based on the computed radiation detector gain.04-10-2014
