20120077680 | NANOWIRE-BASED DETECTOR - Systems, articles, and methods are provided related to nanowire-based detectors, which can be used for light detection in, for example, single-photon detectors. In one aspect, a variety of detectors are provided, for example one including an electrically superconductive nanowire or nanowires constructed and arranged to interact with photons to produce a detectable signal. In another aspect, fabrication methods are provided, including techniques to precisely reproduce patterns in subsequently formed layers of material using a relatively small number of fabrication steps. By precisely reproducing patterns in multiple material layers, one can form electrically insulating materials and electrically conductive materials in shapes such that incoming photons are redirected toward a nearby electrically superconductive materials (e.g., electrically superconductive nanowire(s)). For example, one or more resonance structures (e.g., comprising an electrically insulating material), which can trap electromagnetic radiation within its boundaries, can be positioned proximate the nanowire(s). The resonance structure can include, at its boundaries, electrically conductive material positioned proximate the electrically superconductive nanowire such that light that would otherwise be transmitted through the sensor is redirected toward the nanowire(s) and detected. In addition, electrically conductive material can be positioned proximate the electrically superconductive nanowire (e.g. at the aperture of the resonant structure), such that light is directed by scattering from this structure into the nanowire. | 03-29-2012 |

20150104750 | COUPLINGS FOR FLAME OBSERVATION DEVICES - A window for viewing combustion includes a window body having an interior surface facing a combustion space, an opposed exterior surface facing an instrument space, and a seal surface between the interior and exterior surfaces. The seal surface tapers from the interior surface to the exterior surface and hermetically separating the instrument space from the combustion space. A coupling for connecting a combustion space to an instrument space includes a union body, flanged body and locking body all aligned along an optical axis. The union body defines a tapered bore in which a viewing window for viewing combustion is disposed. | 04-16-2015 |

20090033283 | ADJUSTABLE BATTERY CHARGER FOR UPS - An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) having an adjustable battery charger that generates a charger current, and a controller, coupled to the adjustable battery charger, that receives a signal representative of a system constraint and provides a reference, based on the signal, to the adjustable battery charger to control an amplitude of the charger current supplied by the adjustable battery charger based on the system constraint. The system constraint may include, for example, a maximum input current to the UPS, maximum charging current of the battery cell, and maximum and/or minimum charger current values. | 02-05-2009 |

20100049457 | METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MONITORING ENERGY STORAGE DEVICES - An improved battery, monitoring circuit and method for communicating with the battery is provided. Such batteries and communication methods are particularly useful in UPS systems that use such batteries to provide back-up power to electrical loads. In one aspect, performance, manufacturing, trend and/or other data are stored in non-volatile memory of the battery and are communicated to an external system such as a UPS. In another aspect, a method for communicating via single-wire interface is provided. In one aspect, a same interface is used to communicate with both conventional batteries and improved batteries having increased monitoring capabilities. | 02-25-2010 |
20100201194 | METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR PROVIDING UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER - Power supply systems and methods are provided. In one aspect, a power supply system includes a frame, a power input to receive input power from a power source, a power output to provide output power to a load, at least one battery module mounted in the frame and having a battery output that provides battery power, at least one power module mounted in the frame and coupled to the power input to receive the input power, coupled to the battery output to receive the battery power, and coupled to the power output to provide the output power from at least one of the battery power and the input power, a first controller coupled to the at least one power module, and a second controller, substantially similar to the first controller, coupled to the first controller, and coupled to the at least one power module, wherein each of the first controller and the second controller are configured to determine operational parameters of the power supply system and store a first set of parameters determined by the first controller and a second set of parameters determined by the second controller. | 08-12-2010 |

20130094977 | Hydraulic pump with communicating vessels - The present invention concerns a pump that includes a drain path for a liquid and a drain unit configured to realize the suction of the liquid along the path. In accordance with the invention, the pump further comprises a containment chamber to contain the drained liquid, and one or more than one exiting conduits in fluid communication with the containment chamber. Moreover, one or more than one vertical conduits are provided that develop from the containment chamber upwards and in fluid communication with the containment chamber. In such a manner, the vertical conduits form with the exiting conduits, through the containment chamber, one or more than one vessels communicating one with the other in such a way that the liquid that is drained by the drain unit into the containment chamber re-ascends along the exiting conduits towards the level of liquid contained in the vertical conduits. | 04-18-2013 |
