20090231925 | READ REFERENCE TECHNIQUE WITH CURRENT DEGRADATION PROTECTION - A set of reference cells is used for sensing the data values stored at bit cells of a memory device. In response to an event, the reference cell providing the highest output of the set is selected as the reference cell to be used for subsequent memory access operations. The remaining reference cells are disabled so that they can recover back to or near their original non-degraded states. At each successive event, the set of reference cells can be reassessed to identify the reference cell that provides the highest output at that time and the memory device can be reconfigured to utilize the reference cell so identified. By utilizing the reference cell having the highest output to provide the read reference and disabling the remaining reference cells, the likelihood of the read reference falling below a minimum threshold can be reduced. | 09-17-2009 |
20140059398 | ADAPTIVE ERROR CORRECTION FOR NON-VOLATILE MEMORIES - Methods and systems are disclosed for adaptive error correction for non-volatile memories that dynamically adjust sense amplifier read detection windows. Memory control circuitry uses error correction code (ECC) routines to detect bit errors that are non-correctable using these ECC routines. The memory control circuitry then dynamically adjusts sense amplifier read detection windows to allow for correct data to be determined. Corrected data can then be output to external circuitry. The corrected data can also be stored for later access when subsequent read operations attempt to access address locations that previously suffered bit failures. The disclosed methods and systems can also be used with respect to memories that are not non-volatile memories. | 02-27-2014 |

20100046538 | TCP CONNECTION RESOURCE DIVERSITY USING TUNABLE GEOMETRIC SERIES - Disclosed is a computer implemented method and apparatus for handling transport control protocol connections. The local host receives a transport control protocol socket connection request from a host. By subtracting a current port connection from maximum port connections to form a difference, the local host calculates the threshold based the difference divided by the tunable divisor, the tunable divisor not equal to one. The local host then determines whether the current port connections exceeds the threshold. By responding to a determination that the current port connections exceed the threshold, the local host blocks the transport control protocol socket request based on the TCP socket connection request. | 02-25-2010 |

20090144309 | METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR VERIFYING A SUSPECT RETURN POINTER IN A STACK - The present invention provides a computer implemented method, data processing system, and computer program product for verifying a return address. A computer stores the return address into a stack based on a function call. The computer generates a first hash based on a first stack frame and a second stack frame. The computer stores the first hash in a first canary location, wherein the first canary location is in the first stack frame. The computer executes at least one instruction of a routine referenced by the function call. The computer reads the first canary location to form a first suspect hash. The computer calculates a first verification hash based on the first stack frame and the second stack frame. The computer determines that the first verification hash matches the first suspect hash to form a first positive determination. The computer responsive to the first positive determination, the computer reads a second canary location to form a second suspect hash. The computer calculates a second verification hash based on the second stack frame. The computer determines that the second verification hash matches the second suspect hash to form a second positive determination. The computer responsive to the first positive determination and the second positive determination, the computer pops the return address off the stack. The computer executes at least one instruction at a memory location pointed to by the return address. | 06-04-2009 |

20150231389 | SELECTIVE AUTONOMIC STIMULATION OF THE AV NODE FAT PAD TO CONTROL RAPID POST-OPERATIVE ATRIAL ARRHYTHMIAS - Arrhythmia is a condition involving a rapid or slow heart rhythm that temporarily complicates the postoperative recovery from open heart surgery. Arrhythmias can be caused by sinus node dysfunction—slow heart rate or abnormalities in atrial conduction and automaticity that predispose to rapid heart rates. Current temporary treatments for rapid atrial arrhythmias are medications or external electrical cardioversion shocks. The present invention describes a method of treatment of postoperative arrhythmias and a device that includes a multipolar plaque electrode implanted on the atrioventricular (AV) node fat pad during the initial open heart surgery, leads that exit the body, an external controller connected to the leads that delivers an electrical stimulus, and a system to monitor the heart in order to optimize cardiac performance through the selection of individual stimulation poles and the stimulus parameters. The direct electrical stimulus to the AV node lowers the heart rate to achieve a “normal” heart rate or rhythm without medications or powerful shocks. The treatment is painless and without obvious side effects. The leads are designed to be removable or degradable once the patient is no longer at risk. | 08-20-2015 |

20120159175 | Deduplicated and Encrypted Backups - A system and method for efficiently creating deduplicated and encrypted data across a plurality of computers allows local encryption and remote storage of deduplicated segments. Large data blocks may be divided into segments of data, and encrypted using a two-step process. A standard hash of the encrypted segment is used as an index into a remote deduplicated database so that only unique data segments are stored, and are stored only in encrypted form. When retrieving data, a data owner uses the stored digest to retrieve the data from the deduplicated database and the stored IV and second key to decrypt the data. Only the data owner has the second key and IV, so the encrypted data segment stored data in the deduplicated database is highly secure from information bleed during the storage process. | 06-21-2012 |
