20110151479MICROFLUIDIC SYSTEMS INCORPORATING FLOW-THROUGH MEMBRANES - Disclosed is a flow-through membrane assay that takes advantage of a high surface area and rapid transport while allowing individual control over flow rates and times for each step of a multi-step assay. A microfluidic card features channels in communication with a porous membrane, channels on either side of membrane to allow transverse flow across the membrane, capturing a labeled target from the sample by flowing the sample across the membrane, or capturing a target from the sample followed by flowing a reagent containing a label that binds to the target. Fluid can be pushed or pulled through the assay membrane by external control. Air near the membrane is managed by diverting air between fluids to a channel upstream of the assay membrane, venting air between fluids through a hydrophobic membrane upstream of the assay membrane, and/or by venting trapped air through a hydrophobic membrane downstream of the assay membrane.06-23-2011

20080269718Method for pressure mediated selective delivery of therapeutic substances and cannula - Methods and devices are disclosed for selective delivery of therapeutic substances to specific histologic or microanatomic areas of organs. Introduction of the therapeutic substance into a hollow organ space (such as an hepatobiliary duct or the gallbladder lumen) at a controlled pressure, volume or rate allows the substance to reach a predetermined cellular layer (such as the ephithelium or sub-epithelial space). The volume or flow rate of the substance can be controlled so that the intralumenal pressure reaches a predetermined threshold level beyond which subsequent subepithelial delivery of the substance occurs. Alternatively, a lower pressure is selected that does not exceed the threshold level, so that delivery occurs substantially only to the epithelial layer. Such site specific delivery of therapeutic agents permits localized delivery of substances (for example to the interstitial tissue of an organ) in concentrations that may otherwise produce systemic toxicity. Occlusion of venous or lymphatic drainage from the organ can also help prevent systemic administration of therapeutic substances, and increase selective delivery to superficial epithelial cellular layers. Delivery of genetic vectors can also be better targeted to cells where gene expression is desired. The access device comprises a cannula with a wall piercing tracar within the lumen. Two axially spaced inflatable balloons engage the wall securing the cannula and sealing the puncture site. A catheter equipped with an occlusion balloon is guided through the cannula to the location where the therapeutic substance is to be delivered.10-30-2008

20110004570Non-debt, increasing-share, co-ownership to full ownership - A method of debt-free property purchase through a partnership or any other form of co-ownership between a lead buyer (or buyers) and an investor (or investors) where the co-ownership is a separate legal entity whose sole purpose is to own, hold and manage a given property. The lead buyer may acquire additional percentage of the co-ownership over time towards full ownership, at a cost based on the latest assessed value. The co-ownership is best setup as a separate legal entity as it facilitates management of the property and gradual transfer of ownership. The co-ownership rents the property and the lead buyer has the first right to rent it. The co-ownership recognizes profit, loss, expense and responsibility for the property and distributes revenue. Lead buyers may choose to use their revenue to grow ownership share while investors may invest it, along with sale proceeds, in new co-ownerships.01-06-2011

20120180778MULTIPLE FUEL TANK SYSTEM - The present disclosure is directed to a mobile machine, such as hydronic surface heater designed to be transported to a potentially remote worksite and operated for an extended period of time. The machine has a fueled component, such as a burner, fueled by a fuel supply system having at least two fuel tanks that are operably connected to one another by a connection line having an electronically controlled valve therein. The valve is coupled to the machine's electrical system, such as being coupled to the output of the machine's main breaker, so as to be opened whenever the machine is operating but to be otherwise closed. The fuel supply system thus has, in effect, a single tank when the machine is running and multiple separated tanks when the machine is not running. Fuel spill risks therefore are mitigated without having to sacrifice operating time and without significantly complicating the machine's fuel supply systems or its controls.07-19-2012
