20150367380 | BREATH-ACTIVATED IMAGES AND ANTI-COUNTERFEIT AUTHENTICATION FEATURES FORMED OF NANOPILLAR ARRAYS - Disclosed are articles having authentication features, as well as methods for authenticating such articles by forming authentication features to prevent or diminish counterfeiting activities. A surface of an article to be authenticated (or a surface of a component associated with the article) may have a region with a periodic array of nanopillars comprising a polymeric material formed thereon. The array of nanopillars thus defines an authentication feature (e.g., a graphic image or other pattern). In certain aspects, the authentication feature may be substantially invisible to the human eye under normal conditions, but revealed when condensate is created on the surface by exposure to moisture or vapor (e.g., human breath). The methods of forming nanopillar arrays disclosed herein are simple and permit single-step replication with high fidelity. Furthermore, the methods may be used with a variety of substrates, including fabric, textiles, leather, glass, paper, and metals by way of non-limiting example. | 12-24-2015 |

20150375795 | METHOD OF FASTENING VEHICLE PARTS - An improved joining process interlocks parts together and avoids breakthrough in joints that would otherwise be infeasible. The process is used to join a relatively thin rear part to a relatively thick front part. A dedicated backer plate is joined to the front and rear parts such that the rear part is sandwiched between the front part and the backer plate. The front part, rear part, and backer plate are plastically deformed to establish interlock by insertion of a self-piercing rivet, clinching, or insertion of a flow drill screw. | 12-31-2015 |

20150377697 | OPTICAL PERSPIRATION SENSOR USING FRUSTRATED TOTAL INTERNAL REFLECTION - Systems and methods may provide for receiving an electrical measurement signal from a first photodetector coupled to a first waveguide and determining a total intensity level of reflected light in the first waveguide based on the electrical measurement signal. Additionally, a perspiration level of skin in contact with the first waveguide may be determined based on the total intensity level of the reflected light in the first waveguide. In one example, an electrical control signal is received from a second photodetector coupled to a second waveguide that is physically isolated from the skin, wherein the total intensity level of the reflected light in the first waveguide is determined further based on the electrical control signal. | 12-31-2015 |
20150377705 | APPARATUS, METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR SPECTROMETRY WITH A DISPLACEABLE WAVEGUIDE STRUCTURE - Techniques and mechanisms for a monolithic photonic integrated circuit (PIC) to provide spectrometry functionality. In an embodiment, the PIC comprises a photonic device, a first waveguide and a second waveguide, wherein one of the first waveguide and the second waveguide includes a released portion which is free to move relative to a substrate of the PIC. During a metering cycle to evaluate a material under test, control logic operates an actuator to successively configure a plurality of positions of the released portion relative to the photonic device. In another embodiment, light from the first waveguide is variously diffracted by a grating of the photonic device during the metering cycle, where portions of the light are directed into the second waveguide. Different wavelengths of light diffracted into the second waveguide may be successively detected, for different positions of the released portion, to determine spectrometric measurements over a range of wavelength. | 12-31-2015 |

20150226800 | MEASUREMENT CIRCUITRY AND METHOD FOR MEASURING A CLOCK NODE TO OUTPUT NODE DELAY OF A FLIP-FLOP - A measurement circuit and method are provided for measuring a clock node to output node delay of a flip-flop. A main ring oscillator has a plurality of main unit cells arranged in a ring, with each main unit cell comprising a flip-flop and pulse generation circuitry connected to the output node of the flip-flop. The flip-flop is responsive to receipt of an input clock pulse at the clock node to output a data value transition from the output node, and the pulse generation circuitry then generates from the data value transition an input clock pulse for a next main unit cell in the main ring, whereby the main ring oscillator generates a first output signal having a first oscillation period. A reference ring oscillator has a plurality of reference unit cells arranged to form a reference ring, and generates a second output signal having a second oscillation period, each reference unit cell comprising components configured such that the second oscillation period provides an indication of a propagation delay through the pulse generation circuitry of the main unit cells of the main ring during the first oscillation period. Calculation circuitry then determines the clock node to output node delay of the flip-flop from the first oscillation period and the second oscillation period. This provides a particularly simple and accurate mechanism for calculating the clock node to output node delay of a flip-flop. | 08-13-2015 |

20150299881 | DEVICES AND METHODS FOR SPATIALLY AND TEMPORALLY RECONFIGURABLE ASSEMBLY OF COLLOIDAL CRYSTALS - The disclosure provides devices and methods for controlled assembly of colloidal particles. A medium with colloidal particles having a charged surface is placed in physical contact with an electrically conductive material (e.g., an ITO coating). An external light source directs light towards the electrically conductive material, thus driving the colloidal particles from a first non-assembled state to a second assembled state, which may thus create organized colloidal crystals or alternatively predetermined void regions. Assembly of the colloids can be achieved with no external electric fields or external magnetic fields. Moreover, the colloidal assembly is three-dimensional, occurs rapidly, and is entirely reversible and reconfigurable based on controlling the light applied to the electrically conductive material. | 10-22-2015 |
