The methods involve monitoring state changes of the inputs as the object passes the sensor and comparing the magnitude of state changes in the order in which a forward-moving object would cause inputs to switch to a particular state. For each state change comparison, a direction variable is adjusted to indicate forward or reverse movement. After passage of the object, a direction of movement is assigned to the moving object on the basis of the final value of the direction variable. The invention provides a high degree of accuracy, is simple to reconfigure, and more economical than other methods. | 10-23-2014 |

20110019629 | Selecting a Transmission Technology - The present invention discloses a method for selecting a transmission technology (MIMO or non MIMO) for a HSDPA connection established between a RNC and a UE depending on the mobility of said UE, measured at the RNC as variations of the position of the UE. Then, if the connection is established with HSDPA MIMO technology and the position variations exceed a first pre-defined threshold, the connection is switched to HSPDA non MIMO technology. Also, if the connection is established with HSPDA non MIMO technology and the position variations are below a second pre-defined threshold, the connection is switched to HSPDA MIMO technology | 01-27-2011 |

20110085614 | Selecting Transmission Technology for Communications in Wide Area Mobile Networks - Method and RNC for selecting transmission technology when a UE enters the network, which checks whether the UE is MIMO and, if so and only one carrier is available, allocates its traffic to said carrier and uses a S-CPICH to provide all MIMO traffic with a diversity pilot and Virtual Antenna Mapping for balance. If more than one carrier is available, the number of UEs, their radio conditions and load of carriers are checked periodically. If the carrier is busy only with MIMO and its load is higher than the load of the remaining carriers, diversity CPICH of STTD is selected; otherwise and only if the UEs vulnerable to STTD with good radio conditions exceed a certain number, the S-CPICH is selected. The RNC can reconfigure the network from transmitting MIMO traffic with STTD to using MIMO with S-CPICH or vice versa dynamically by periodical check of the load and UEs criteria for configuration change. | 04-14-2011 |
20110122962 | PHASE DIFFERENCE IN A MOBILE COMMUNICATION NETWORK - A system and method are described for detecting and controlling the phase difference introduced to radio signals by transmission branches of a transmission system in a mobile communication network. Periodically a calibration signal is generated at an input of the transmission branches during a phase calibration mode. The phase difference introduced by the two transmission branches is detected by detecting the phase difference between the calibration signal, which has at least partly passed through the first transmission branch and the calibration signal, which has at least partly passed through the second transmission branch. The phase difference between the radio signals is controlled based on the detected phase difference. | 05-26-2011 |
20120113797 | Method and Network Entity for Active Set Update in Wide Area Mobile Networks - The described method provides a Network Controller (e.g., RNC) with an active set update procedure for application when activating STTD in the 3G networks. To avoid any call drop due to misalignments between the respective transmission diversity mode configurations of cells and the presence/absence of support for transmission diversity in user terminals, STTD mode is deactivated, in cases where the terminal is rejecting the Active Set Update message due to ‘invalid configuration’. The misalignments between the respective transmission diversity mode configurations may arise in a number of scenarios: handover from a cell with STTD deactivated to a cell with STTD activated, handover from a cell with STTD activated to a cell with STTD deactivated, or handover between cells with STTD activated. In all cases the solution consists of indicating to the UE the STTD Off configuration to obtain a success active set update procedure irrespective of the true configuration status. | 05-10-2012 |

The method and system employs the additional functionality whereby an additional phase offset can be applied to one of the physical paths (one physical antenna) in order to modify and adapt the transmit polarization. In the preferred embodiment, the criterion for selecting the additional phase offset will be to maximize the energy received from the HSPA serving cell by the legacy HSDPA user equipments. | 05-10-2012 |

20120257738 | CONTROL OF EXECUTION TIME OF TIME-DEPENDENT SERVICES BY DEFINING DIFFERENT TIME ZONES FOR THE SUBSCRIBER'S LOCATION, THE EXECUTION SERVER, AND THE SERVICE SUBSCRIPTION INFORMATION - There are services that can be invoked by the subscribers, or triggered by a network entity, and wherein this invocation or trigger may depend on date or time of the day, namely, time-dependent services. Regarding the execution of these time-dependent services, there might be two problems with the determination of the execution time. The first problem is caused by the nature of so called “Data Layered Architectures” where the service execution servers, referred to as “Front-Ends” and the database servers storing the subscriber data, referred to as “Common Directory” are geographically spread over different time zones. As a consequence, the “Front-End” executes the service according to its own time zone rather than at the time zone where the subscriber is currently located or at home. The second problem is cause by the subscriber when he is roaming in an area located in a different time zone than his home time zone. For example a Subscriber has configured a Call Forwarding Unconditional Service with a time range everyday so that all calls received in that period of time are diverted to a voice mailbox, e.g. from 19:00 to 07:00 all received calls are forwarded to the voice mailbox. Let's imagine that the Subscriber moves to a visited network some time zones away from his/her original one, for example the period of time 19:00 to 07:00 in the original time zone corresponds to 14:00 to 02:00 in the new time zone. It means that the Subscriber stops receiving call at 14:00, so an important call might be diverted to voice mailbox. But also the Subscriber begins receiving calls at 02:00, when s/he is still sleeping. So the experience is a bit annoying. The problem is solved in that a Front-Ends server executing the Service might recalculate the service (execution) time with the applicable time zone. The applicable time zone is selected from the time zone where the Subscriber is located, SLTZ, the time zone of the Server executing the service, FETZ, or the time zone of the stored service date and time, SSTZ or SDTZ. | 10-11-2012 |
