20150243321Reading Data from Hard Disks Having Reduced Preambles - An exemplary hard disk (HD) track has a full overhead section followed by user sections interleaved with intervening partial overhead sections that are too short for an HD drive (HDD) to attain sufficient timing lock using only one partial overhead section, but long enough for the drive to attain sufficient timing lock using multiple partial overhead sections to read user data from the user section immediately following the partial overhead section where sufficient timing lock is attained. The drive begins, but does not finish, attaining timing lock based on the first partial overhead section, but the drive does finish attaining timing lock based on the last partial overhead section. The drive can also read user data in subsequent user sections by maintaining or re-attaining sufficient timing lock using each successive partial overhead section. Increased user data storage is achieved without significantly impacting average latency of HDD read sessions compared to conventional HD drives.08-27-2015

20130095879CALL ESTABLISHMENT IN HIGHLY CONGESTED NETWORK ENVIRONMENT - A communication device establishes a connection in a congested wireless communications network environment by systematically reducing a probability of attempting to connect to a strongest, but overly-congested, cell. A transceiver of the communications device attempts at least one first Random Access Channel (RACH) procedure with a first cell that is currently designated as a serving cell. A RACH controller of the communications device detects a failure to successfully connect to the first cell via the at least one first RACH procedure, autonomously determines, based at least on a probability value, which is greater than 0% and less than 100%, whether to de-prioritize the first cell for a period of time, and, in response to determining to de-prioritize the first cell, reduces a priority value assigned at the UE to the first cell for cell selection/reselection, and assigns a selected time period during which the priority value remains reduced.04-18-2013

20140372657Hidden Base Address Register Programming in Peripheral Component Interconnect Express Buses - A mapping and correspondence may be established between a virtual topology and a physical topology of a PCIe subsystem, and a host may be presented with the virtual topology but not the actual physical topology. A semi transparent bridge may couple an upstream host to the PCIe subsystem that includes intermediary bridges and respective PCIe endpoints coupled downstream from the intermediary bridges. The intermediary bridges may be hidden from the host, while the respective PCIe endpoints may be visible to the host. A configuration block may provide to the upstream host, during a setup mode, first memory allocation information corresponding to the intermediary switches, responsive to the upstream host expecting second memory allocation information corresponding to the respective PCIe endpoints. The configuration block may then provide to the upstream host, during a runtime mode, the second memory allocation information, responsive to the upstream host expecting the second memory allocation information.12-18-2014
20140372741Opaque Bridge for Peripheral Component Interconnect Express Bus Systems - A host system may couple to a PCIe subsystem. During setup of the PCIe subsystem, the BIOS in the host system may first be informed that the devices to be coupled are not PCIe devices, and certain amount of memory is required for these devices. The BIOS may therefore not attempt to configure the devices, and may instead allocate the required memory space. When the operating system boots up, it may not attempt to configure the devices, loading a custom driver instead of an existing PCI driver to configure the bus. Once loaded, the custom driver may configure the devices, then inform the OS that there are PCIe devices in the system at the specified addresses, which may cause the OS to load and execute existing PCIe device drivers to operate/use the devices. The proprietary driver may also be used to handle traffic between the PCIe drivers and the OS.12-18-2014
