20120315639 | METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SINGLE CELL ISOLATION AND ANALYSIS - A method and apparatus are disclosed here for rare target cell enrichment and isolation, where the captured target cells can be individually picked up and used for downstream analysis. This method and apparatus utilize antibodies conjugated microbeads to isolate target cells, use ON/OFF controls for the target cell capturing magnet and the release magnet, such that there is no need to change the cap of the capturing magnet and thus enabling automatic multiple rounds of capturing, washing and releasing cycles to increase the target cell detection sensitivity and reproducibility. A special filter is utilized to effectively remove more than 95% of free unbound microbeads, thus significantly improving the purity of the collected target cells and increasing the data quality of downstream analysis of the single target cells. Lastly, RNA expression patterns are proposed for identifying of certain target cells (e.g. circulating tumor cells and white blood cells). | 12-13-2012 |
20140242603 | METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR TARGET CELL MAGNETIC ENRICHMENT, ISOLATION AND BIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS - Disclosed here are methods and apparatus for target cell magnetic enrichment, isolation, and biological analysis. The target cells are labeled with magnetic nano-particles in a separate tube, container or in a device with soft magnetic collectors but not activated during the labeling period. Labeled biological samples will be used for targets enrichment and isolation using a magnetic device (permanent magnet or electromagnet). The labeled sample passes through a tube/channel within a magnetic field so the magnetic nano-particle labeled targets can be captured. Once the magnetic field is turned off, the captured targets can be released in a container. The labeling of the targets also can be performed in a device with soft magnetic collectors inside. Without magnetic activation, the device is just like a regular biological sample incubator. Thus the targets are labeled during the mixing and incubation. Once the device is placed in the magnetic field, the soft magnetic collectors are activated and the labeled target cells are isolated. After the washing process, the pure targets are released into the target collector by turning off the magnetic field with or without centrifugation. The magnet can be a permanent magnet or an electromagnet producing the magnetic field for targets to bind to the soft magnetic collectors in the device. The soft magnetic collectors can function as a magnet for capturing and releasing targets without the need of separation covers between magnet and target biological structures. The methods and apparatus improve the targets capturing sensitivity which improves the operation of the device. The methods and apparatus can be used for enrichment, isolation and material transferring. | 08-28-2014 |

20130132057 | THROTTLE DISK I/O USING DISK DRIVE SIMULATION MODEL - Computerized methods, systems, and computer-storage media for throttling requests from virtual machines (VMs) to a hard-disk drive (HDD) are provided. When a request for disk I/O is received from a VM, a disk-drive model that simulates performance characteristics of the HDD is accessed. During access, the disk-drive model's estimation of HDD parameters and the disk-drive model's estimation of a current state of a disk head of the HDD are gathered. A projected execution time to carry out the request is computed as a function of the estimated HDD parameters and the estimated current state of the disk head. Also, an actual execution time to carry out the request is measured upon allowing the request to pass to the HDD. Using a comparison of the projected execution time and the actual execution time, the traffic of the requests from the VMs is throttled. | 05-23-2013 |
20130254766 | OFFLOADING PACKET PROCESSING FOR NETWORKING DEVICE VIRTUALIZATION - The present invention extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for offloading packet processing for networking device virtualization. A host maintains rule set(s) for a virtual machine, and a physical network interface card (NIC) maintains flow table(s) for the virtual machine. The physical NIC receives and processes a network packet associated with the virtual machine. Processing the network packet includes the physical NIC comparing the network packet with the flow table(s) at the physical NIC. When the network packet matches with a flow in the flow table(s) at the physical NIC, the physical NIC performs an action on the network packet based on the matching flow. Alternatively, when the network packet does not match with a flow in the flow table(s) at the physical NIC, the physical NIC passes the network packet to the host partition for processing against the rule set(s). | 09-26-2013 |
