20140196863Foundry Mold Insulating Coating - Tubular metal articles such as pipe and cylinder liners are produced by centrifugal casting on a permanent metal mold coated by refractory glass on the active surface. A coating suspension mix is evenly distributed onto the mold to form a uniform layer of insulation on the surface of the mold. The material for the coating includes essentially a waterborne suspension mix of glass particles. The suspension is given time to dry on the surface of the mold. The glass particles dispersed in the suspension are both non-crystalline and nonporous. The glass particles in the suspension and forming the coating are not dissolved and do not chemically attract the polar water molecule or cause it to bond to the surface of glass in the suspension or to the mold active surface. Articles cast as such are smooth surfaced and require only limited machining. The coating provides thermal protection to the mold, but more importantly, the water in the suspension vaporizes quickly on a warm mold because the water is not attracted or bonded to the refractory glass particles.07-17-2014

20130280497Anhydride Copolymer Top Coats for Orientation Control of Thin Film Block Copolymers - The present invention involves the use of random copolymer top coats that can be spin coated onto block copolymer thin films and used to control the interfacial energy of the top coat-block copolymer interface. The top coats are soluble in aqueous weak base and can change surface energy once they are deposited onto the block copolymer thin film. The use of self-assembled block copolymers to produce advanced lithographic patterns relies on their orientation control in thin films. Top coats potentially allow for the facile orientation control of block copolymers which would otherwise be quite challenging.10-24-2013
20130344242Anhydride Copolymer Top Coats for Orientation Control of Thin Film Block Copolymers - The use of self-assembled block copolymer structures to produce advanced lithographic patterns relies on control of the orientation of these structures in thin films. In particular, orientation of cylinders and lamellae perpendicular to the plane of the block copolymer film is required for most applications. The preferred method to achieve orientation is by heating. The present invention involves the use of polarity-switching top coats to control block copolymer thin film orientation by heating. The top coats can be spin coated onto block copolymer thin films from polar casting solvents and they change composition upon thermal annealing to become “neutral”. Top coats allow for the facile orientation control of block copolymers which would otherwise not be possible by heating alone.12-26-2013

20120106029Volumetrically Efficient Wet Electrolytic Capacitor - A wet electrolytic capacitor that contains a sintered anode positioned with an interior space of a metal casing is provided. The anode and metal casing are of a size such that the anode occupies a substantial portion of the volume of the interior space. More particularly, the anode typically occupies about 70 vol. % or more, in some embodiments about 75 vol. % or more, in some embodiments from about 80 vol. % to about 98 vol. %, and in some embodiments, from about 85 vol. % to 95 vol. % of the interior space. Among other things, the use of an anode that occupies such a large portion of the interior space enhances volumetric efficiency and other electrical properties of the resulting capacitor.05-03-2012
20120106030Hermetically Sealed Wet Electrolytic Capacitor - A wet electrolytic capacitor that contains a hermetically sealed lid assembly is disclosed. More specifically, the lid assembly contains a lid (e.g., titanium) that defines an internal orifice. A conductive tube may extend through the orifice that is of a size and shape sufficient to accommodate an anode lead. An insulative material is also provided within the orifice to form a hermetic seal (e.g., glass-to-metal seal), such as between the conductive tube and the lid. The lid assembly also includes a liquid seal that is formed from a sealant material. The liquid seal coats a substantial portion of the lower surface of the lid and hermetic seal to limit contact with any electrolyte that may leak from the casing. To help achieve such surface coverage, the sealant material is generally flowable so that it can be heated during production of the capacitor and flow into small crevices that would otherwise remains uncoated.05-03-2012
20120176729Leadwire Configuration for a Planar Anode of a Wet Electrolytic Capacitor - A relatively thin planar anode for use in a wet electrolytic capacitor is provided. An anode leadwire is embedded within the anode and extends in a longitudinal direction therefrom. The wire may be formed from any electrically conductive material, such as tantalum, niobium, aluminum, hafnium, titanium, etc., as well as electrically conductive oxides and/or nitrides of thereof. To reduce the tendency of the leadwire to pull out of the anode due to stresses encountered during manufacturing (e.g., sintering) and/or use of the capacitor, the manner in which the wire is inserted is selectively controlled in the present invention. That is, at least a portion of the wire within the anode is bent at an angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the wire. This “bend” reduces the ease to which the wire can be pulled out in the longitudinal direction after the anode is pressed and sintered.07-12-2012
20120179217Planar Anode for Use in a Wet Electrolytic Capacitor - A relatively thin planar anode for use in a wet electrolytic capacitor is provided. Through a combination of specific materials and processing techniques, the present inventors have surprisingly discovered that the resulting anode may possess a high volumetric efficiency, and yet still be able to operate at a high voltage and capacitance, thus resulting in a capacitor with a high energy density. More particularly, the anode is a pressed pellet formed from an electrically conductive powder that contains a plurality of particles (including agglomerates thereof). The particles may have a flake-like morphology in that they possess a relatively flat or platelet shape. The present inventors have discovered that such a particle morphology can optimize packing density, and thus reduce the thickness of the anode and improve volumetric efficiency. Such particles can also provide a short transmission line between the outer surface and interior of the anode and also provide a highly continuous and dense wire-to-anode connection with high conductivity. Among other things, this may help increase the specific charge of the anode when anodized at higher voltages, thereby increasing energy density. The particles may also increase the breakdown voltage (voltage at which the capacitor fails) and help lower equivalent series resistance (“ESR”).07-12-2012
20130141841Wet Electrolytic Capacitor Containing a Gelled Working Electrolyte - A wet electrolytic capacitor is provided. The capacitor contains an anode comprising an anodically oxidized pellet formed from a pressed and sintered powder, a cathode that contains a metal substrate coated with a conductive polymer, and a working electrolyte in communication with the anode and the cathode. The working electrolyte is in the form of a gel and comprises an ammonium salt of an organic acid, inorganic oxide particles, an acid, and a solvent system that comprises water. The working electrolyte has a pH value of from about 5.0 to about 8.0.06-06-2013

20130046686PAYMENT PROCESSING SYSTEM AND METHOD - A system, method and stored program for processing payments and other financial transactions. The payment processing system of the present invention includes an input device for capturing information relevant to a customer's transaction (for example, credit card information) and storing that information securely associated with the customer. When it is determined that the customer owes a balance (for example, after an insurance company or other third party payor pays a portion of the customer's insurance claim), the balance remaining due is then calculated and submitted as a new financial transaction, using the stored information associated with the customer, e.g., in a new credit card charge, without having placed a hold on those funds as apart of an earlier transaction.02-21-2013
20130159118System and Method for Mobile Retail Transaction Processing - A system and method for processing retail transactions using a mobile device wherein a merchant has a mobile data processing device (such as a smart phone) into which he enters information about the transaction, then prepares a message to the processor of the transaction using a magnetic stripe reader coupled to his data processing device to provide a token which is authenticated by the processor of the transaction. The system may prepare a message regarding the transaction to a customer so that the customer may participate in the transaction, e.g., by entering an account number or PIN at his terminal, content which is used by the processor without being available to the merchant.06-20-2013

20140063194SUB-DIFFRACTION LIMIT IMAGE RESOLUTION IN THREE DIMENSIONS - The present invention generally relates to sub-diffraction limit image resolution and other imaging techniques, including imaging in three dimensions. In one aspect, the invention is directed to determining and/or imaging light from two or more entities separated by a distance less than the diffraction limit of the incident light. In some cases, the position of the entities can be determined in all three spatial dimensions (i.e., in the x, y, and z directions), and in certain cases, the positions in all three dimensions can be determined to an accuracy of less than about 1000 nm. In some cases, the z positions may be determined using one of a variety of techniques that uses intensity information or focal information (e.g., a lack of focus) to determine the z position. Non-limiting examples of such techniques include astigmatism imaging, off-focus imaging, or multi-focal-plane imaging.03-06-2014
20140326922SUB-DIFFRACTION LIMIT IMAGE RESOLUTION AND OTHER IMAGING TECHNIQUES - The present invention generally relates to sub-diffraction limit image resolution and other imaging techniques. In one aspect, the invention is directed to determining and/or imaging light from two or more entities separated by a distance less than the diffraction limit of the incident light. For example, the entities may be separated by a distance of less than about 1000 nm, or less than about 300 nm for visible light. In one set of embodiments, the entities may be selectively activatable, i.e., one entity can be activated to produce light, without activating other entities. A first entity may be activated and determined (e.g., by determining light emitted by the entity), then a second entity may be activated and determined. The entities may be immobilized relative to each other and/or to a common entity. The emitted light may be used to determine the positions of the first and second entities, for example, using Gaussian fitting or other mathematical techniques, and in some cases, with sub-diffraction limit resolution. The methods may thus be used, for example, to determine the locations of two or more entities immobilized relative to a common entity, for example, a surface, or a biological entity such as DNA, a protein, a cell, a tissue, etc. The entities may also be determined with respect to time, for example, to determine a time-varying reaction. Other aspects of the invention relate to systems for sub-diffraction limit image resolution, computer programs and techniques for sub-diffraction limit image resolution, methods for promoting sub-diffraction limit image resolution, methods for producing photoswitchable entities, and the like.11-06-2014

20130226607AUTOMATED HEALTH CARE DELIVERY VERIFICATION - A health service system is described herein that uses commonly available modern mobile computing devices to enhance the delivery and verification of health care services. Information automatically collected from mobile devices can corroborate a timesheet, mileage log, or other information submitted by caregivers. The system provides a comprehensive suite of verification technologies. For example, the system may capture photographic evidence of the visit (e.g., a picture of the patient, caregiver, or both together), GPS location and time information, biometric information (e.g., a fingerprint, retina scan, or other biometric signature from the patient and/or caregiver), and so forth. Thus, the health service system improves the delivery of and payment for health care services by helping each party to collect and provide the information associated with verification in a less obtrusive and more automated manner.08-29-2013
