20130062474 | TRAIN DETECTION - Occupancy of a railroad track detection zone by one or more trains is determined using sensor devices located at gateways into and out of the track detection zone. Each sensor device has a sensing range that includes a portion of the railroad track in the detection zone and the sensor device generates data used to uniquely identify each train passing through a gateway and thus the sensing range of one or more sensor devices. Data from the detection zone's sensor device array is collected and evaluated to monitor or track the status of any detected trains and the occupancy of the zone. In some embodiments, the sensor devices utilize anisotropic magnetoresistive sensor elements whose analog waveform data is the basis of magnetic flux peak detection and mapping to generate unique train identification signature data that is transmitted to and evaluated by a detection zone processor, which in some cases can control crossing signals and/or other control apparatus related to the railroad track detection zone. The unique train identification signature data can include digitized amplitude peaks and their sequence for each train, based on that train's generated analog waveform data. | 03-14-2013 |
20130063282 | ROADWAY DETECTION - Power efficient, modular sensor devices utilize magnetic sensor elements, wireless data communication and sensor device level processing to detect, evaluate and classify roadway vehicles. Sensor devices are configured in a network enabling data sharing between sensor devices. Earth generated magnetic fields are monitored within the range of each sensor device with reliability and stability over a wide range of environmental conditions and sensor device placements to detect field distortions specifically caused by a variety of roadway vehicles. Multiple sensor devices configured as a network, communicating with other sensor devices and one or more substations, collect, generate, share and evaluate data to determine multiple attributes of roadway vehicle events. Analog field distortion (waveform) measurements are converted to digital format and analysis on the detected waveform to classify the waveform event as a roadway vehicle of particular type and to determine a unique signature for the waveform event. Direction and speed of roadway vehicles and distinctions between roadway lane events can be realized, as well as detection of stationary roadway vehicles within sensor device range. Data is wirelessly transmitted between system elements to verify the integrity and health of all system elements on a continuing basis. One or more substation controllers and/or control stations and can configure, evaluate condition and status, process and relay unique signature data for a defined sensor device array, control operation of auxiliary devices and visual warning devices, and communicate with other substations and/or interface with a signal controller or central office. | 03-14-2013 |

20140011700 | THREE-DIMENSIONAL STRUCTURE OF H1N1 NUCLEOPROTEIN IN COMPLEX WITH ANTIVIRAL COMPOUNDS - The binding mode of the antiviral compounds have been characterized through a variety of biophysical and structural studies, elaborating on the proposed aggregation mechanism of action. We demonstrate the direct binding of these antiviral compounds to NP using thermal shift enhancement assay (TSE) and NMR. In addition, we have completed a detailed analysis of the oligomerization mechanism of action using dynamic light scattering, analytical ultracentrifugation, and surface plasmon resonance (SPR). Structure determination using x-ray crystallography confirmed the proposed compound-induced oligomerization mechanism of action. The co-crystal structure revealed that two compounds bound in an anti-parallel fashion bridging two NP monomers, inducing a novel non-native NP oligomer. Taken together, our data suggest a complex binding mode in which the compounds bind NP specifically in stoichiometric fashion inducing the formation of an NP oligomer without obstructing the RNA binding pocket or interfering with the native NP homo-oligomerization. | 01-09-2014 |
