20110167015 | CONCENTRATION RISK MODELING - Concentration risk, for example, refers to the risk of over-concentrating organizational resources. For example, if an organization over-concentrates its employees that work on a particular process in a small number of geographic locations, then, depending on the importance of the particular process, the organization assumes the risk that its operational continuity may be disrupted if one of those geographic locations experiences a disruption. Embodiments of the present invention assess the redundancy and criticality of each identified process within the organization, where redundancy refers to the organization's capacity to move work on a particular process from one center to another center in the event a disruption occurs at one of the centers and where criticality refers to the importance of a particular process to the organization. Based the redundancy and criticality assessments, embodiments of the present invention calculate a concentration-risk score for each of the identified processes. | 07-07-2011 |

20120138532 | Water Desalination Using Directional Solvent Extraction - Substantially pure water is produced via desalination using a directional solvent that directionally dissolves water but does not dissolve salt. The directional solvent is heated to dissolve water from the salt solution into the directional solvent. The remaining highly concentrated salt water is removed, and the solution of directional solvent and water is cooled to precipitate substantially pure water out of the solution. | 06-07-2012 |
20130082003 | Water Extraction Using a Directional Solvent - Purified water can be obtained via a continuous or semi-continuous process by mixing a liquid composition (e.g., sea water or produced frac water) including water with a directional solvent to selectively dissolve water from the liquid composition into the directional solvent. The concentrated remainder of the liquid composition (e.g., brine) is removed, and the water is precipitated from the directional solvent and removed in a purified form. The solvent is then reused as the process is repeated in a continuous or semi-continuous operation. | 04-04-2013 |
20140263055 | Ion Sequestration for Scale Prevention in High-Recovery Desalination Systems - Cations that can precipitate from an aqueous composition to produce scaling are sequestered by adding a multi-dentate ligand to the aqueous composition. The multi-dentate ligand bonds with the cation to form a non-scaling ionic complex; and the aqueous solution with the ionic complex is used in a process that produces substantially pure water from the aqueous composition, where the cation, absent formation of the ionic complex, is subject to scaling. The pH of the aqueous composition (or a brine including components of the aqueous composition) is then reduced to release the cation from the multi-dentate ligand; and the multi-dentate ligand, after the cation is released, is then reused in a predominantly closed loop. | 09-18-2014 |

Films have been characterized using Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results help to identify the stages involved in the MPCVD deposition of thin carbon films on Cu foil. In yet other embodiments, the films are doped during synthesis by introduction of nitrogen gas in the reactor. Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy reveal crystal structure and chemical characteristics. Nitrogen concentrations up to approximately 2 atomic % are observed. The growth process requires only a few minutes without supplemental substrate heating and offers a promising path toward large-scale synthesis of nitrogen-doped graphene films. | 02-05-2015 |

20140222876 | FILE SYSTEM EXTENDED ATTRIBUTE SUPPORT IN AN OPERATING SYSTEM WITH RESTRICTED EXTENDED ATTRIBUTES - Embodiments of the invention relate to providing file system extended attribute support in an operating system. A request from an application to access extended attribute data in a multi-platform file system using an interface specified by the operating system is received. It is determined whether the specified interface supports an exchange of full content of the extended attribute data between the application and the multi-platform file system. Based on determining that the specified interface does not support an exchange of full content, the request is processed by an alternate interface. Based on the access being a read, the full content of the extended attribute data is retrieved and returned to the application using the alternate interface. Based on the access being a write, the full content of the extended attribute data is received from the application using the alternate interface and written to the multi-platform file system. | 08-07-2014 |
20140317359 | CLUSTERED FILE SYSTEM CACHING - A method for accessing data stored in a distributed caching storage system containing a home cluster and a secondary cluster is provided. A first copy of a file is stored on the home cluster and a second copy of the file is stored on the secondary cluster. The second copy of the file is associated with an inode data structure having a consistency attribute. An input/output request is received directed to the file and indicates that file is in an inconsistent state by updating the inode's consistency attribute. The first copy and the second copy of the file is updated according to the received input/output request and it is determined whether the first copy and the second copy were updated successfully. The maintaining of the inode's consistency attribute is indicative of the inconsistent state of the file. | 10-23-2014 |
20160048341 | OPTIMIZED DATA PLACEMENT FOR INDIVIDUAL FILE ACCESSES ON DEDUPLICATION-ENABLED SEQUENTIAL STORAGE SYSTEMS - Data deduplication for data storage tapes includes intercepting tape control commands for a single data storage tape. The intercepted tape control commands are modified for adding processing logic and parameters for placement of deduplicated file data on the single data storage tape. Deduplication metadata is written to a metadata portion of the single data storage tape. The deduplicated file data is written to a data portion of the single data storage tape based on the placement to increase read throughput for a deduplicated set of individual files and to reduce an average number of per-file gaps on the single data storage tape without re-duplicating deduplicated data for meeting optimization of individual file accesses. | 02-18-2016 |
