20120282225 | METHOD AND COMPOSITION FOR CREATING CONDITIONAL LETHALITY FOR VIRUS MUTANTS AND FOR ELIMINATING THE VIABILITY OF AN EUKARYOTIC CELL - Viral vectors are potential tools for eliminating the viability of eukaryotic cells in anti-cancer therapies since they can efficiently destroy the cancer cells and trigger an immune response against tumours. Typically viruses are not specific to cancer cells and all methods known in art aiming to the construction of cancer-specific viruses suffer from serious problems. The present invention presents a universal method to overcome these problems and is usable for any DNA virus replicating in nucleus or for any layered vector of RNA viruses. In this method the viral gene expression and/or replication will be blocked by the introduction of one or more aberrantly spliced introns into crucial gene expression units of the virus or vector. Lethal effect of these mutations is reverted in a controlled manner by the delivery of splice-switch oligonucleotide (s) correcting the introduced defects and restoring the biological functionality of the virus or vector, including cytolytic properties. | 11-08-2012 |

20080205562 | Method and Apparatus for Impairment Correlation Estimation in MIMO Systems - The teachings herein disclose methods and apparatus that simplify impairment correlation estimation for received signal processing, based on determining, for any given processing interval, which impairment contributors should be considered in the estimation of overall received signal impairment correlations. These simplifications reduce computational processing requirements, allowing reduced circuit complexity and/or reduced operating power, and improve receiver performance. A corresponding transmitter and transmission method include transmitting multiple information streams to targeted receivers according to ongoing scheduling, and controlling the ongoing scheduling to reduce the number of impairment contributors considered in impairment correlation estimation at the targeted receivers. In one embodiment, a receiver identifies which impairment contributors to consider based on receiving control information. In another embodiment, the receiver identifies the impairment contributors to consider based on background processing, e.g., background determination of parametric model fitting parameters for a plurality of impairment contributors, and observing those model fitting parameters over time. | 08-28-2008 |
20080310562 | Efficient Covariance Computation by Table Lookup - The impairment processor described herein uses a look-up table operation to reduce the computational complexity associated with determining an impairment correlation between first and second sample streams for an interference rejection receiver. One exemplary impairment processor iteratively computes multiple partial impairment correlations based on values selected from look-up table(s), and combines the partial impairment correlations to obtain a final impairment correlation between the first and second sample streams. During each iteration, the impairment processor computes a pair of delay offsets corresponding to the respective processing and path delays of the first and second sample streams, computes an index value as a function of a difference between the pair of delay offsets, selects a pre-computed value from the look-up table based on the index value, determines a pulse correlation estimate based on the selected pre-computed value, and determines the partial impairment correlation for that iteration based on the pulse correlation estimate. | 12-18-2008 |

20100310690 | Pharmaceutical product and analysis model for hormone replacement therapy for women and prevention of some cancers and uterine myomas - The present disclosure describes a study of estrogenic activity present in various plant species, selectively inducing some but not all estrogenic responses in the uterus. Prepubertal female rats were treated sequentially with various extracts or decoctions of different plant species or its vehicle, followed 1 h later by treatment with estradiol-17β (E) or its solvent. Uteri were excised under anesthesia and histologically processed for eosinophil quantification and morphometric evaluation of various uterine responses to estrogen, at 6 or 24 h after hormone or vehicle treatment. Besides extracts or decoctions, pure phytoestrogens were also used. Additionally, human mammary cancer cells MCF-7 or MDAMB-231 were cultured in presence of the extract (or decoction), E, both or solvent and cell proliferation was evaluated. Various extracts or decoction displayed selective estrogenic and/or antiestrogenic action for some but not all parameters of estrogen stimulation in the uterus and inhibited growth of human mammary cells in culture or antagonized the estrogen-induced increase in their growth. Present results reveal, for the first time, a dissociation of responses to estrogen by phytoestrogens, suggesting its possible therapeutic application as estrogenic compounds not inducing cell proliferation and reveal the anticancerous effect of some of the extracts with possible therapeutic relevance. The dissociation of responses to estrogen additionally suggest therapeutic applications in estrogen-related diseases (for instance, premenstrual syndrome, endometriosis, etc.); the inhibition of eosinophil degranulation suggest an application in diseases related to eosinophils (hypereosinophilic syndrome, allergic and hypersensitivity diseases). | 12-09-2010 |

20080294793 | REDUCING INFORMATION RECEPTION DELAYS - A technique for reducing information reception delays is provided. The technique reduces delays that may be caused by protocols that guarantee order and delivery, such as TCP/IP. The technique creates multiple connections between a sender and recipient computing devices and sends messages from the sender to the recipient on the multiple corrections redundantly. The recipient can then use the first arriving message and ignore the subsequently arriving redundant messages. The recipient can also wait for a period of time before determining which of the arrived messages to use. The technique may dynamically add connections if messages are not consistently received in a timely manner on multiple connections. Conversely, the technique may remove connections if messages are consistently received in a timely manner on multiple connections. The technique can accordingly be used with applications that are intolerant of data reception delays such as Voice over IP, real-time streaming audio, or real-time streaming video. | 11-27-2008 |

20120063347 | Methods and Systems for Estimating Network Available Bandwidth Using Packet Pairs and Spatial Filtering - Estimation of available bandwidth on a network uses packet pairs and spatially filtering. Packet pairs are transmitted over the network. The dispersion of the packet pairs is used to generate samples of the available bandwidth, which are then classified into bins to generate a histogram. The bins can have uniform bin widths, and the histogram data can be aged so that older samples are given less weight in the estimation. The histogram data is then spatially filtered. Kernel density algorithms can be used to spatially filter the histogram data. The network available bandwidth is estimated using the spatially filtered histogram data. Alternatively, the spatially filtered histogram data can be temporally filtered before the available bandwidth is estimated. | 03-15-2012 |

20140315795 | Compositions and Methods for Selective Delivery of Oligonucleotide Molecules to Cell Types - The invention provides a conjugate comprising (i) a nucleic acid which is complementary to a target nucleic acid sequence and which expression prevents or reduces expression of the target nucleic acid and (ii) a selectivity agent which is capable of binding with high affinity to a receptor which can be internalised by the cell in response to the binding of said selectivity agent. The conjugates of the present invention are useful for the delivery of the nucleic acid to a cell of interest and thus, for the treatment of diseases which require a down-regulation of the protein encoded by the target nucleic acid as well as for the delivery of contrast agents to the cells for diagnostic purposes. | 10-23-2014 |
