20100199385 | Methods and materials for increasing starch biosynthesis in plants - The subject invention concerns materials and methods for providing plants or plant tissue with increased starch biosynthesis. Increased starch biosynthesis provides for increased yield. One aspect of the invention concerns polynucleotides that encode a mutant plant large subunit of AGPase. In one embodiment, a polynucleotide of the invention encodes a plant AGPase large subunit having an amino acid mutation wherein the cysteine amino acid corresponding to amino acid position 424 of wild type maize AGPase large subunit is substituted with an amino acid that results in increased AGPase activity when provided in an AGPase enzyme. In a specific embodiment, the cysteine corresponding to amino acid position 424 of wild type maize AGPase large subunit is substituted with a valine amino acid. The subject invention also comprises a mutant plant large subunit of AGPase encoded by a polynucleotide of the invention. Characterization of kinetic and allosteric properties indicates increased starch yield is provided when the polynucleotides of the invention are expressed in plants such as monocot endosperms. | 2010-08-05 |
20100199386 | CONTROL OF COLD-INDUCED SWEETENING AND REDUCTION OF ACRYLAMIDE LEVELS IN POTATO OR SWEET POTATO - The present invention is directed to methods and compositions to eliminate cold storage-induced sweetening of potato or sweet potato. The invention is accomplished in part by silencing the vacuolar acid invertase gene using RNAi technology. The resulting potatoes withstand cold storage without significant hexogenesis, producing potatoes or sweet potatoes that have reduced Maillard reactions when fried in hot oil. The fried products accumulate significantly lower levels of acrylamide compared to controls. | 2010-08-05 |
20100199387 | GENE HAVING ENDOREDUPLICATION PROMOTING ACTIVITY - This invention is intended to identify a gene that regulates endoreduplication in a plant and to use such gene for breeding aimed at increasing the crop size. This invention provides a gene encoding an Arabidopsis thaliana-derived protein having an amino acid sequence as shown in SEQ ID NO: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12, which has endoreduplication promoting activity, a transgenic plant into which such gene has been introduced, thereby increasing the nuclear DNA content in the cells of such plant, and a method of using such gene to increase the size of the entire plant or a part thereof. | 2010-08-05 |
20100199388 | Transgenic Plants with Increased Stress Tolerance and Yield - Polynucleotides are disclosed which are capable of enhancing a growth, yield under water-limited conditions, and/or increased tolerance to an environmental stress of a plant transformed to contain such polynucleotides. Also provided are methods of using such polynucleotides and transgenic plants and agricultural products, including seeds, containing such polynucleotides as transgenes. | 2010-08-05 |
20100199389 | Targeted integration into the Zp15 locus - Disclosed herein are methods and compositions for targeted integration of an exogenous sequence into a plant Zp15 locus, for example, for expression of a polypeptide of interest. | 2010-08-05 |
20100199390 | Molecular Marker Associated With CMV Resistance And Use Thereof - The present invention relates to a cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) resistance-associated molecular marker and the use thereof, and more particularly to a nucleic acid consisting of nucleotide sequence having a very high association with the CMV-resistant character of plants, a primer comprising a partial nucleotide sequence of the nucleic acid, and a method for detecting CMV-resistant plants using the nucleic acid or the primer. The inventive molecular marker has advantages in that it can detect CMV-resistant plants in a rapid and precise manner without inoculating CMV directly into plants, and also can determine the genotype of CMV-resistant plants. | 2010-08-05 |
20100199391 | ANTI-MALARIA VACCINE COMPOSITIONS AND USES THEREOF - The present invention relates to a polypeptide in which: (i) the N-terminal sequence includes the polypeptide sequence of the GBSSI (Granule Bound Starch Synthase I) or a derivative or fragment thereof, wherein said polypeptide sequence can bind to starch; and (ii) the C-terminal sequence includes a polypeptide sequence coding for at least one epitope of an antigen from a parasite of the | 2010-08-05 |
20100199392 | Thin-Skinned Chile Pepper Variety - An improved Anaheim-type chile pepper cultivar having a fruit characterized by a relatively thin skin in comparison to other Anaheim-type chile pepper cultivars, such that mechanized peeling of fruit results in an average recovery, excluding skin, seed, and placenta, that is at least 5% higher in comparison to the peeling of an existing Anaheim-type chile pepper cultivar. The improved cultivar further is characterized by a mature seed content of less than 20 pounds per 1000 pounds of fruit and by fruit that is readily de-stemmed by mechanized de-stemming. | 2010-08-05 |
20100199393 | PROBE MICROSCOPE - A probe microscope includes a cantilever having a probe, a displacement detecting optical system, an observation optical system, an objective lens, and a parallel glass. The displacement detecting optical system includes a first light source and a light detecting element. The observation optical system includes a second light source, an image forming lens, and a camera. The objective lens is disposed between the cantilever and the first and second light sources, and is commonly used by the displacement detecting optical system and the observation optical system. The parallel glass is capable of being inserted and retracted freely between the cantilever and the objective lens to adjust a focal point of the objective lens. | 2010-08-05 |
20100199394 | MINI-FLORA ROSE PLANT NAMED 'BENSWISE' - The fragrant, magenta-rose colored flowers of his new invention are held nicely above the foliage, primarily in small clusters. The plant is of a medium size and upright growing habit and rarely seen without some color. | 2010-08-05 |

20100199397 | Poinsettia plant named 'LAZZPO1047' - A new and distinct Poinsettia ‘LAZZPO1047’ particularly described by combining features of optimum branching and uniformity of growth. Medium sized dark green foliage, medium strong growth, moderate to zero need for growth retardants depending on desired pot size and growth conditions. The bract is an intense red color, medium sized inflorescence, and does not hide all the leaves below so that there is a nice contrast between the red bract and some visible leaves. Slightly wavy petal along the mid riff. The border of some petals is slightly dark violet. Good cyathia. Middle, early flowering response for the beginning of the December market. Toward the end of cultivating, it can be grown at 15° C., optimum shelf life, perfect for “mass production”, easy to grow because of good branching abilities. | 2010-08-05 |
