The simulation engine calculates multiple scattering in simulated materials using a multipole expansion method, and is used to generate a look-up table of propagation properties for a range of probable structures and compositions. The measurements are then classified with respect to the look-up table. The simulation results that most closely fit the test measurements provide an assessment of the internal structure and constituent properties of the material.
