20150043798 | METHOD AND SYSTEM TO ASSIST 2D-3D IMAGE REGISTRATION - Embodiments of the invention provide a system and method that is able to automatically provide a starting point for 2D to 3D image registration, without relying on human recognition of features shown in the 2D image. This is achieved by pre-processing the 3D data to obtain synthetically generated 2D images of those parts of the 3D data volume which will be used for registration purposes. Many different synthetically generated 2D images of the or each part of the 3D volume are produced, each from a different possible viewing direction. Each of these synthetic images is then subject to a feature extraction process to extract characterising feature data of the registration feature shown in the images. Once the feature extraction has been undertaken for each image, when registration is to be performed the real-time 2D image is processed by applying each of the sets of extracted features thereto, to try and identify which set best matches the registration features in the 2D image. For example, where a generalised Hough transform was used in the feature extraction, the R tables would be applied to the 2D image to obtain respective accumulation images. The accumulation images may then be ranked to identify which registration feature is shown in the 2-D image, and from which view direction. This gives the required information of which registration feature is being shown in the 2D image, and also the in-plane location and orientation. This information can then be used as a starting point for the 2D to 3D registration procedure. | 2015-02-12 |

In various embodiments, the invention micro-structures the index of refraction in the core and surrounding areas of the inner cladding from the inner bend radius to the outer bend radius in a manner that compensates for the index changes that are otherwise induced in the index profile by the geometry and/or stresses to the fiber caused by the bending. Some embodiments of an apparatus and method include a fiber having a plurality of substantially parallel cores, the fiber including a straight section and a curved section; guiding signal light primarily in a second core in the straight section; guiding the signal light from the second core into a first core between the straight section and the curved section; and guiding the signal light primarily in the first core in the curved section. | 2015-02-12 |
20150043880 | METHODS FOR PRODUCING A SEMIFINISHED PART FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF AN OPTICAL FIBER WHICH IS OPTIMIZED IN TERMS OF BENDING - Methods for producing a semifinished part for the manufacture of an optical fiber are disclosed. The methods are optimized in terms of bending. The methods include the steps of providing a shell tube with a shell refractive index which is lower in relation to the light-conducting core. Then, at least one protective, intermediate and/or barrier layer is applied to a radially outermost and/or innermost tube surface of the respective shell tube, wherein a build-up of light-conducting layers is realized on the inner side and/or the outer side of the shell tube. Finally, the shell tubes are joined by collapsing so as to form the semifinished part. | 2015-02-12 |
20150043881 | ELECTRONIC DEVICE - There is provided an electronic device including a vibration portion which generates vibration, an optical connector to which an optical cable is connected, and a substrate on which the vibration portion and the optical connector are mounted. | 2015-02-12 |
20150043882 | FIBER OPTIC CABLE PACKAGING ARRANGMENT - A fiber optic enclosure assembly is disclosed herein. The assembly includes a fiber optic enclosure defining connection locations, a fiber optic cable extending from the connection locations of the fiber optic enclosure, and a covering defining a first axial end and a second axial end, the covering defining a throughhole extending from the first axial end to the second axial end, the throughhole extending along a central longitudinal axis of the covering, the covering defining a first cavity for receiving the fiber optic enclosure. A port extends from the first cavity to an outer surface of the covering, wherein the fiber optic cable extending from the connection locations can extend from the first cavity to the outer surface of the covering for wrapping around the outer surface of the covering. | 2015-02-12 |
