|Overlay transport virtualization - In one embodiment, an apparatus includes one or more internal interfaces in communication with one or more network devices in a first network site through a Layer 2 link, an overlay interface in communication through a Layer 3 link with a core network connected to one or more other network sites, and a table mapping addresses for network devices in the other network sites to addresses of edge devices in the same network site as the network device. The apparatus further includes a processor operable to encapsulate a packet received at one of the internal interfaces and destined for one of the network devices in the other network sites, with an IP header including a destination address of the edge device mapped to the destination network device, and forward the encapsulated packet to the core network.
|System and Method for SMS/IP Interoperability - Systems and methods for interoperability are disclosed which allow for a user of one network to communicate seamlessly with a user of another network. Users are provided seamless access to data services in different networks without having to subscribe to those networks. In one embodiment an application bridge comprising an application server may be used to service communications while a billing bridge may be provided to control and charge network subscribers. In one embodiment a user in a SMS domain may communicate with a user in an IP domain. In one embodiment, a platform may register with a federated interface of an IM domain to enable non-IM users to communicate with IM users.
|PROVIDING KIOSK SERVICE OFFERINGS IN A PERSONAL AREA NETWORK - A method for delivering electronic services in a personal area network (PAN) can include providing a kiosk in a publicly traversable area. The kiosk can be configured to deliver electronic services over short-range radio communications links to wireless devices in a personal area network (PAN). The kiosk also can be configured to communicate over an existing physical communications link medium. A PAN can be established in the publicly traversable area. Electronic services can be selectably retrieved through the existing physical communications link medium into the kiosk. Finally, the retrieved selected electronic services can be delivered to wireless devices in the PAN over the short-range radio communications link. Notably, the step of establishing a PAN in the publicly traversable area can include establishing a BLUETOOTH-based PAN with wireless devices in the publicly traversable area. In addition, the step of providing a kiosk first can include retrofitting an existing kiosk both with a short-range radio frequency communications system, and with a host computing device for selectively retrieving electronic services over the existing physical communications link medium, and for delivering selected electronic services to the wireless devices in the PAN. Second, the retrofitted kiosk can be activated in the publicly traversable area.
|Method and apparatus for remote initiation of ARINC 615 downloads - A method and apparatus for remotely downloading data from a selected one of a plurality of avionics line replaceable units (LRUs) on an aircraft. In one configuration, a method includes transmitting a message wirelessly to a receiver on the aircraft identifying an LRU having data to be downloaded; selectively switching a communication path from the identified LRU to an aircraft data services link (ADSL) dependent upon the identified LRU; and wirelessly downloading data from the identified LRU utilizing the selectively switched communication path.
|METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR IMPLEMENTING A MOBILE SERVER - Methods and apparatus are provided for transmitting data from remote server device to a computer module in a vehicle. A request for data is transmitted from the computer module over an in-vehicle network to an in-vehicle communications gateway module. The request for data from the computer module is destined for a remote server device. A request for a software component is transmitted from a standard port of the in-vehicle communications gateway module to the remote server device. The software component comprises a non-standard transfer protocol module. The in-vehicle communications gateway module loads the non-standard transfer protocol module, and the remote server device transmits the requested data to the in-vehicle communications gateway module according to the non-standard transfer protocol. The in-vehicle communications gateway module then transmits the requested data (provided from the remote server device) to the computer module over the in-vehicle network.
|METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR IMPLEMENTING A MOBILE SERVER - Methods and apparatus are provided for transmitting data between a client device and a vehicle. A server hosted at an in-vehicle communications gateway module sends a software component comprising a non-standard transfer protocol module to a browser application hosted at the client device in response to a request from the client device. Standard ports at the in-vehicle communications gateway module and the client device are closed, and data is exchanged between the server and the browser application according to the non-standard transfer protocol. Optionally, the received data can then be transmitted from the in-vehicle communications gateway module to a computer module in the vehicle.
|FEDERATED MULTIPROTOCOL COMMUNICATION - Methods, apparatus, and business techniques are disclosed for use in distributed communication systems comprising a plurality of communication protocols. In one embodiment a first air interface is used to initiate communication between a wireless client and a remote server at least partially using a first wireless access point. The server sends the wireless client a stub of a distributed object. The stub is used to instantiate an object class. The object class defines an interface that the remote client can use to communicate with the remote server using an upper layer interface. The distributed object stub also provides an implementation of a software radio configuration for a set of lower protocol layers in a second air interface. The wireless client can thereby communicate with a second wireless access point using said second air interface protocol. Exemplary embodiments of the present invention are disclosed that focus on toll-tag and electronic-commerce related highway systems, distributed federated wireless access systems, and wide area wireless system capacity augmentation.

|IMPLEMENTING CONDITIONAL PACKET ALTERATIONS BASED ON TRANSMIT PORT - A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided for implementing conditional packet alterations based upon a transmit port. A selection mechanism is provided for implementing packet alterations. A sequence of frame alteration instructions and transmit port numbers associated with a packet being transmitted is applied to the selection mechanism. The selection mechanism performs alterations on the packet being transmitted responsive to the applied sequence of frame alteration instructions and port numbers associated with the packet. The selection mechanism includes a multiplexer that sequentially receives frame alteration instructions and port numbers associated with a packet being transmitted, and an indirect data array for providing packet alteration data from the indirect data array.
|Sharing Assets Between UPnP Networks - Systems and computer program products for allowing a renderer in a UPnP network the capability of being able to render general Internet content of static or dynamic nature, which the renderer was not designed to render in the contents original data format and file type. The system queries all devices on the local network, queries specific remote servers over the Internet, and retrieves data feeds from remote sources. The queried and retrieved data that is not in a format and file type that can be rendered by the renderer is loaded into a template and turned into a format and file type acceptable by the renderer. The queried and retrieved data in the proper format and file type is organized in a custom format and made available for rendering to the renderer. The system has the capability of transmitting content or the metadata of the content within the devices on the local network to a hosting service over the Internet. Additionally, a second local network has the capability of accessing the content stored on the first local network.

|Delivering Multimedia Services - Disclosed is a scalable, hierarchical, distributed network architecture and processes for the delivery of high-performance, end-to-end online multimedia services, including Internet services such as World Wide Web access. The network architecture connects a high-speed private backbone to multiple network access points of the Internet, to a network operation center, to a back office system, and to multiple regional servers in regional data centers. Each of the regional servers connects to several caching servers in modified head-ends, which in turn connect via fiber optics to many neighborhood nodes. Finally, each node connects via coaxial cable to multiple end-user systems. The processes include those for replicating and caching frequently-accessed content, and multicasting content customized per region or locality.

|GLOBAL SERVER LOAD BALANCING - A global server load balancing (GSLB) switch serves as a proxy to an authoritative DNS communicates with numerous site switches which are coupled to host servers serving specific applications. The GSLB switch receives from site switches operational information regarding host servers within the site switches neighborhood. When a client program requests a resolution of a host name, the GSLB switch, acting as a proxy of an authoritative DNS, returns one or more ordered IP addresses for the host name. The IP addresses are ordered using metrics that include the information collected from the site switches. In one instance, the GSLB switch places the address that is deemed “best” at the top of the list.
|METHOD AND DEVICE FOR THE EXCHANGE OF DATA - A method and devices for the exchange of data between a client network access system and a provider network access system. A message is sent from the provider network access system to the client network access system. The message triggers a response containing information about the client network access system, the response being sent from the client network access system to the provider network access system. The message uses a multicast address in a destination MAC address field, which functions in such a way that messages addressed thereto are not forwarded by the client network access system, and the information relates to an Ethernet OAM function. If the message is an inquiry, for example, as to whether the Ethernet OAM function is supported by the client network access system, the provider network access system can automatically be adapted to the configuration of the client network access system.
|Large Scale Mobile Network Address Translation - A method and system for enabling a mobile station (MS) to transfer from one Network Address Translation (NAT) domain to another NAT domain. Dynamic rules created in the first NAT domain are transferred to the second NAT domain via a first Media Policy Routing function. A tunnel is created between the second NAT domain and the first MPR for transferring a MS session. A new session from the MS is created outside the tunnel and once the MS session times out, the MS session, the states existing in the first MPR and the second NAT domain utilizing a new set of dynamic NAT rules created in the second NAT domain are all removed. The electronic apparatus suppresses electric power to be consumed by the second communication unit, when the alternate communication apparatus is in an online state.

|NETWORK-TO-NETWORK BRIDGE - A network-to-network bridge is provided. In one embodiment, the network-to-network bridge is coupled between a main system and a subsystem system. The main system includes a slot to couple with the subsystem, wherein the slot complies with the PCIe standard. |Method of Communicating Between Multiple Digital Living Network Alliance Networks - A method of extending a network utilizing the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) protocol includes providing a first DLNA network being a local area network (LAN) conforming to the DLNA protocol and a second DLNA network being a LAN conforming to the DLNA protocol.
